Favorite Music: 90s Up To Now

Just a list of my favorite albums (one from each year) from 1990 up to this point. Nothing exciting really, just another way to avoid reading.
22Depeche Mode

I haven't listened to this album in full until very recently. It's very good! "Enjoy the Silence" is probably one of my favorite songs.

Death is one of my favorite bands, and Human is a big reason why. It has nearly everything you could ask for in a death metal album plus more. I bang my head so hard each time the album kicks off with "Flattening of Emotions".
Automatic for the People

The 90s was probably the best time period for straight-up alt rock like R.E.M. and Radiohead. Lots of goodies on this album.
19Aphex Twin
Selected Ambient Works 85-92

Such a relaxing album! I also feel like I can do thinks faster and better with this album playing in the background, crazy as it sounds. Whenever I need music to program, I listen to this.

It's melodic and it's brutal. Definitely my favorite Carcass release
17Dark Tranquillity
The Gallery

This just might be my favorite melodeath album. Lots of people may disagree with me on this, but I feel like this is where Mikael Stanne really shined. This album's got it all.

Tool is one of my favorite bands. This album is really diverse while maintaining a certain consistency that (I believe) the following album album lacks.
15Devin Townsend
Ocean Machine: Biomech

I think I said this in like ten different places around sputnik this past week: I'M DIGGING THE SHIT OUT OF THIS ALBUM RIGHT NOW
The Sound of Perseverance

My favorite Death record, and one of my favorite records ever. Seriously, just forget that Death was at one time a straight-up death metal band and listen to this album. Those solos will crush your testicles and the vocals and guitar melodies will take you on a journey. You'll still be lacking testicles on your journey, but it's all good.
Still Life

Mystical and magical is Opeth's Still Life. This is one of those albums that I cannot listen to one song off of, but have to listen to the entire album. Unless, of course, the songs are "Face of Melinda" or "Benighted".
Cries of the Past

If you haven't listened to this and you're a black metal / death metal / even a deathcore fan, you should probably get on that. And it's a Christian band. Sue me.
In Search of Truth

Either this or Recreation Day is my favorite Evergrey album. Both albums are fucking amazing. Other than this, there are only one or two albums that are worth listening to. After that, Tom Englund is the only reason you should be remotely interested.

Not as good as the re-make, but still an amazing album. Amazing and creative all around. "Perpetual Black Second" might even sound a bit better here.
War All The Time

This and The Shape of Punk to Come are my two favorite punk albums. This is, by far, my favorite Thursday album, from start to finish.
8Misery Signals
Of Malice and the Magnum Heart

One of my favorite albums of all time. My favorite piece of music that is affiliated with -core in any way. The breakdowns are catchy, there is a great consistency, and the melodies are so captivating.
7Strapping Young Lad

"Goddamn, I need it!"
6Negura Bunget

This is one of the rare occasions I'll have something decent to say about a black metal album. OM rules, and it rules hard. Such a well crafted record.

Anberlin really knows what's up. Christian's voice is soooooo good. If you like modern alt rock, you should probably check this out.
4The Psyke Project

This is an amazing hardcore album. It may seem to run on at times, but that's probably majorly because every single song on the album is played in the same key except for Jugganata. Converge fans will dig this album, especially if they also like Meshuggah. Anybody should dig the closing track that likes hard / alt rock / metal.
3The Devin Townsend Project

For me, it was a pretty weak year. Lucky we've got HevyDevy!
Chasing After Shadows...Living with the Ghosts

Another one of my favorite albums of all time. Hammock is the band that got me into post-rock. Will probably never grow sick of this album, or the band for that matter.
1 M83
Hurry Up, We're Dreaming

M83's most un-M83-like album is definitely their best. Anthony Gonzalez definitely knows how to make some great 80s era tunes.
