Edwin
11.03.10 | Welcome bach. |
Butkuiss
11.03.10 | Thanks Edwin! Joe Tripodi is still waiting on his dinner by the way.
And @Kangaroopoo. You serious? That was two weeks ago. Damn, I thought it would have arrived faster. Make sure to tell me how it is when it arrives.
And I'm not Sebastion. I'm Johann Sebastian. |
kangaroopoo
11.03.10 | will do
u play bagpipes? |
Butkuiss
11.03.10 | Psht, I wish. I'm a bassman and vocalist on the side, but I've always wanted to play the pipes (as well as the didgeridoo and the hang). If I had the time and money I'd certainly invest in learning how to play, but right now admiring their awesomeness is all I'm doing. |
kangaroopoo
11.03.10 | the ol pipes are pretty stirring, especially when heard live
never properly tried the didge either |
Butkuiss
11.03.10 | You can say that again. The pipes are probably my favourite-sounding instrument. They have an amazing timbre, and they're criminally underused. And I've always admired the didge. I've always wanted to do some drone-ish music incorporating didge.
So I take it you play the pipes then? |
kangaroopoo
11.03.10 | god know, can't even recall when I saw them performed, just remember their effect
also of course with AC/DC + Farnham's versions of "it's a long way to the top..." |
Butkuiss
11.03.10 | Haha, my bad. I think there was also a song by Jebediah (that Aussie alt-rock band from way back when) that had the pipes in them. All Fall Down or something, but don't quote me on that.
I've got a fair bit of Scot in me, so love of the pipes is just something that's in my blood I guess. I'm always in the mood for some good pipe bands to wind down after a twelve hour black metal streak or something. |
kangaroopoo
11.03.10 | yeah I remember Jebediah, didn't get into them
the pipes definitely give some contrast to a heavy guitar session, although they have bobbed up in some metal songs |
Butkuiss
11.03.10 | I didn't get into them either, I just have some random compilation lying around from ages ago with them on it for some reason. And I do love me some pipe metal at times. Eluveitie seem to do it the best (regardless of the difference between Uilleann and Great Highland Pipes), for me anyway, but a few other bands manage to pull it off sufficiently. |
kangaroopoo
11.03.10 | haven't sampled eluveitie
think Neurosis' Times of Grace had some bag pipes
will have to try bagpipes some day
Not the usual stirring bagpipes performance, but I remember when I saw Scottish comedian Danny Bhoy do his bagpipe skit
speaking of Scots, I do enjoy Billy Connolly |
Butkuiss
11.03.10 | Yes, I think it did actually. Thanks for the reminder; haven't listened to Neurosis in ages. And ahh. Danny Bhoy and Billy Connolly. Hilarious. |
kangaroopoo
11.03.10 | yes hilarious stuff
hey check sheeple's penguin list, think I found you in a photo |
Edwin
11.03.10 | Hey guys stop talking about bagpipes and start talking about our terrific loss in the cricket tonight! |
Butkuiss
11.03.10 | I was just on there in fact! And you found me in a photo? Dear lord. Which one? |
Butkuiss
11.03.10 | Actually. I take that back. By golly it is me! And we lost? Oh dear. I wasn't watching. Damn Sputnik taking up all my time. |
kangaroopoo
11.03.10 | yeah I forgot about the cricket, we're really on the slide |
Butkuiss
11.03.10 | I blame Gillard. |
