Top 10 Of 2005

Not a very good year, worse than 2006 to be honest.
1Broken Social Scene
Broken Social Scene

It's sad that this is my number one, because it's my least favorite of their albums. Nothing against this album, it's very solid, and it deserves this spot. I'm just stunned there wasn't much else in 2005.
Gimme Fiction

Underrated album, often referred to as their "sellout" album, because of "Turn My Camera On." I like it for "I Summon You," primarily, and the fact that Spoon is always consistent.
3Sufjan Stevens

He's a fruity guy, but his music is very good and very accessible. I like the horn sections, and especially enjoy "Chicago." I'll pass on his live show, where he busts out his gay wings.
4Queens of the Stone Age
Lullabies to Paralyze

Another underrated album, many felt it was too somber and didn't yield enough "No One Knows" like songs. "Tangled in Plaid" and "In My Head" are still great songs, and the last good album by the Queens.
Catch Without Arms

I'm torn on this band so much. Their first album is incredible, I loathe their second, and this is a decent effort. But they seem very inconsistent. Live though, they are great. "Ode to the Sun" is one of their best songs.
Say Hello to Sunshine

Not many have heard of this band but they're very good, or at least used to be. The aggressiveness of this album turned off many, because their previous one was an even blend punk and hardcore, whereas this is more hardcore than anything they've done. It's also better than their debut.
7The White Stripes
Get Behind Me Satan

Even at their worst, the White Stripes are better than most. "White Moon" is heart wrenching for some reason, especially after seeing their documentary.

Though I'm irritated by their constant CS Lewis references, I'm a sucker for their energy. A complex album to be fair, it's their last great effort before they went the route of stupidity.
9Apollo Sunshine
Apollo Sunshine

Their best album by far, this band appears on the surface as merely a Beatles rip off, but they've held their won and have a great live show.
10The New Pornographers
Twin Cinema

My favorite of theirs, as I'm not much of a fan of their work to be honest. This one has a lot of great moments.
