11.28.10 My Favourite Contemporary Rock Artists

My Favourite Contemporary Rock Artists

I don't like most modern rock. I find that most rrrmainstream contemporary bands are either whiny rrrdepressing "alternative" imitators of Eddie rrVedder rand Kurt Cobain or simply too weird to be rrrappealing to me in any way. But there are a few rrrexceptions. There are some bands that have the rrrcourage to ignore the established trends in rrfavour rof making something that I like. Here rthey rare:
1Wolfmother
Song

Some people say Wolfmother rips off the artists of the seventies. i agree. however, i don't see this as a bad thing- I would rather have a few bands doing what they like and playing some true rock n roll rather than being forced to play mindless modern crap. and Andrew Stockdale is the guy who does the best job at this.
2Foo Fighters
Song

Even in Nirvana, I always liked Dave Grohl better than Kurt (though I respect them both). I like how Dave sounds so passionate and emotional without sounding whiny. other vocalists could take a lesson from him
3Airbourne
Song

As the Rolling Stones once said: "I know it's only rock n roll, but I like it."
4Buckethead
Song

I am by no means putting Buckethead under Airbourne because i think he is less talented. on the contrary, I see him as a modern-day Hendrix. I only do so because of the fact that his weirdness (or genius insanity) is sometimes too much for me
5Danko Jones
Song

Dirty, rebellious RNFR at it's best
6Animal Collective
Song

no one can beat these guys when it comes to gloriously trippy weirdness.
7Joe Bonamassa
Song

great guitar, great voice
8Sixx AM
Song

Amazing vocalist, superb guitarist. Nikki's lyrics are simple, but James Michael gives them raw power and genuine emotion
9Rage Against the Machine
Song

Tom Morello is a genius. period
10Franz Ferdinand
Song

Nothing particularly innovative about their music. But I like it.
11Mooney Suzuki
Song

New York's best kept secret
12The Trews
Song

It's good that there is still some great talent in Canada.
13Avenged Sevenfold
Song

I don't like their early work. But the guitars bring back memories of Guns N Roses circa 1990.
14Audioslave
Song

They sounded like a strange combo of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Led Zep and RATM. i genuinely liked them.
15Albert Hammond Jr
Song

His songs are light, fun, and just a great sample of easy listening
