10.08.10 | 3 was so much worse then the original, I didn't care for it at all |
Metalstyles
10.08.10 | Is 5 really good? Let's say I'm mildly interested in it, but I also have a feeling it might suck pretty bad |
GorgonzolaCheese1
10.08.10 | It's very good. I was not expecting much when I walked into the theatre, but walked out extremely pleased. Very well put together. The only thing I didn't like about it is the same reason why I don't like all Eisenberg movies: He's in it. |
Metalstyles
10.08.10 | lol, ok then. Dunno if I'm gonna go to the cinema to see it or just d/l it, but I'll give it a shot. |
GorgonzolaCheese1
10.08.10 | Yeah, at least check it out. It's a pretty well put together flick. |
Inveigh
10.08.10 | haha Inception's the only one of these I've seen. Liked it a lot though. I saw Kick Ass earlier this year and thought that was pretty great, and McGruber was surprisingly not god-awful. Seeing The Town tomorrow, pretty pumped for that.
also can we talk for a minute about that More Than Life album, and how good of a year it's been for hardcore? |
Baphomet
10.08.10 | gotta love the Leo strutt |
GorgonzolaCheese1
10.08.10 | That More Than Life album is a beast, as well as that Departures record. Trash Talk's new album was pretty good, but my favorite of the year in the genre was Ceremony's Rohnert Park. |
GorgonzolaCheese1
10.08.10 | Damn, I forgot, but even CBK surprised me with Symptoms + Cures. |
Inveigh
10.08.10 | if we're counting it as hardcore, then Kvelertak is definitely my favorite of the year. Black Breath, More Than Life, Ceremony were all awesome too. There are still quite a few I need to hear, Trash Talk being one of them, and I guess Comeback Kid, though I haven't liked their more recent stuff. |
Inveigh
10.08.10 | haha there it is, I guess I should get it then |
OvrotLivesAgain
10.08.10 | Did you see Splice? |
GorgonzolaCheese1
10.08.10 | Yeah, Broadcasting was incredibly boring, but they kind of go back to their roots with S + C's, and Andrew Neufeld is proving himself to be a much better vocalist than Wade ever was.
I forgot about Kvelertak! I still think I would go with Rohnert Park as my favorite. |
GorgonzolaCheese1
10.08.10 | No, and I probably won't, Ovrot. |

10.08.10 | tbh its pretty insulting to real filmmakers to have toy story above any of the others |
GorgonzolaCheese1
10.08.10 | Can't appreciate a movie for what it is, Acad? |
theacademy
10.08.10 | if you mean goodwill + advertising, cashgrabbery, then yea i have no problem recognizing it. I just wouldnt place it above some of these films that took legitimate creative risks that paid off (e.g., Social Network, Scott Pilgrim, The Kids are Alright) |
GorgonzolaCheese1
10.08.10 | It doesn't matter that it was a completely enjoyable film that brought me back to my childhood, huh? Okay, let's completely take out sentiment and likeability and just go with who's directing it. |
Inveigh
10.08.10 | i know dude it would be like rating a Hollywood Undead album above Radiohead |
GorgonzolaCheese1
10.08.10 | Oh man, because Oliver Stone directed it, W. was the best movie I've seen in ten years! |
wyankeif1337
10.08.10 | My little sis had a line in TS3. |

10.08.10 | The Social Network is fantastic |

10.08.10 | "Okay, let's completely take out sentiment and likeability and just go with who's directing it."
who said anything about WHO was directing it? I'm just talking about what i appreciate when seeing a movie... i have no idea who cholodenko is but fuck if that movie wasn't worth more to me than ts3.
and on the subject of likeability, i mean just about everybody likes watching dumb and dumber more than the godfather, but would anybody argue that the former is a better film? Social Network was a better film than Scott Pilgrim, but i LIKED sp a shitload more... Scherezade is obviously better than Swan Songs, but i fucking rage like all damn day bitch
stfu, man u cant tel me noffin about movies i run new york |

10.08.10 | "THat's your exact quote, Acad, so you brought up directors."
a. filmmakers aren't necessarily directors, but this is a fair assumption; (you would be ok if it werent for b)
b. i said nothing about WHO the filmmakers were. fuck man, this is irrelevant. the only thing that matters is the final product, and the sweat that goes into it. ts3 just doesnt have the same organs as a real film. |
Inveigh
10.08.10 | "Scherezade is obviously better than Swan Songs, but i fucking rage like all damn day bitch"
comment of the day |
GorgonzolaCheese1
10.08.10 | You kinda did insinuate who those filmmakers were when you said it was insulting to have toy story above any of THE others. Just so you know. If this list was based off of acting/production/directing, it probably wouldn't make the list, but out of sheer likeability(which is what this list is based off of), it belongs on this list for me. |

