01.10.13 | Sowing Season from Brand News's album "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" is my personal favorite example of this phenomenon. |
Mookid
01.10.13 | It annoys me when idiots won't stop blabbering about Rest, yes |
evilford
01.10.13 | 4 is a tough call, all the songs rule really.
8 is close, I think Raze the Stray is de best there
agreed w/ 9, but that whole album rules too |
johnnydeking29
01.10.13 | Never really loved Sowing Season as much as everyone else tbh, it's one of the weakest imo
Raze and the t/t are both contenders, but Lost is the winner for me; these albums are all solid, but it's still annoying that the best track is the first you hear |
Sheaiskl
01.10.13 | sowing season definitely not as good as limousine surely?
I'd say never meant by american football is an example |
Mookid
01.10.13 | def Never Meant. That album has some pretty good songs other than the first track, though. |
JamieTwort
01.10.13 | 4 is a tough call, all the songs rule really.[2] |
johnnydeking29
01.10.13 | Limousine, You Won't Know, Degausser, Not the Sun and the Archers' Bows Have Broken are way better than Sowing Season |
fish.
01.10.13 | I hate that so much. I have lots of examples, can't be bothered to type them all.
Only Shallow by My Bloody Valentine is one. Myth by Beach House is one of the best examples for me. Amazing song, top 3 songs of the year. Rest of the album is boring as fuck
"Sowing Season from Brand News's album "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" is my personal favorite example of this phenomenon."
Sowing Season is less than average in the context of the whole album |
Sheaiskl
01.10.13 | "Limousine, You Won't Know, Degausser, Not the Sun and the Archers' Bows Have Broken are way better than Sowing
Season"
agreed, although I do like Sowing Season's place in the album as an opener. It's not a particularly special song but it's
one that I won't get bored of. |
Tikicobra
01.10.13 | I would definitely have to say Myth by Beach House is leagues better than everything else on Bloom. |
Spare
01.10.13 | this is usually only the case when you haven't listened to an album enough/when it's a terrible album in the first place |
CK
01.10.13 | Agree with 6 and 4. 9 is great but it definitely wasn't a true highlight on that album. |
Emyay
01.10.13 | the first song on in mourning's latest is way better than the rest |
johnnydeking29
01.10.13 | What's your highlight of Still Life? |
SpiritCrusher2
01.10.13 | agreed with 2
and with this too: "the first song on in mourning's latest is way better than the rest"
entombed - left hand path |
Emyay
01.10.13 | i agree with 7. i never really liked that album much but that song was my jam. highlight of still life is tough. the moor is great but so is everything else. i don't think its fair to put that here
|
lucazade22
01.10.13 | Pinball Map! |
johnnydeking29
01.10.13 | Pinball Map is great, but Bullet Ride is easily the best song on Clayman |
demon of surveillance
01.10.13 | At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
The title track is the only song that stands up to Blinded By Fear. |
johnnydeking29
01.10.13 | Cold, Unto Others, the t/t, Need and Under a Serpent Sun all match Blinded By Fear |
YoYoMancuso
01.10.13 | Live-The Dam At Otter Creek
Porcupine Tree-Even Less
Acid Bath-The Blue
Kyuss-Gardenia
Modest Mouse-Teeth Like God's Shoeshine |
Yazz_Flute
01.10.13 | I actually think Clayman is the most consistent In Flames album in terms of quality...though Bullet Ride is admittedly my favorite along with Only For the Weak. |
johnnydeking29
01.10.13 | TJR is more consistent imo |
ProjectFreak
01.10.13 | i think SILAYD gets way better after the first track...also, while Sowing Season might be the best song on TDAG, the rest of the album is pretty close, i wouldn't say there's that big a gap in quality.
i'd add Underoath - When the Sun Sleeps to this list
|
slipnslide
01.10.13 | live-the dam at otter creek [2]

01.10.13 | "Sowing Season from Brand News's album "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" is my personal favorite example of this phenomenon."

IMZA1793
01.10.13 | The Moments In Between - The Reign Of kindo
The Leper Affinity - Opeth |
FearThyEvil9
01.10.13 | All these rule but I agree with the guy above me for Leper Affinity. |
MeatSalad
01.10.13 | radiohead - everything in it's right place |
johnnydeking29
01.10.13 | ^NO, most overrated song ever
"Damn #2 but what about rebellion and wake up and crown of love and in the backseat"
I love all of those apart from Crown of Love (especially ITB), but Tunnels is still my fave |
ProjectFreak
01.10.13 | "The Moments In Between - The Reign Of kindo"
HEY NOW. there are plenty of great songs on that album. |
ProjectFreak
01.10.13 | also, while we're not considering intro tracks, The World At Large -- Modest Mouse |
andcas
01.10.13 | everything on 3 is fucking amazing. one of the best post-hardcore albums of the last decade. |
Apollo
01.10.13 | 9 is dead wrong
Serenity Painted Death might be the best song Opeth has ever written |
andcas
01.10.13 | hey apollobro |
IMZA1793
01.10.13 | ""The Moments In Between - The Reign Of kindo"
HEY NOW. there are plenty of great songs on that album."
