| Night At The Movies
Some stuff ive watched recently, its been awhile since i watched this
many movies, mostly due to lack of time, so now im catching up | 1 | | Sleepmakeswaves In Today Already Walks Tomorrow
The Raid, whatever, the best action movie made in the last 20 years | 2 | | This Will Destroy You Young Mountain
City of Life and Death, drama movie revolving the crimes of the japanese empire
during the Nanking occupation. Its a huge punch in the stomach and its gonna
hurt for awhile, the movie itself is executed brilliantly and shows the struggles of
both sides. | 3 | | Chevelle Vena Sera
Blade Runner, im into cyberpunk anime, its something that i cant explain but
most of the sci fi stuff that comes from japan leaves me wondering about many
aspects of life. this movie started it all, and im amazed at how well this has aged,
the film looks amazing, the story is excellent and it has the philosophical bs that is
present in most cyber punk of today. if you like sci fi, this is for you | 4 | | Jimmy Eat World Futures
13 Assassins, a chanbara about 13 samurai who must stop a evil warlord. The
movie is gory and very action oriented but still has allot of messages, the way of
the samuray bs and does a damn good job of represent the feudal ages | 5 | | American Football American Football
Merantau, this was Iko Uwais first movie and it was also directed by Gareth Evans,
they both went and produced 'The Raid'. The movie has that sophisticated feel and
shows both the amazing Silat skill by Iko and Gareths cool filmography shots. Not
much when it comes to story but helluva fun in the action department | 6 | | Hopesfall The Satellite Years
The Raid 2, Rama vs Ryuichi is hands down my favourite fighting scene ever in a
movie even tho i prefer the original over this but this is almost as good | 7 | | ASC Out Of Sync
The Blair Witch Project, a fellow sputniker reminded me of this movie and i gave it
a rewatch after almost 15 years. And its still creepy and mystifying as hell, a great
found footage film | 8 | | Explosions in the Sky All of a Sudden, I Miss Everyone
Poltergeist, some told me this is a must watch if youre a fan of horror movies. tbh
im not, but i didnt find the movie to be scary or anything although the ideas and
the story and actually pretty good, overall i really liked this one | 9 | | God is an astronaut Age of the Fifth Sun
2001: A Space Odyssey, a rewatch, not much to be said about this film just watch
it and find your own answers | 10 | | Maybeshewill I Was Here For a Moment, Then I Was Gone
The Man From Nowhere (Ajeossi), a great action flick taking place in japan. wont
spoil most of the story but the action scenes are brutal and theres actually allot of
effort both in story and acting | 11 | | Thursday War All the Time
Paranormal Activity, some scary moments but imho its a snooze fest most of the
time.. not to mention this is the stupidest couple in movie history, why wont they
just shut the door? | 12 | | Poison the Well The Opposite of December
Paranormal Activity 3, forget the first movie, this is the real deal | 13 | | Blindead Impulse
Man Of Tai Chi, directed by Keanu Reeves with ALLOT of fighting scenes, and good
fighting scenes tbh. The acting is laughable but the plot is interesting enough | 14 | | Boards of Canada The Campfire Headphase
Ong Bak, action movie based on Muay Thai. had mixed opinions about this one, in
some cases the movie is really good but in others it just exaggerates allot | 15 | | Fightstar Alternate Endings
Event Horizon, i could go as far as saying the movie was really decent until the
second half, where it all took a ride on the bullshit train. i was surprised to see this
was directed by paul anderson tho.. its by far his best movie ahahahahhahaa | 16 | | 65daysofstatic We Were Exploding Anyway
Inception, massive points for originality, the movie has a good balance between
action and story but theres always someone explaining things when there
should've been stuff that explained things to us. i fucking hate that shit, having
someone constantly explaining the audience just wtf is going on, in most movies
they even treat the audience like fucking idiots.. have something else do the
explanations. as for the rest, its really good | 17 | | Sigur Ros Kveikur
Universal Soldier: Day Of Reckoning, never though that this franchise would have
a movie this good. its not only balanced in terms of plot and action, the actors
themselves did a fine good job of keeping things in their place and the
filmography is perfect for this. this movie is even better than 'Regeneration' the
prequel to this, which was already a really good action flick and way better than
the original 'Universal Soldier' | 18 | | Mogwai Young Team
Godzilla (2014), not bad for a Kaiju movie but i wanted more Godzilla action. also,
i was a bit disappointed that the big G didnt go apeshit and destroyed everything
in his way | 19 | | DJ Krush Zen
Master And Commander, yea, yea, its good but it feels forced in many parts, like
most Hollywood movies taking place in the past. on a side note, Russell Crowe is
just as awesome as he always is | 20 | | Hopesfall No Wings To Speak Of
gonna watch Babel tomorrow! | |
Shuyin
06.29.14 | fuck yea, movies!
