User Similarity

How similar are you to another user? Ever wanted an inexact answer? I was going to present the top 10 most similar and top 10 least similar staff members, but there is a cluster of contribs that are highly similar each to the other (looking at you ExplosiveOranges,TalonsOnFire,ComeToDaddy,Insurrection,Hogan900) and for most dissimilar, theacademy is uncorrelated to pretty much all the staff members. Instead, this could be interactive. Name two users that you want to see compared. Data comes from the ratings of all staff/contrib/emeritus rated albums (7830 albums scraped on March 20th). An example is below. I’ll provide the percent of common albums (albums that both users have rated among this dataset between users) and the pearson correlation coefficient (if you don’t know what correlations are, read this http://www.surveysystem.com/correlation.htm or something, I guess) of the ratings of those albums. An example is below.

How to read the previous table:

These tables add context to the data I gave for the pairs. An example of an interpretion: Kill and sonic had 29.4% common albums meaning they are somewhere above the 99% percentile on that metric meaning their percentage was more than 99% of user pairings, and their correlation of .85 puts them somewhere between the 95% and 99% percentile meaning that they had a correlation that was greater than somewhere between 95% to 99% of users. If you take those measures to be indicative of similarity, then both users are related.
