02.14.13 | The acting was incredible tho |

02.14.13 | Yeah I found it to be pretty vague on insight. Philip Seymour Hoffman was gold, as per usual, but I was really disappointed with Joaquin's performance. I don't understand why he chose to mumble through half his lines and spend most of the movie hunched over like an old man. Other than that I thought it was pretty decent. |

02.14.13 | I give Phoenix an A+ for looking like Brando. |

02.14.13 | I think it's probably one of PTA's weakest films (of course that still means it's really good). It's mostly character driven and not a lot of plot, so it can seem really boring at times. The performances are really great though. Joaquin Phoenix is amazing.
I'd probably rank PTA films like this: Magnolia > There Will Be Blood > Boogie Nights > Punch-Drunk Love > The Master. (haven't seen Hard Eight) |

02.14.13 | I thought Phoenix killed it.
I basically gathered that it was an examination of the id, ego, and superego via character study filtered through post-WWII America during the rise of the occult/Scientology in America. |
