AFI - Crash Love Ranked
This album is criminally underrated. It's just a straight up awesome alt-rock album and sure, it's definitely the most different/non-AFI album when compared to the rest but this just sounds so natural. Some of their best ideas are on this one and it would be cool if they ever revisited a style like this. |

I Am Trying Very Hard To Be Here - really the only song I don't care for much on this. It isn't very interesting. Chorus is good enough. But yeah, nothing special. |
17 | | AFI Crash Love
Too Shy To Scream - super catchy and I love Davey's entrance |
16 | | AFI Crash Love
Too Late For Gods - used to not care for this song at all but I really like it now. I never listen to it though. |
15 | | AFI Crash Love
Where We Used To Play - This one jams hard. I think it's missing some sort of high point to really make me love it any more but still, awesome chorus. |
14 | | AFI Crash Love
Medicate - Better than Miss Murder. More fun than Miss Murder. Less cringey than Miss Murder. Solo is awesome. But yeah I actually became a fan of this band around when this album came out. I knew Girl's Not Grey and Miss Murder and maybe a few more. I saw a commercial for this album and I thought it was fate that I had to listen to these guys since I've been really digging their singles. I immediately found out that AFI fans weren't happy with this album but then I heard this and middle school me couldn't get enough of it and I really still can't. This was the last amazing first single this band has had |
13 | | AFI Crash Love
Beautiful Thieves - One of the 3 songs I obsessed over before actually listening to this album. |
12 | | AFI Crash Love
Sacrilege - This song probably takes the most punk inspiration from older AFI out of any other track on the base album. Jade rips on this one. |
11 | | AFI Crash Love
Fainting Spells - This song is so legit, it has a brooding acoustic intro and an intense chorus to match it. Having it this low feels criminal but that shows you how much I love this album. This is a Decemberunderground b-side that I think would have fit way better on that album and probably would have been an easy highlight if it made the tracklist, but I'm still so glad it's here. |
10 | | AFI Crash Love
Torch Song - I'D TEAR OUT MY EYES. FOR. YOU MY DEAR
I mean how much did AFI actually change from DU if they still manage to hit my teenage heart with feels like these. |
9 | | AFI Crash Love
Veronica Sawyer Smokes - The catchiest song on the album. That chorus is infectious. |
8 | | AFI Crash Love
It Was Mine - As the actual closer for this album, this song does a really great job. It's not the most typical closer on the surface until the bridge, which ends up being a really satisfying climax. The chorus is really cool. |
7 | | AFI Crash Love
We've Got The Knife - despised this song at one point in my life but damn, it's a groove that grew on me immensely. One of AFI's weirdest and most unique songs. |
6 | | AFI Crash Love
End Transmission - the song that really made me want to give this album a try. I wish it actually became a single or something because that chorus is such an anthem. |
5 | | AFI Crash Love
Breathing Towers to Heaven - That bridge is fucking epic. I hope this band realizes they have this gem in their discography and decide to bust it out live one of these days. |
4 | | AFI Crash Love
Darling, I Want To Destroy You - The only song on the main album that gives off some STS vibes. Yano, I'm pretty sure this still isn't the case, but it took me forever to hear this song because back in my middle school days, youtube was my prime source of listening to music and every video with this song was muted for some sort of copyright thing and I always found that so annoying. The fact that it ended up being one of my favorite AFI songs made it worth the wait. |
3 | | AFI Crash Love
Cold Hands - Yano at one point, I didn't like this song. It's the best jam on this album. Every part of this just rocks. |
2 | | AFI Crash Love
100 Words - AFI's best B-Side is unsurprisingly from STS sessions, but it surfaced during Crash Love. This is actually one of the band's most accomplished tracks and although it may not embody the darker tone of Sing The Sorrow, it definitely has to be one of this band's most emotional songs. One of Davey's best performances too and one of my favorite bridges. If you never gave this album a listen because you don't care for post-STS AFI, I definitely recommend this one since it is obviously an STS song and it easily would have been a top 5 song on that album too. |

Okay, I Feel Better Now - This song and This Celluloid Dream are my favorite AFI songs. This is by far the best ballad this band has ever written and perhaps the most emotional they've sounded. They haven't tried to make a track like this since, which is pretty surprising surprising but I really don't think they could do any better. I know this isn't a popular opinion, but this song is a special one for me. Easily one of my all time favorites. |