list is random jams | Rowan5215
06.29.14 | Can't get into Space Odyssey :/
recently watched Memento what a film | Shuyin
06.29.14 | ive got memento and insomnia on my list of stuff to watch, i heard good things about those 2 movies and tbh, Nolan is a really good director | Shuyin
06.29.14 | as for space odyssey, its understandable. its not for everyone, i didnt really like it on the first watch, but this time i was like OMFG most of the time | Rowan5215
06.29.14 | Haven't seen Insomnia but Memento was fuckin fantastic
I mean I can appreciate that Space Odyssey is visually fantastic but the storyline and characters bore me to tears | Shuyin
06.29.14 | it has many different parts and the lack of dialogue is what makes it so special
like the scene when Bowman is locked outside the ship and all you hear is heavy breathing, the movie puts the audience in that situation. and the part when he disconnects Hal and the computer starts singing.. just wow | Rowan5215
06.29.14 | That part with HAL you mentioned is fantastic, yes. In fact every time HAL was on-screen I loved, he was a fantastic character and incredibly well voiced
but like, that's only one of four parts of the movie, and the others I don't like
especially part two aka the half an hour of a movie which is mostly comprised of completely irrelevant small talk, fucking hate that part | Shuyin
06.29.14 | ah the one where they tried to demonstrate modern man exploring space, i can agree that it is the weakest part of the film but the ending near the monolith is awesome!
that atmosphere song or whatever that plays when the monolith is around is one the most unsettling sounds ive ever heard | Rowan5215
06.29.14 | I hate that that section just ends on a cliffhanger that is NEVER resolved though, like you never have any idea what happens to any of the people and no idea of what the purpose of the monolith sending out the radio signal was IN ANY WAY
I mean I get that he wants to preserve the ambiguity and everything, I love me some ambiguity but there's a point where it just goes overboard and in that section it feels like he's wasted 20 minutes introducing us to characters which end up being completely irrelevant | Shuyin
06.29.14 | the movie is all about the audience finding their own conclusions.
imo, the characters in that section are supposed to be irrelevant, the whole thing is to introduce the modern man (or my conclusion: the effect of the contact with the monolith) and add the directors vision on future space exploration, which aged relatively well | Rowan5215
06.29.14 | I get that there just isn't enough in the plot of the movie to draw me in enough for me to WANT to make my own conclusion if you get me
I just simply don't care enough about the movie to go to the effort of understanding the message (which I'm sure is fantastic once you put the effort in)
but opinions and such | Shuyin
06.29.14 | yea, its deff not for everyone.
thats also one of the reasons why i think 2010 doesnt deserve all the hate it gets, i mean, what were they supposed to do after 2001? it is a one of a kinda movie, thats one of the things that makes it so special. but they cant just pick up the formula and apply it on another movie, im sure no one would want them to arrive on Jupiter and have another LSD trip | Riviere
06.29.14 | Just watched 19 yesterday. Not as good as I remember it, but overall decent. Crowe was on point,
Bettany as a secondary character is always good support. | Rowan5215
06.29.14 | I've never seen 2010 haha and I almost never see people talking about it, I kinda assumed it would be hated though because its the sequel to a 'classic'
But yeah I suppose its like when bands follow up classic albums, fans are invariably gonna be disappointed but its better if the band tries to break new ground than retread the classic's steps I guess | scorpiusx
06.29.14 | 2001 is a phenomenal achievement that is very easy to appreciate and be in awe of, yet difficult to truly love. It deserves all of the accolades and respect that may comes its way though.
