My Bamboozle 2012
These are the bands I stumbled upon, or went out of my way to see this past weekend at Bamboozle 2012. |
| 1 | | The Receiving End of Sirens Between the Heart and the Synapse
I got to Asbury Park a bit late, but just in time to see TREOS play (thank god). I missed some of the opening acts I wanted to see, like Bad Case of Big Mouth, David Garibaldi and OCD: Moosh & Twist; but TREOS was absolutely one of the best of the weekend. It was my first, and probably last time seeing them, but I can't complain. |
| 2 | | Stray From the Path Rising Sun
Stray from the Path is a band from my county, and I dig them, so I had to go and support LI by catching at least a song by them. Their set intertwined with TREOS, so I only caught the last two songs, "Mad Girl" and "Damien", but they did a pretty good job. |
| 3 | | Armor for Sleep What To Do When You Are Dead
This is what I was looking forward to for the most part. I never got to see Armor For Sleep while I was growing up with them, so it was cool to see them play some of my childhood songs, especially so well after being gone for 3 years. They weren't the greatest band on the lineup, but the sentimental value of this set definitely boosted them up to one of my favorite sets. |
| 4 | | D.A. the Future Album
I was walking past the Yuzoo Break stage after AFS and stumbled upon this very weird, awesome band. They fused elements of jazz, soul and hip-hop in a very upbeat style. Definitely want to see a full length come out by these guys. |
| 5 | | Skrillex Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites
Love or Hate the music, there's no denying that Skrillex can put on a show. The bass was heavy, the lights were huge and Skrillex came out on a Star Wars styled mount for his turntable and other tools. Was really entertained by his show, wouldn't mind seeing him again. |
| 6 | | The Wonder Years Suburbia: I've Given You All and Now I'm Nothing
I couldn't really hear these guys since Skrillex's stage wasn't too far away, and was extremely loud. But from what I heard and saw of The Wonder Year's set, they were energetic as hell and not letting Skrillex take all the fame that night. Their set really made me want to see a real deal headliner show by them. |
| 7 | | Motion City Soundtrack Commit This To Memory
I got in late again on Saturday evening because I met up with some friends which delayed about two hours for me. As soon as I got in, I rushed to the Zumiez stage to catch Motion City Soundtrack play, and they were terrific. Justin Pierre, for such a cynical guy, has such an excited and fun stage presence. They played some of my favorite songs, it's too bad I didn't catch their second set. |
| 8 | | Sailesh the Uncensored Hypnotist
We had a bit of time to kill before the next act we wanted to see came on, and we saw this guy last year. He puts on a pretty comical and entertaining show, although last year's crowd participants were definitely a better catch, this year's were kind of dead or embarrassed. |
| 9 | | The All-American Rejects Move Along
We went and caught a few songs by these guys on the main stage, they sounded pretty much exactly like they do on album. I'm not a giant fan of these guys past "Move Along" (hell, even then I'm not huge on them) but I've gotta give them that they really know how to work a crowd in a positive manner. They don't need any raunchiness or bullshit speeches on how they were the "craziest show they'd ever played", they were just themselves and played music they love. I dug it very much. |
| 10 | | Jimmy Eat World Bleed American
I haven't seen these guys in four years now, and they were just as great as last time. They played some of my favorites like "Sweetness", "My Best Theory" and "Lucky Denver Mint". Wish they weren't playing at the same time as Boysetsfire so I could have seen their whole set. |
| 11 | | Boysetsfire After the Eulogy
Holy shit, these guys were so overwhelming, even though they had no more than 300 of the 40,000 people attending the festival at their stage. The lead singer came out and immediately went fucking wild. Definitely one of the best sets, and hands down the most underrated band at Bamboozle. |
| 12 | | Protector Album
Tried to get into The Dear Hunter show at the Paramount but it was pretty much packed (why they put one of the best bands on the lineup in the smallest area is beyond me) so I headed to the Protector set early. Protector is the lead singer from metal band Ultrageist's DJ project. His light show was killer and so were his jams. Definitely can't wait to see him release stuff. |
| 13 | | My Chemical Romance Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
I went and watched the end of MCR's set before going to ASAP Rocky. I've seen them before, and they're pretty tight live, I'm just not a big fan of their recent stuff, so I wish I saw them play a few older tunes. |
| 14 | | ASAP Rocky Live.Love.A$AP.
They were pretty tight live. A lot better than I had seen on their Coachella live stream. ASAP isn't the best MC, but I loved the presentation and love for hip-hop the ASAP crew showed on the Beach Party Stage. |
| 15 | | Less Than Jake Losing Streak
I went to grab some food and sat down in the grass by the Zumiez stage and listened to half of Less Than Jake's set. They were phenomenal, and such funny guys too. Wish they played a different time so I didn't have to rush to Foo Fighters and miss their second half of the set. |
| 16 | | Foo Fighters Wasting Light
Dave Grohl is the fucking man, and so is Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear and Rami Jaffee. Enough said. |
| 17 | | Hot Water Music Caution
I had the pleasure of meeting these guys a few hours before they killed it on the Zumiez stage. I fucking love Chuck Ragan's voice, it was so cool finally seeing these guys, never thought I would have. |
| 18 | | The Story So Far Under Soil and Dirt
Was trying to see these guys all weekend, came on time for once on Sunday and finally did. Awesome. |
| 19 | | Sons of Origin Album
My friend's band that played Sunday. I didn't initially know they were my friend's band, but I checked them out and really liked them and he later told me he knew the guy. Best of luck to these dudes. |
| 20 | | Political Party Crashers Album
I secretly like Ska, and these guys are making me secretly love ska. |
| 21 | | Mazmyth Album |
| 22 | | Bayside Bayside |
| 23 | | Xombie Album |
| 24 | | Obey the Brave Ups and Downs |
| 25 | | Buckcherry Fifteen
I've gotten lazy and didn't know what to write for the past few, but all I've got to say is I think Josh Todd is a prick. |
| 26 | | Comeback Kid Wake the Dead |
| 27 | | The Gaslight Anthem American Slang
SECOND BEST SET EVER |
| 28 | | Brand New The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
BEST SET EVER |
| 29 | | Alesana The Emptiness
Caught like one minute of the last song, that counts right? |
| 30 | | Bon Jovi Slippery When Wet |
| 31 | | Band Album |
| 32 | | Band Album |
| 33 | | Band Album |
| 34 | | Band Album |
| 35 | | Band Album |
