Chak chak chakka chakka chakka chakka chakka chakka chak.
Lyrics are very important to me. Bruce Springsteen "Thunder Road", Menzinger's "The Obituaries" (the "I cursed my lonely memories with picture perfect imageries"-part as sooo good), Brand New's "Jesus Christ", Dylan's "Desolation Row", Gaslight Anthem's "Wooderson". Too many to mention, those were just a few
"Land of Sunshine" has some of my favorite lyrics.
Also from The Mollusk" the title track has amazing lyrics.
Also Frank Zappa's "Dumb All Over" has hilarious lyrics. Uh...
Desolation Row has probably my favourite lyrics of all time.
Also I LOVE "Soul Love", best song on Ziggy by far.
Same man. Such an underrated track if you ask me. That saxophone just takes me to another world.
Yeah, Soul Love is a major highlight
off minor - the transient
Hahahaha killer that was so weird. Is that the actual in-game song or somebody's cover?
most important in folk, least important in any genre where you can barely tell what theyre saying anyways.
every MewithoutYou lyric. Aaron Weiss is my hands down favorite lyricist
John K. Samson is the best ever
Scott Kelly, and Neurosis in general.
The National - The Geese Of Beverly Road
Modest Mouse - Talking Shit About A Pretty Sunset
Manic Street Preachers- 4st 7lbs
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Neutral Milk Hotel - Oh Comely
The National - The Geese of Beverly Road
Brand New - I Will Play My Game Beneath the Spin Light
Radiohead - Idioteque
Modest Mouse - 3rd Planet
I read a book that had lyrics from Idioteque as a preface
Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness
3 for sure
damn double post.

Converge - Concubine
Glassjaw - Two Tabs of Mescaline
Ab-soul - Book of Soul
"What genres do you think that they are the most/least important?"
Most important: folk.
The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot
"Is that the actual in-game song or somebody's cover?"
in game song
wear the grudge like a crown
I'm more of a music guy, the lyrics are just a side. But some of the greatest lyrics ever are in Johnny Cash or Leonard Cohen
Lyrics can complement the music so well
sometimes like lyrical dissonance
"Lyrics can complement the music so well"
oh totally. I was just talking about my preference
Isaac Brock from Modest Mouse is probably my favourite lyricist.
Outkast have so many better lyrics than 10
"But some of the greatest lyrics ever are in Johnny Cash or Leonard Cohen"
I'd say Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen.
and Jethro Tull of course.
"Lyrics can complement the music so well"
Or they can be the main attraction.
That's even weirder.
Yeah but those earworm the most for me because I've been listening to that song for like 15 years.
Maybe Locust Star by Neurosis. Also, Eulogy and Third Eye, both by Tool.
List needs Modest Mouse hard
all of johnny cash's best songs were covers..
"I wear black on the outside
'Cause black is how I feel on the inside"
Fuck me that spoke volumes back in the day.
Part of your charm was
the way you would push me from
all of the traps that I just couldn’t see.
Figures the one that was there to
have tripped you up
would be the one
was set there
Wish I was there to say goodbye when you went away.
Wish I was home but noplace was there.
I cut off my arm at the bone in solidarity.
Capital teaches that there’s less when you share.
I felt the noose tighten up on your collar bone.
I felt the gun in the small of your back.
Engraved in the stone
by request and recurse of friends dead is
“Tell me again that it’s all in my head.”
Zak he is a gay lord
He is a massive queer
He gargles on the pork sword
And gets pissed off half a beer
Aww man, I was expecting a return song!
My name is Hong Tam
I'll give you bitches a dong grand slam
you're gonna scream when
I fuck your skull right outta your face
lyrics are poetry. i think that's an important point that people forget sometimes. also i have to admit it kinda bugs me when people say they "don't care about lyrics." if they weren't supposed to be there and didn't mean anything, they wouldn't be there. over the years i've learned to appreciate any style of lyrics. i've been doing it myself since i was 6 so i think i have a really good sense for that kind of thing. like the lyrics on Relationship of Command and Trout Mask Replica. i've dissected those to pieces
An ode to butters
There was once a man named buttery
Whose pockets were filled with nonce nuggetry
Sat by the swings, showing kids things
In the hope that he could commit buggery.
I'm proud if it, me Mum is going to put it on the fridge.
I'm getting it branded on me arse cheek
I like in that one song on Counterparts second record he says I am no longer a prophet cuz there last album was called Prophets and it fits with the theme of the record yeah I really like the lyrics on that record
Ha. Your me boy butters!!!
