Q2 2015
Albums that I came into contact with between April-June. I think a few may have dropped prior to April though, but didn't listen to it until just recently. Feel free to toss out any recs. |
1 | | Jim O'Rourke Simple Songs
I gave this a spin based on a recommendation from a friend. Very surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Contender for AOTY. |
2 | | Titus Andronicus The Most Lamentable Tragedy
This is a behemoth. Just truly a tough album to digest but once you are able to get into it, its highly rewarding. |
3 | | Speedy Ortiz Foil Deer
Sadie Dupuis lyrics have gotten better since their last album. Favorite track is The Graduatues (which may be my SOTY). Excellent follow up. |
4 | | Westkust Last Forever
Wonderfully shoegazey. Definitely for those who like the 90s shoegaze revival we're having. |
5 | | 93MillionMilesFromTheSun Fall Into Nothing
Picked this up on bandcamp. Another great shoegaze album. |
6 | | No Joy More Faithful
What can I say, I'm a shoegaze junkie. |
7 | | Hop Along Painted Shut
Left field album for me, someone described it to me as similar to Sharon Van Etten, which I don't see at all. Still though, it was a nice surprise. |
8 | | Jenny Hval Apocalypse, girl
Soft dick rock. |
9 | | Bully Feels Like
Someone said it was like the Japandroids, which I disagree with. Still a fun rock record. |
10 | | the i.l.y's I've always been good at true love
I don't really like Death Grips, but this was a nice surprise. Reminds me of DFA1979 |
11 | | Marriages Salome
Post rocky/shoegaze. |
12 | | Young Fathers White Men Are Black Men Too
Sounds very TV on the Radioey. |
13 | | Metz Metz II
Decent follow up. Not as big on this as their debut though. |
14 | | Built to Spill Untethered Moon
I'd nearly written this band off. But this was much better than I was expecting. |
15 | | Pyramids A Northern Meadow
This was released in March but I didn't get to it until like May. Excellent stuff. |
16 | | Mikal Cronin MCIII
His sugary guitar pop is becoming less enjoyable, but there's still some good tracks to pull from this. |
17 | | Torres Sprinter
I loved her debut album quite a bit, but this was a bit of a task to get into. I still like it, but it pales in comparison to the debut. |
18 | | Unknown Mortal Orchestra Multi-Love
A mixed bag but enough great tracks like Puzzles to keep me listening. |
19 | | Sun Kil Moon Universal Themes
I actually liked this more than Benji. Steve Shelly's presence definitely helps. |
20 | | The Tallest Man on Earth Dark Bird Is Home
He becomes decreasingly mediocre with each album, but i still enjoyed this. It's not on the level of Shallow Grave or The Wild Hunt, but it's still a decent listen. |