10.08.10 | I hate movies in general |

no i didnt. the other directors could all be uwe boll and having ts3 above uwe boll's "The Social Network" would still be a problem for me. |
Emim
10.08.10 | Don't you dare be hating on Toy Story!!!!!!!
I want to see that Matt Damon movie that's coming out later this year; looks good. |
robertsona
10.08.10 | scott pilgrim and the social network were the best so far, i guess. nothing has really been amazing, whereas last year had three |

It was like "Don't mess with my father; he's a bad dude" So I was thinking, oh cool Michael Douglas is a mafioso or something. Turns out that "or something" is a FUCKING STOCK TRADER. |
GorgonzolaCheese1
10.08.10 | I had someone on here the other day arguing with me about this being a sequel. He should be dead by now. |
Emim
10.08.10 | Isn't it just a remake? |
GorgonzolaCheese1
10.08.10 | Lol, no. It's a sequel, as in Wall Stree 2: Money Never Sleeps. |
Emim
10.08.10 | I'm glad I pay such close attention to movies ;)
I knew there had been a first Wall Street, but someone told me this one was just a remake. |
sleepyhead
10.08.10 | no kick-ass? no four lions?? no shutter island??? inception was amazingly fun but still overrated and flawed |
Romulus
10.09.10 | gotta say the twist in shutter island was the lamest thing ever. |
sleepyhead
10.09.10 | @Romulus, you're missing the point. but even if you didn't like the twist you gotta admit it had 10 times more substance than Inception |
JWT155
10.09.10 | Nah, Inception ruled. |
Romulus
10.09.10 | i'm not sure which i liked more. inception kind of disappointed me cause i thought they could've delved into the psychological aspect way more but they didn't and it turned into a mildly enjoyable action movie. shutter island i thought was pretty solid all the way through but they built up that climax so, so much and it was really predictable. |
Kiran
10.09.10 | you guys should all watch 'un prophete', it's technically a 2009 film but was only given a US & UK release in 2010.
i'm really interested to see how 'let me in' turned out |
Kiran
10.09.10 | oh and if youre a total movie buff, watch 'enter the void'. its an experience. the acting and narrative are a bit weak at times but its a total trip. |

10.11.10 | "3 was so much worse then the original, I didn't care for it at all"
The hell. Let Me In was better than LTROI in nearly every way. The only thing LTROI had going for it was the fact that it was released first. |
Kiran
10.11.10 | the original was fantastic and the remake was great too but the majority of what made the remake great was exactly what made the original so good: the subtlety, the pace, the quiet, the sense of loneliness. you cant say it was nearly better in every way when the best parts of the movie (including some of the most powerful scenes) were already there to be replicated. not knocking the remake, it was much, MUCH better than i expected, but its a difficult comparison. its much more hollwood-ized (removing the gender theme?), the lead actors aren't as natural and unnerving, and as it came to the ending 'owen's character felt too obvious, like they didn't trust the audience to understand the moral dilemma. the remake was good enough to be justified but id take the original any day. |
Gyromania
10.11.10 | I've yet to watch the original =[ |
Kiran
10.11.10 | i felt the romance of it was supposed to be underplayed. they're just kids. it wasn't supposed to be romantic as much as their bond was about kinship and understanding. the "would you like me if i wasn't a girl?" scene and, subsequently, if i was a vampire? etc. still, the remake didn't dumb the film down too much (though the lost ambiguity of the caretaker role comes to mind as particularly unnecessary), which i did appreciate. |
Kiran
10.11.10 | exactly! thats why the ambiguity of the caretaker role in the original, or even as he was positioned in the book as a pedophile who she only met later in life, was so important. the hollywood version smacks us in the face with the 'she's manipulating him!' dilemma/possibility whereas its much, much differently played out when that role isn't so obvious. and uh (sort of) SPOILER ALERT sorry |
Kiran
10.11.10 | that's really where we differ, as i really appreciated the subtlety of the original because it didn't force the morality of it on you as much as the direction the remake took did. in the original, you could really question what she felt for her caretaker and for oskar but in the remake, that her caretaker was given that background, it generally feels much more forced that theyre pushing the manipulative theme to counter the strength of the portrayal of their friendship. i guess that's one of the issues with trying to push it to a wider audience though. it's a great movie, i think i'm sounding a lot more negative than i actually feel towards it and having loved the original, how could i possibly not like a remake this well executed? |
Sheeple9000

10.11.10 | 10's a solid album, pretty good film.
I've heard Let Me In described as a vampire film that happens to have kids in, while the original was a film about childhood that happened to have vampirism in. Only seen the original. |
