jsaf7: Should Artists "surprise Release" Albums More Often?

Onirium 02.28.14	Well, it certainly is great for artists who don't seek to make as much sales as possible. However, labels probably don't want that to happen too often, for obvious marketing reasons. But yes, I think it is an interesting way to release music and that artists should do this more often.
someguest 02.28.14	It should probably only be done when the artist is believed to be at peak popularity. Any other time the build-up to a release creates significant excitement and anticipation.

ExcentrifugalForz 02.28.14	When only done rarely a surprise release generates its own kind of buzz. Maybe even garner a record more publicity than if it had a release date. But the novelty of that kind of marketing strategy will wear off very quickly.

Yeah, Godspeed You! Black Emperor announced Allelujah two weeks before its release.

jsaf7 02.28.14	lol, i didn't even know lil kim released a new album, probably was buried from all the buzz Beyonces album was getting, guess you really do have to be at the peak of your career for a surprise release to pay off... of course there are exceptions like in Death Grips' case, where they don't have a ginormous amount of fans like Beyonce, but the fans they do have are very heavy into them, so the word about their new album spread really fast..
