Right now I'm trying to climb back up from the obscure place I've been in for the past year and maybe, just maybe I'll discover something that's been praised and suits my taste. So far without succes. |

1. You're intrigued in music so you check but are exposed to mainstream queef.
2. If you're true you look into bettering your music tastes and are then exposed to greats and lessers. The search continues trying to build your collection of greats but seem to never be satisfied because you know there is always something better.
3. Then if you are truest of trues, you leave the popular ideologies and focus and what music makes you feel best, which music brings out your deepest thoughts.
4. From here it is like a muscle that gets worked. You learn how to perfectly balance the need for fresh music and being content with what you have; but exceeding deeper into fleshing out what albums you don't need, or that are emotionally useless to you.
So I hope that made sense cuz I'm too lazy to go back and read it. |

In my opinion expanding in music tastes is the same as understanding yourself. Through my taste in music and how certain things make me feel I learned countless things about myself that I never knew before. Perhaps that's why we and I make the effort to connect with certain album because it's like connecting with ourselves and everyone wants to gain greater control over who they are. They want to further themselves. |

The biggest mistake in listening to new music is that I instantly try to categorize it and compare it to my favourite band in that genre. |

I'm so glad I actually sat and LISTENED to Neurosis for example earlier this year, as opposed to just
kinda spinning them in the background or whoring out one or two songs. It's surprising how relevant
their lyrics and themes are to my life currently (Eye of Every Storm in particular). My situation is
already tangibly changing thanks to them and some other bands and I would never have discovered that
if I hadn't given them that concentration. Helps that I'm actually paying attention to lyrics a hell
of a lot more these days too. Makes me wonder how many more albums there are out there waiting to have
the same effect on me, so in turn I feel compelled to seek these potential goldmines out from time to
time |
