02.20.15 | Gave it a listen. This is pretty great! The atmosphere is engaging and it doesn't lose its momentum. I liked the way the final crescendo segues into that lonely, wandering piano at the end. |

02.20.15 | Hopefully you continue to build on this. I'm on my second listen and I think there's a firm foundation for some great music here. This definitely has potential. |

02.20.15 | oh wow thanks thats so kind! i really appreciate you listening to it, i wasnt sure anyone was going to. its really hard to know if im doing the right thing so its great to have some encouragement, especially from someone who might not just be saying it to make me happy (like my girlfriend and close friend). i do want to build on this. i like the idea of making an album that just organically wanders through different sounds rather than writing distinct songs, so im making it all up as im going along recording each part. hopefully i can come up with some more ideas to extend it out to the length of an album. thanks again! |

02.20.15 | Oh, one thing I'm undecided on is whether or not this needs drums. What do you think? |
bnelso55
02.20.15 | I like the concept of flowing between multiple musical ideas in place having distinct songs. As far as reaching that goal, I definitely think you're off to a great start here. |

02.20.15 | This particular piece you have here sounds great without drums. There may be room for them and maybe it's worth experimenting with them. I know you're going for a cohesive whole that flows through a range of textures, so adding drums or some form of percussion may be a good way to diversify the musical palette, even if the percussion only appeared in a couple places. Maybe around the music's more intense moments? |

02.20.15 | That said, if you chose to go forego using drums, I bet you could still assemble and affecting atmosphere. Sometimes less is more, you know? |

02.20.15 | Ultimately, it's up to you, but I hope my thoughts are helpful. I know how much it means to receive feedback from someone other than, you know, your grandma. |

02.20.15 | It is helpful thanks again. Something I "worry" about with adding drums here and there is that it might sound weird if drums are randomly introduced where there were none before. Because drums are such a major and not-so-subtle component of music, it could be jarring if they just appeared towards the end of a song, as if from nowhere. I don't know. The only thing to do is try it I suppose, although I'm not particularly great at getting good rhythms going to be honest. I've thought of using just really sparse drums drowned out in reverb for the softer sections (think Sigur Ros's parentheses album), though I haven't really found a place for that so far. I'll see how it goes I guess. But either way it's good to get some motivation that I'm on the right track and not kidding myself if at least somebody out there finds some enjoyment in it. Cheers. |

02.20.15 | Yeah. I get what you mean about the drums appearing out of nowehere. It could run the risk of sounding out of place. Sparse, subtle drumming (Good call on the Sigur Ros influence), if any, would probably be the way to go. It may be worth experimenting a little and seeing if something clicks.
In my opinion, I'd say you're on the right track at this point. Best of luck to you. Maybe post again when you have more music to share? I'd be interested in giving it a listen. |

02.21.15 | Hey thanks for checking it out. I will definitely experiment with drums. No so likely to use vocals as I can't sing or write lyrics for shit. And I'm not looking to make this a collaborative thing. I'm excited at the prospect of making a solo album at first -- something I can call my own and be proud of. When I have more experience and feel more confident then I might look at joining a band or doing an online collaboration or something -- that would be really cool. But right now I wanted to see if anyone liked what I'd done just to see that I'm on the right track and not wasting my time with something shit since I have never been in a band or anything so haven't had any real approval of what I'm doing until now. You guys' comments are really great to hear and give me the motivation to push forward with it. Maybe I will take this list down now that some people have heard it so that I can reserve it all until I have a "finished product". Thanks again peeps. |
