'Born In A Tropical Swamp' is probably this album's best ambassador, as that's
exactly what the album sounds like: the teeming miracles that are commonplace in
tropical swamps. There's hard-hitting beats, but also sweeping, bubbling ambient
passages that crescendo down waterfalls and up into cavernous canopies. The
album is Shponglesque in its boldness and eclecticism, but uniquely intense in its
execution. |

lyrics are a tad elementary at times, but the flows are never rocky and the whole

This shit is LIVE, chowderheads. LIVE. And it's Zorn doing what he does best (the
ambiguity there tells you all you need to know): pissing on conventions and making
the listener uncomfortable in any fucking way he possibly fucking can. Notes that
aren't really 'notes,' per se? Check. That harsh, but sickeningly intriguing car-wreck
noise? Yupper. Monstrous repetition? You got it. This performance has a fitting title
if I ever saw one |

Besides Madvillainy, this is Doom at his buttery, unpretentious best. Despite his
totally stoned delivery, the obvious sense of humor that runs through his rhymes
(and the rampant sampling of clips having to do with DOOM and food) gives the
album a playfulness that just begs to have jalapeno Cheetos eaten next to it |

I don't really know what to compare this to, and yeah, that's kinda the point. It's
definitely sunny day music. Synth and lollipop and groomed unicorn music. Acid and
enlightenment and carefree connectedness music. |

fiesta. But not only is it not a turd fiesta, it fucking slays. Whooda thunk it, an 18-
minute political punk epic that never gets too overbearing, preachy, or long. Fuck

Someone on here called this "the whitest rap album ever created," and while that
might be true, it doesn't make the album any less rad. Very interesting verse
structures, with lots of visceral switching back n forth between the members, and
the lyrics are poetic in that grounded, careful kind of way. Streetwise philosophies.

I'm a sucker for this stuff, but come on, who isn't? Lyrics that hit their sentiments
in the bullseye every time, and melodies you'd have to be either dead or asleep to
not yell along to. It's no Knife Man or Love Ire & Song, but it's pretty wonderful. |
