Some albums that didn't "click" straight away. Many many listens later and these are some of my all time favourites... Not in any particular order | 1 | | The National Alligator
The first album I heard from these guys and took a while to get into. At first Matt Berninger's baritone voice seems very monotonic, and just a bit dull really. Boy am I glad I persisted with this one. I don't know what else to say really, except that now the National are one of my all time favourite bands . | 2 | | Opeth Blackwater Park
Standard. It really did take me a while to like this album, mainly because at the time Metallica and all sorts of metalcore were occupying my ipod. | 3 | | Rush 2112
I got into rush after really liking 'Limelight' and 'Moving Pictures' in general. The sweeping 20 minute epic of an opener was unlike anything I'd heard except a couple of Dream Theater songs. I soon found out that these songs are what Rush is all about and proceeded in getting a bunch more Rush albums. 2112 is just a fucking great album, Rush is just a fucking awesome band. | 4 | | Radiohead OK Computer
Generic. Bought this on CD real cheap, and I ended up not listening to it properly for months. Finally I gave it a good go, I found the vocals to be a bit odd and depressing. Lyrically I began to appreciate Thom Yorke a hell of a lot more, coupled with the emotion he emits in every single word this album soon grew on me. Probably my favourite album ever. Definatley top 5 anyway. | 5 | | EPMD Strictly Business
Maybe this is only because I don't listen to a whole lot of hip-hop, only modern stuff from guys like Kanye etc. The rapping is relatively slow, the album moves at a leisurely pace. Beyond that, the production is insane. Samples lifted from Bob Marley to Pink Floyd combined with the effortless flow of this album makes this a truly remarkable album. | 6 | | Neutral Milk Hotel In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
Honestly quite a weird album. Strange vocals, and complex musical arrangements makes this album far from easy-listening. Lyrically superb, the concept of the album is soon evident. After initially dismissing this album, it is now one of my favourites. Just give it a chance... | |

01.14.11 | Nice to see EPMD get some love, especially what you said in your caption about it. As for your remark about listening to the new hip hop guys like kanye, you cant appreciate the new without diving into the old, so kudos to you. As for 2, its a fucking staple on this site and as much as i like the album, it gets annoying how much people worship it. Take no offense. Besides, Still Life is way cooler imho. And I actually own 3, but never REALLY gave it a chance so you inspired me to blow the dust off the top of it's case. | Inveigh