As for Blade Runner, it's staggering that that movie was put out in 1982. The cinematography and production design are just masterful, and the music is great too. The fact that the cinematography didn't get nominated for an Oscar that year but "Tootsie"'s did makes me nearly livid. | DominionMM1
06.29.14 | "ive got memento and insomnia on my list of stuff to watch, i heard good things about those 2 movies and tbh, Nolan is a really good director"
memento is excellent. insomnia is meh but it's one of the few films in which robin williams is actually bearable so I guess nolan deserves some credit.
| joshuahuntkc
06.29.14 | I loved insomnia. at times I enjoyed it more than memento. | Calc
06.29.14 | just saw Journey to the West, loved it. | PitchforkArms
06.29.14 | babel is ight, quite boring at times, but if you stick through it it is very emotional
i think inception is hugely overrated
as far as best action movies in the past 20 yrs.... do the new star trek's count or is that just sci-fi simply?? | Rowan5215
06.29.14 | Inception certainly wasn't what it was hyped to be for me, it had great aspects but just no re-watch value
And yeah the new Star Trek movies are def action-based not solely sci-fi | PitchforkArms
06.29.14 | i LOVED the new star treks they'd be up there for me then.. | ZombicidalMan
06.29.14 | watched the 36th chamber of shaolin for kicks. awesome movie | ZombicidalMan
06.29.14 | and yeah best action movie in the past 20 years has to go to Dredd 3D | DrGonzo1937
06.29.14 | Loving this list right up till you watched Paranormal.... fucking terrible films. | DrGonzo1937
06.29.14 | 13 Assassins is absolutely amazing. | Shuyin
06.29.14 | 'But yeah I suppose its like when bands follow up classic albums, fans are invariably gonna be disappointed but its better if the band tries to break new ground than retread the classic's steps I guess'
exactly, they could only follow the plot at that point
'As for Blade Runner, it's staggering that that movie was put out in 1982. The cinematography and production design are just masterful, and the music is great too. The fact that the cinematography didn't get nominated for an Oscar that year but "Tootsie"'s did makes me nearly livid.'
yea, it still has that 80s feel but its all fine by me because i love it. its prolly one of the best sci fi movies ive ever watched
'memento is excellent. insomnia is meh but it's one of the few films in which robin williams is actually bearable so I guess nolan deserves some credit.'
im really looking forward for both films, everything ive watched from Nolan ends up being enjoyable as hell | Shuyin
06.29.14 | 'I loved insomnia. at times I enjoyed it more than memento.'
well, same as above
'babel is ight, quite boring at times, but if you stick through it it is very emotional'
i wanna check something different for a change and babel looked sweet, besides the movie was 5 euros so i couldnt just leave it there, also bough apocalypse now, i needed to have that movie on my colection
'Inception certainly wasn't what it was hyped to be for me, it had great aspects but just no re-watch value'
agree, but its a really unique movie
'Loving this list right up till you watched Paranormal.... fucking terrible films.'
the first one is dumb as hell, but the third is surprisingly solid. havent checked any of the others, ive got trollhunter and rec to watch later so my found footage list should be cool for the moment
and as for the action movie things.. dont say anything until you watch the raid, trust me, its THAT good
| Shuyin
06.29.14 | and please dont watch the dubbed version, the voices sound like cartoons! | Buzzkillr
06.29.14 | >raid better than raid 2
you're watching it wrong | DrGonzo1937
06.29.14 | REC 1 I thought was pretty bad --minus the ending-- but REC 2 was great. | PitchforkArms
06.29.14 | I liked raid quite a bit. and i thought REC was a solid film | Shuyin
06.29.14 | raid had that feeling that youre stuck in a place with no way out, raid 2 was more open, ofc it had better plot. i prefer th first one but only by a tiny bit, they're both hard 5s
btw babel was fucking amazing |
