Not "evil" dark, but sad dark. Also, I wouldn't mind some

City of Caterpillar
The whole album feels claustrophobic, paranoid, and lonely. The
instrumental build up and descend in "Minute-Hour-Day-Month-Year" is
particularly dark sounding.
I really wish Burst Apart were more like this.
Watching From A Distance
The album is depressing as hell. The artwork alone should give a pretty
good indication of that.
Some of the bleakest lyrics around, made even sadder by Curtis'
It's hard not to include an album that features songs about cancer,
schizophrenia, and a drive-by shooting.
"Sleep Patterns" is easily one of the most depressing songs in my library.

The Lack Long After
"It seems we all get sick, we all die in some no name hospital with the
same colored walls, and I guess that's fine."
|I love Hospice, but it isn't "dark" at all. I'd go as far as to say it's somewhat uplifting and inspiring on tracks like Two (which ironically is one of the saddest songs on the LP) and Wake. Defiantly a beautiful album though. At least we can agree that Burst Apart was a huge disappointment. |
As for dark, depressing albums I'd suggest "Down Colorful Hill" by Red House Painters and "Songs About Leaving" by Carissa's Wierd. All of Dan Barrett's projects (Have a Nice Life, Nahvalr, and Giles Corey) have been recorded by him during different stages of his depression, I wish I could recall when all of them occurred. I know Deathconsciousness (by Have a Nice Life) was recorded around the time of his father's death but that's it, if you want to know for yourself he speaks about sometime in this video http://enemieslist.net/mew.mov.
