| More like LINESburn, Ohio: it's '80s time ROCK YEA
Oft-maligned decade, even by me -- which is weird because heaps of my favorite bands emerged from the epoch but also I'm hugely bored at work so i'm continuing my motif please love me | 1 | | Cecil Taylor One Too Many Salty Swift And Not Goodbye
1980. Free Jazz par excellence. Rivalled only by | 2 | | Talking Heads Remain in Light
personally i adored David Byrnes cameo on Joanna Newsom's new album... some of his strongest work | 3 | | Grace Jones Nightclubbing
1981. Epochal in so many ways, the opus of androgyny, infinitely better than actual nightclubbing. An exercise in accessibility and pop nous failing to obtrude a lingering sense of disquiet, which isn't to say you can't groove out to it because, I mean, it's Grace Jones. | 4 | | Wolf Vostell Dé-Coll/age Musik
1982. I've used this joke before but: more like decolletage music bc this album is the tits. Musique Concrete. | 5 | | Sonic Youth Confusion is Sex/Kill Yr Idols
1983. My favourite Sonic Youth and I look very dashing in the t-shirt too, the debonair hipster you can take home to meet your parents!!!! | 6 | | The Smiths The Smiths
1984. I think it resonates because I too am a Queer Icon. Bookended by two of the best ballads of the century. | 7 | | Kaija Saariaho A Portrait of Kaija Saariaho
1985. I am a parvenu and dullard who can't talk about classical music but I like the evocative sounds i guess, and the way the steely scandanavian iciness is juxtaposed against lush soundscapes? Probably Havey's real mum. | 8 | | Arthur Russell World of Echo
1986. Haveing a thicke, creamey weep to this is the closest you'll get to God. There is no other. ALTHOUGH Color of Spring was released this same year and it is the second-best Talk Talk soooooo | 9 | | Pixies Come On Pilgrim
1987. tfw you'll never cum on a pilgrim :'(. EP; my LP of choice would be | 10 | | Yasuaki Shimizu Music for Commercials
this proto-vaporwave compendium of jingles; like J Dilla's Donuts for those into a s s t h e t i c | 11 | | Pixies Surfer Rosa
1988. Two of my favourite bands release | 12 | | Sonic Youth Daydream Nation
their respective capital-s Statements; noise drips from every wall in hip neighbourhoods. ROCK N ROLL BABEY HELL YEA *spanks own ass while walking away lasciviously, leaving my boss to clutch his head in his hands and wonder why he agreed to a 3-year contract* | 13 | | Henning Christiansen Abschiedssymphonie
Oh and you should listen to this too it's so fucking beautiful you won't regret it... 30 days satisfaction or your money back!!!! | 14 | | Nirvana Bleach
This is how the decade ends; not with a bang but with a grungy, disaffected whimper | 15 | | Blasphemy Blood Upon the Altar
...although there were bangs to be had too :). | |

06.22.16 | Havey that is fucking beautiful and I want to caress it, please elucidate upon 84 and the classical pick for 88 at your earliest convenience (and do the '90s, i'm really curious!) cheers fondest regards.
@voltairesangryglove: jealous!!
@hal1ax tiiight tho | hal1ax
06.22.16 | ya i would also like to know about that 1988 classical pick | iloveyouall
06.22.16 | classical favourites:
anything conducted by karajan | Havey
06.22.16 | 84 pick is a short hardcore punk ep with some of the most frenzied vocals you'll ever hear
and you might've already read about Messiaen's famous apocalyptic Quartet, yknow the one with the improbable instrumentation due to having been composed while imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp (and premiered in the same camp under difficult conditions)? the usual stuff. i recommend the Barenboim recording but not confidently... regrettably i haven't heard any other recordings
you want me to do the '90s just to see me pick LS i know it, i won't fall for thsi obvious bait | voltairesangryglove
06.22.16 | where'd my comments go? | Winesburgohio
06.22.16 | La Stazione or Laughing Stock though ;) | Winesburgohio
06.22.16 | also my favourite brand of cigs is Lucky Strikes so i have a lot of wonderful LS's in my life you'll have to be more specific |
