Acanthus 11.18.11	I just watched It's Kind of a Funny Story so it brought it back to my mind. I like scars in general, but the film touches on wrist cutting a bit. It's almost ready to snow here, I love this weather!

Acanthus 11.18.11	Yeah pretty much, ex was that way and it's surprising how many people are turned off/shocked by the relatively benign marks.

Vesper 11.18.11	It depends, for me. I don't mind scars, and they can be quite beautiful, even if they are sad in origin. However, I HAVE seen a girl with severely scarred arms from cutting them over and over on top of each other, turning them into large raised welts. Then it starts to lean towards disturbing and I feel like I should get help. :/
foxblood 11.18.11	i dated someone that barely survived an attempted suicide years before i met her, and seeing the scars of how her body was once so cut up was fucking hard, anything but beautiful also 2 was a pretty good soundtrack
Acanthus 11.18.11	I can definitely see that, and there is a point where, even for me, it turns away from being beautiful. Trying to think of how to describe it... I can't put it succinctly enough here. It's just something there's no need in hiding, something that should never be looked down upon.
Acanthus 11.18.11	@foxblood - 2 was one of the best films I've seen this year, loved it and the OST. It is hard to see the people you love(d) in such a condition, but for me it's beautiful that they're still standing and moving on.

Acanthus 11.18.11	Same, I felt like it was almost a Film Festival movie that got a good budget (the way some of the backstory scenes were handled especially). It was very minimalist compared to all the explosions and such that a lot of movies have been throwing in recently; I liked that immensely.

Vesper 11.18.11	Have you seen Wristcutters: A Love Story before, Acanthus? Also this quote from Girl, Interrupted: "I know what it's like to want to die. How it hurts to smile. How you try to fit in but you can't. How you hurt yourself on the outside to try to kill the thing on the inside." relevant films Also, not quite the same, but I've heard someone describe scarification as reductive art - literally losing pieces of yourself - and I think there is something beautiful in that.
Acanthus 11.18.11	Girl, Interrupted was a good book and has been on my list of films to see for some time, thanks for the reminder and I'll have to check out the other too! I've got a friend (a bit older than I, mid/late 20's) who has had a few scarification pieces done and while it's interesting to see, the plainness of emotional trauma is far more lovely to me. Strangely enough this reads as if I'm really screwed up, weird.
Vesper 11.18.11	The film adaptation is quite good. Easily my favorite role of Angelina Jolie's and my massive 90s crush on Winona Ryder didn't hurt, haha. I'm much more of a tattoo person, so I don't think I'd get any scarification done, especially since I pick up enough on my own as it is! I do have a nice long scar on my tummy from an appendectomy when I was one year old, but I say it's from a knife fight (not really, haha). I don't think you sound screwed up - just have an atypical sense of beauty. :]
Acanthus 11.18.11	It has Winona Ryder in it too!!??!!? Must watch this now, as she's great in most of the earlier roles she had. It's just something that's hard for me to describe, glad it came across better than I thought.

BallsToTheWall 11.18.11	I was never keen on wristcutting. If I decided to end myself prematurely id walk into a snowy forest in a drunken state, find an obscure spot and fall asleep forever.

BallsToTheWall 11.18.11	I find no reason to physically harm myself if I ended up doing the deed but then again I think freezing to death sober would be the best way to go. At least you still have your awareness and can glimpse your surroundings in a proper manner. I wouldn't do this because it's a really selfish thing to do, I don't need to bring this upon my family and close circle of friends. I'm content with being pessimistic and living a foot away from everyone else.

BallsToTheWall 11.18.11	My apathy has really been taking over right now. It seems to be sapping the motivation to do all the things that i've wanted to do and places to go in addition to just walking away from my job/college and never looking back.
Acanthus 11.18.11	I used to have much more apathy than I do now, not sure what happened but it's strange (in a nice way) to care a bit more. On the college front I can completely understand - the need to find a new job has overtaken any and all drive I had for college, I'll not be going back next semester.