Never said there were no great songs beyond the opener (especially Great blue Sea), but the The Moments In Between is the best song imo. |
ProjectFreak
01.10.13 | "everything on 3 is fucking amazing. one of the best post-hardcore albums of the last decade."
wrong on both counts. album is good but far from amazing...I only really remember three tracks. |
demigod93
01.10.13 | Dark Horse |
YoYoMancuso
01.10.13 | Pixies-Bone Machine |
baldymort
01.10.13 | 7 and 9 are incredible albums imo |
Emyay
01.11.13 | Whoever said Porcupine Tree - Even Less
sooo wrong |
SaneTBP
01.11.13 | 2 is one of the best songs ever yess
Still Life is really consistant, wouldn't say that The Moor is the greatest song but each to their own
|
JamieTwort
01.11.13 | Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick ;) |
FromDaHood
01.11.13 | 2 is wrong, but those who said Teeth Like God's Shoeshine and Myth are both correct |
Jethro42
01.11.13 | Spocks Beard - The Light |
SpiritCrusher2
01.11.13 | srsly, Entombed - Left Hand Path is the most obvious example of this |
JamieTwort
01.11.13 | Nucleus - Song For The Bearded Lady
The rest of the album rules too but that song is definitely the highlight. |
Insurrection
01.11.13 | Dismember - Like an Everflowing Stream, Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger |
SpiritCrusher2
01.11.13 | Architects - Early Grave, Amia Venera Landscape - Empire, Annihilator - Fun Palace, Converge - Saddest Day, Slayer - Disciple............ Edge of Sanity - Crimson? |
johnnydeking29
01.11.13 | Ahahaha, Crimson is cheating |
Dreamflight
01.11.13 | Agree hard with 9
Neurosis - Given to the rising would be a valid choice imo.
|
johnnydeking29
01.11.13 | Haven't heart GttR yet (I'm working through chronologically and am on ToG atm) |
DominionMM1
01.11.13 | "Neurosis - Given to the rising would be a valid choice imo."
nah. at the end of the road and water is not enough are as good as the t/t.
|
johnnydeking29
01.11.13 | If it wasn't for Sterile Vision, Souls at Zero would be another example |
Dreamflight
01.11.13 | "Haven't heart GttR yet (I'm working through chronologically and am on ToG atm)"
I should have done that, and I even started with Souls.
DominionMM1: Those two are great as well, but the only one that comes close to t/t to me is actually To the Wind.
|
Chortles
01.11.13 | Kingston wall - II so hard |
johnnydeking29
01.11.13 | "I should have done that, and I even started with Souls."
Ah, where did you go after Souls? |
Dreamflight
01.11.13 | All the way to GttR (cheap deal in Amazon), and then back to TSiB. |
BigBlob
01.11.13 | Mezzanine - Massive Attack. |
JamieTwort
01.11.13 | "Annihilator - Fun Palace"
I disagree, the whole album rules. Title track and Phantasmagoria are easily on a level with The Fun Palace imo. |
johnnydeking29
01.11.13 | Woah, so starting (in terms of first 3) from everywhere at once...crazy |
andcas
01.11.13 | "wrong on both counts. album is good but far from amazing...I only really remember three tracks."
sucks you don't have anything tied to the album. |
angrypittsburghdad1
01.11.13 | Totally disagree with 4, One Twenty Seven is better, it's my favorite song on the album. |
johnnydeking29
01.12.13 | ^that, Admission: Regret and Wake, Dead Man, Wake all rule face, but the first track is still best imo (opinion might change) |
CrownOfMagnets
01.12.13 | smashing pumpkins- quasar (from the new album)
foo fighters- the pretender |
SaneTBP
01.12.13 | Shiina Ringo - Shuukyou
I mean the whole thing is a 5, but the opener.. fuk |
pbass0
01.17.13 | foo fighters- the pretender [2] |
facupm
02.01.13 | Heathen - Victims of Deception - Hypnotized (although the rest rule hard, nothing can compare to opener) |
facupm
02.01.13 | and 4 is out of place here, it's a constant kick ass thing |
demigod93
02.01.13 | Dopesmoker |
facupm
02.01.13 | and the Moor is Opeht best song so of course is better than the rest of the album |
