Albums Of 2012
My final list for 2012. Still got stuff to check out but I think if it was gonna be good enough to rbreak my list I'd've heard it by now, and 126 albums is probably enough for one year. |
| 20 | | Gaza No Absolutes In Human Suffering
So aggressive, exactly what I need when I have a bad day and want to listen to
something to wall-breakingly angry that it makes my ears bleed, and other peoples'
faces. |
| 19 | | Katatonia Dead End Kings
This album is gonna be a big help in trying to get Katatonia out of Opeth's shadow. |
| 18 | | Black Breath Sentenced To Life
Was an early contender for AOTY but admittedly has slipped down. Mother Abyss is
still one of my tracks of 2012. |
| 17 | | Testament Dark Roots of Earth
Old School Thrash. And Gene Hoglan. That is all. |
| 16 | | Coheed and Cambria The Afterman: Ascension
Yeah a late addition but I'm surprised at how much I like it. |
| 15 | | Bleeding Oath Bleeding Oath
Only 2 songs but harks back to early Opeth which is good enough for me. Now fuck
off Bleeding Oath. |
| 14 | | Feed the Rhino The Burning Sons
Kent hardcore mob gets more freedom for second album and release one hell of a
noise. |
| 13 | | Architects Daybreaker
Rightful successor to Hollow Crown. |
| 12 | | Eths III
Unfortunately Candice has left the band, just as they looked like they were gonna
break out of France. Abandoning the nu metal for a more groove/metalcore oriented
sound paid off. |
| 11 | | Dethklok Dethalbum III
DIE FOR DETHKLOK!! Although humour has been left behind somewhat it's a big
musical progression. |
| 10 | | Napalm Death Utilitarian
They won't rest on their laurels and continue to find new elements to add to their
sound including clean choruses (The Wolf I Feed) and a guest appearance by one
John Zorn in Everyday Pox. |
| 9 | | Periphery Periphery II: This Time It's Personal
Djenty but more restrained than Periphery I was, and I think this helps it. Their first album never really clicked with me. |
| 8 | | Gojira L'Enfant Sauvage
I can't think of a single thing wrong with this album, but at the same time it's not
perfect, there's just something missing that stops it being higher in the list. |
| 7 | | Deftones Koi No Yokan
Deftones. That is all. |
| 6 | | While She Sleeps This Is The Six
Excellent riffs, good breakdowns, not generic as fuck metalcore. This is metallic
hardcore as it should be. Note: It's just a coincidence this is #6. |
| 5 | | Meshuggah Koloss
IT'S FUCKING MESHUGGAH. |
| 4 | | Soulfly Enslaved
Screw you guys Max Cavalera is my idol and this is by far the best album he's made
with Soulfly since Dark Ages, best in general since Inflikted. |
| 3 | | Alcest Les Voyages De L Ame
Atmosphere, beauty, melancholy, it's a wonderful album. |
| 2 | | Woods of Ypres Woods V: Grey Skies & Electric Light
It's just such a great album to wind down to. Such a loss when David Gold died last
December. |
| 1 | | The Devin Townsend Project Epicloud
Culmination of almost everything Devy's done down the years. Pretty much the
definitive Devin Townsend album and almost perfect. |
