Saw Circle Takes The Square Live

Regarding support bands, Pariso opened nicely and got everyone in the mood, Full of Hell were absolutely mental and outright brutal and Code Orange Kids nailed it completely
1Circle Takes the Square
As the Roots Undo

A Crater to Cough In - Great opener, the slow build at the start really got everyone pumped. The rest of it was utter chaos, and whilst the crowd reaction wasn't as intense as it got later, it was a total blast. However, in the context of what happened later, it felt more like a warm-up than a highlight.
2Circle Takes the Square
Rites of Initiation

Enter By the Narrow Gates - This is a pretty immersive song on tape, and the mysterious vibe translated amazingly live; no-one went crazy, we just stood and got taken away by it. Utterly mesmerising
3Circle Takes the Square
Rites of Initiation

Spirit Narrative - The speed and aggression came back here big time, and it paid off. By now most people were really getting into it
4Circle Takes the Square
Rites of Initiation

Way of Ever-Branching Paths - I admit that I wasn't sure that I wanted to hear more Rites/Decompositions stuff by this time. That didn't last long. This was intense and just got better and better; the manic bit in the middle was ridiculous and the clean break was beyond belief, plus the ending was heavy as fuck
5Circle Takes the Square
Rites of Initiation

The Ancestral Other Side - This was just as awesome as it is on record, but it came across as louder and fiercer
6Circle Takes the Square
As the Roots Undo

Crowquill - This was intense. The band really got into it and the first mosh started pretty quickly. Everyone was screaming along in the bridge ("Gravity didn't grant me the privilege of failure...") and at the end we belted out "our voices in harmony..." like there was no tomorrow
7Circle Takes the Square
As the Roots Undo

In the Nervous Light of Sunday - This followed on from Crowquill perfectly and was even more intense. The energy in the more aggressive parts was unbelievable and the mantra of IN THE NERVOUS LIGHT at the end was huge. A definite highlight.
8 Circle Takes the Square
Decompositions Volume 1

Prefaced by the Signal Fires - The energy of In the Nervous Light didn't quite carry on at the same level, although this was still excellent. The outro in particular was very heavy and got a great reaction. Afterwards they announced "two more songs" and ploughed into...

As the Roots Undo

Kill the Switch - Wow. This was just something else. Everyone was screaming along, the aggression and emotion came across in spades and the "I know it's all been done before" section was a marvel. I can't express how glad I am that they played this
10Circle Takes the Square
As the Roots Undo

Same Shade of Concrete - I thought that they might close with North Star, which would have been cool, but this was better. Everyone knew the words, which was really cool, and during the 'wade' section, I locked eyes with Drew and belted it with him. The rest was crazy and it was over all too soon
11Bjork
Debut

Afterwards I got to meet Drew and Kathy, which was awesome; they seemed like really cool people, and they were so chilled that it was hard to believe that they had been screaming their lungs out about depression and catharsis 5 minutes ago. It was an absolutely amazing experience and I'm so glad I could make it
