05.22.11 | Props for 2, very underrated band. |
clercqie
05.22.11 | Indeed. After more than 50 listens, I still get chills from the intro of Wasted Life. |
AliW1993
05.22.11 | I can never decide whether I prefer Inflammable Material or Nobody's Heroes. |
clercqie
05.22.11 | For me it's definitely Inflammable Material. But I just recently started to listen to Nobody's Heroes, so my appreciation for it should grow some more. |
AliW1993
05.22.11 | Inflammable Material is an amazing debut but I really like the way Nobody's Heroes was produced and Fly The Flag is one of my very favourite Stiff Little Fingers songs. If I had to pick one it'd probably be Inflammable Material because it's singles are absoloutly excectional. |
clercqie
05.22.11 | Well, I find the production value of Nobody's Heroes a little too clean/slick/whatever... The demo-tape feel of their debut appeals more to me ;)
|
AliW1993
05.22.11 | Yeah I think the raw sound suits the angry and aggressive music they were making on Inflammable Material, but the songs on Nobody's Heroes are more pop-orientated and so I think the production suits them too. |
clercqie
05.22.11 | Point taken ;) |
AliW1993
05.22.11 | Out of interest, have you listened to any of their other albums? |
clercqie
05.22.11 | Some songs, but I find myself coming back to their first 2 albums.
I also tend to only listen to the most relevant albums of any older group, as otherwise there would be no end to some discographies. |

05.22.11 | even though this is just a two way conversation between AliW1993 & clercqie
I will intervene and agree with the list. |
AliW1993
05.22.11 | Yeah I find their later work very hit and miss, but I think that some of their best songs have come since they reformed (Each Dollar A Bullet, Harp). The first two are without a doubt their strongest. |
Yotimi
05.22.11 | Nice - 8 & 10 are two of my faves |
demigod93
05.22.11 | Wire - Pink Flag |
curseworship
05.22.11 | 4 is such a piece of shit, influential or not |
Satellite
05.22.11 | i can definitely live w/o 4 and 6 and i'm the punkest dude alive |
fr33convict
05.22.11 | Dead. Fucking. Keneddys. |
demigod93
05.22.11 | a lot of people hate 4 |
AliW1993
05.22.11 | I think personally think that 4 is one of the best albums ever created, and that opinion has nothing to do with it's influence. |
mallen-
05.22.11 | great to see 8 getting love |
Alrightmax
05.23.11 | There is a distinct lack of The Dead Milkmen on this list... |
clercqie
05.23.11 | ^ "Wire - Pink Flag"
Yeah, that one's in the honorable mentions, along with X-Ray Spex, The Damned and The Dead Boys... But I wanted to restrict the list to 10 entries.
Also, no American hardcore punk on this list. And btw, I find Dead Kennedys very overrated, fr33convict.
The Dead Milkmen, I will look up. |
WeepingBanana
05.23.11 | "classic punk" is such a retarded term |
clercqie
05.23.11 | Tell that to the Sputnik cataloging system ;) |
johnholly1039
05.23.11 | Good list but c'mon, if you're talking "essential albums" you need London Calling on there, much less classic punk essentials. |
clercqie
05.23.11 | London Calling must be my fav album of all time, but to call it "classic punk" is an insult to its quality/diversity. |
Trebor17
05.23.11 | Classic punk is a really stupid term. |
