08.29.11 | Personally, I don't think you need to lose any weight, but you should start out slow. Don't rush into working out right away (then you get all sore). Start by walking for like 15 minutes as a warm up, then jog another 15-20 minutes. Eat healthier especially, you'll feel a lot better and seeing the number on the scale go down is a major confidence booster. Just make sure to burn more calories than you take in. Losing weight is gonna be harder if you weigh less, so don't get frustrated if you don't lose weight "fast." Good luck :) |

Rode a mechanical bull on Saturday... It made sure to point out I'm old. I accepted the pain it gave me and thanked it for the reminder. I am now crippled for an undisclosed period of time but at least nothing is permanently broken. |

08.29.11 | trick is not to get skinny really fast, meaning don't go on one of those stupid diets where u lose 3 stone in a month and then put 4 back on the next month. I'm just going to assume you don't have a problem with your diet but the obvious thing to say is to eat a healthy balanced diet, that in a sense is actually more important than working out regularly. As for working out there are a number of options but id say the best way is by doing something that you enjoy and will keep you coming back. There's no point in doing exercise if you don't enjoy it enough to keep it up. My uncle does 5-10 km bike rides with my cousin, his brother and his brother's son nearly every week which he really enjoys and has kept up for months now. I used to do Tae Kwon Do 2-4 times a week and i did that for 7 years, that kept me fit and healthy enough (as well as keep my weight down but im one of the fortunate ones of having a high metabolism).
So yeah my advice would be to think long term and not short term, keep a good balanced diet and find something you enjoy doing as far as exercise is concerned. There's no point losing all that weight if you are going to put it all back on in 3 weeks.
TL;DR version: I'm probably the only one with a serious response. |

That too. Try to change your diet and incorporate more fruits/veggies/whole grains. Remember, fiber gets you full. Don't just go and lose weight only to gain it back. Keep it off. Make a change. Also, quit soda/sugary drinks. Or have them once in a while. Water is all you need :p |

That with the protein is not necessarily true. It's pretty hard for vegans, yes. But not for vegetarians. There was also something called "gladiator diet" which was vegetarian and worked out for gladiator training, which - as you should know - was pretty hard for your muscles. And as vegetarian there's still cheese, milk and eggs for protein. |

08.30.11 | There are options but they're not really practical. As opposed to eating 200g of chicken breast, how much milk/cheese/lentils would you have to consume to get the same in a meal? Plus the point is a meat eater has all the options of a vegetarian and can still eat meat to put them over the top. I was vegetarian during my childhood but switching to eating meat was the best decision i made for my health.
On a good day as a vegetarian, I'd get about 60g of protein. I can get about 200g now, eating meat, combined with a few cups of milk/day and some supps. Whether or not there's any actual physiological point to consuming that much protein is up for scientific debate but it seems to work for me, especially when bulking. |