What is to feel...
Feel the gun on your temple
Pull the trigger now,
don't escape your fate, you got what you deserved
In the end, it'll be better, better
for you to shoot out now
Don't back away now,
you dug your own grave
Time to face the fucking fact and man
So I will pray
to a God that isn’t there,
to a world that doesn’t hear,
to anyone who will listen,
to keep me from becoming everything I promised myself that I would never be.
I do not deserve this.
If you were to find the metal
pressed on your head
Know that you got what you wanted
I ain't better off dead
importance of lyrics depends on style as well as certain band's approach to vocals within a style. ie lots of melvins lyrics are utter nonsense but it doesnt matter cause it sounds sweet. lots of rh lyrics too dont make any sense and are really abstract, because usually thom approaches voice as an instrument rather than the focal point of the music
I whip my dick out and go to work
My job is at the spank bank and I'm the clerk
Sometimes how it sounds means more than what it means
Like the lyrics on As The Roots Undo sound cool as fuck, just the way they flow and word choice and what not, I don't know what a lot of it means but I don't give a fuck because the emotion comes from the music
I love all of the opinions that are being shared here.
"Sometimes how it sounds means more than what it means"
yes omg this
I get nasty in my taxi you need a lift?
You can sit between the backseat and my dick
i was going to make a list with this but fuck it
Mouth Of The Architect - Hate And Heartache:
We all lie to ourselves,
It never changes a thing.
Red wine and worry,
Empty eyes and wanting lips.
Loss spills over onto itself,
God damn me and everything.
The trials of hate and heartache,
a reminder of my mistakes.
Neurosis - Purify:
Drowning in the birth
Place of the sun
Descending the path
Of an ascending god
Purify my hells to
Climb the heavens
Sacrifice the flesh
Feeding solar visions
Set your mind to soil
A knowing old
A knowing wise
Flames to blades
On earth, stabbing
Scorching sacred lust
Fall back to stone
Fall back on spear
cult of lulu - Vicarious Redemption:
Trying to recover the flesh. Casting spells upon swines.
Reject reviled wisdom. No powers are divine.
Moving mountains, splitting seas,
False hope never beckoned me.
No gods, no masters, no rulers, no kings;
What you reject, I bring.
7 horns 7 eyes -The Falsehood of Affliction:
Did you think it was fruit that brought the fall
The deception of an outside hand
The decision of a malevolent god
This curse is not a curse
This legacy of sin
Is all just a reaction
This bane of our humanity
Is our humanity itself
Blame the plague
Fuel the detractors of the cure
If this is a curse from a god
Then what morality is there in worship
This is us
There is no sin
There is only man
We can only hurt
We can only steal
We can only cheat
We can only kill
Gaza -The Truth Weighs Nothing:
It sure was nice of Jesus to take time away from ignoring
Ethnic cleansing genocide and famine bloated children.
Or regrowing limbs for landmine victims
To help you score that touchdown
To help you find your keys
To help you land that promotion.
Is it that he can't? Or is that he won't?
Wake up. Wake the fuck up.
The truth weighs nothing. Travel light. Be unburdened.
"cult of lulu"
Those Mouth of The Architcts lyrics were sweet. I'll have to check 'em out.
from Quietly, album is depressing but great stuff anyway
hail cult of lulu m/
Caught cutting through the running tide.
Portrayed way past a prime tripping over words and playing tricks on time.
Eastern standard time of the dead.
Wear clocks round our necks like tombstones.
Fuck not lest ye be fucked.
A point invariably moot when you've outgrown smarts and frustration is your strongest suit.
Keep in mind, it's the wisest man that will always be told to foret his ego for a minute and
Realize that he can't replace his ass just because he found a crack in it.
(26 years past my prime as if minutes made a difference)
And How can we sit so still when it's so hard
(Like ostriches with heads in sand we fear our desires.)
So hard to find what you loved
(Breathe every breath like it wasn't a countdown)
To find what you felt in that touch?
(Breathe every breath like it wasn't a countdown)
And How can I go searching for these days when I'm standing among them?
Rhetorical wisdom is a locked door a lost chance and all you'll ever see a statement betrayed like Your worst enemy.
Breathe every breath like it wasn't a countdown.
Can't change a mind lost to the hours held so dear,
Can't force your way out of a dream purchased with fear.
