01.12.12 | @NeutralThunder12: Already have those :) + Jazz-Fusion metal (though I guess some real jazz-fusion doesn't hurt either). |
Yazz_Flute
01.12.12 | Most of these I wouldn't really consider jazzy beyond lablers wanting to throw the term on to make their music sound more intelligent.
You need to check out Farmakon - A Warm Glimpse. It's like Opeth with jazz/funk interludes. |
Hyperion1001
01.12.12 | its funny because cynic isnt anywhere close to jazz-fusion |
Evreaia
01.12.12 | @Yazz-Flute: Well I just googled those, don't really know how jazzy theye are. :) |
Eclecticist

Evreaia
01.12.12 | @Hyperion1001: Well whatever genre bands like Cynic, Obscura or Atheist play then. They all have a pretty similar sound to them (as wel as being labelled Jazz-fusion).
@greg84: I've seen them mentioned, but I already have all their albums and love them. :) |
Jethro42
01.12.12 | Planet X
Panzerballett
There are no trace of metal in Mahavishnu Orchestra, Al Di Meola or Return to Forever, but you might enjoy ir anyway. |

pedro70512
01.12.12 | Intronaut [3] - Valley of Smoke is the most, uh, jazzy. Try "Core Relations".
Gospel - The Moon Is a Dead World - It's not really jazz, but uses a lot of the syncopation, extended chords, and really freaky cool drumming that Atheist and Intronaut have.
Opeth does some of that on Damnation, except they forgot the metal part.
"its funny because cynic isnt anywhere close to jazz-fusion" lolwut? |
Jethro42
01.12.12 | oops I missread, my bad. |
Hyperion1001
01.12.12 | weird time signaturel =/= jazz-fusion
i assume you've never actually heard jazz-fusion before? |
pedro70512
01.12.12 | Oh and Giant Squid, duh. Check out "Snakehead" from their new album. |
pedro70512
01.12.12 | Weird time signatures happen in most every genre. The "jazz" comes from the way a band uses chordal structures, modality, and rhythm. Take a look at Magma -- they're most definitely jazz fusion based on Vander's drumming and Jannick Topp's bass lines. But if you played it side by side with Cynic, there's almost no overlap. I agree that Cynic isn't the most jazzy of the crossover bands, but they laid down some ideas on Focus that were as close to Jazz as metal had yet gotten, and other bands ran with it from there. It's like calling At the Gates metalcore. No, they really weren't, but they laid the foundation for it. |

Hyperion1001
01.12.12 | but even the chord structures and modes in cynic barely if at all resemble how jazz and jazz-fusion is structured and played |

01.12.12 | Gotcha! You're so right, Magma is really not the easiest band to review. |
pedro70512
01.12.12 | Yeah I feel like I might need about three introductory paragraphs just to give an idea of what the
hell the band is all about, which is definite tl;dr territory. We shall see. |
