Should Artists "surprise Release" Albums More Often?

Kid Cudi just recently released a surprise album a few days ago, and this got me thinking about the possible benefits of releasing an album without any prior notice about it. As we all know, Death Grips did the same thing last year as well as Beyonce. In my personal opinion, this can be risky for the artist cause it doesn't give them any time to build buzz, thus less sales (assuming they care about sales to an extent), but very good for the fans, cause well first of all, they get an album from what could be their favorite artist of course, and second there's no anticipation thus they can't be disappointed if it doesn't live up to the hype. So what do you guys think about artists doing this? Should they? or should they stick with setting a release date, and telling all their fans before hand?
