I'm surprised PWEI isn't mentioned more on Sputnik as they were
hugely influential on 90's Electronica. They have worked with
everyone from The Orb to Nine Inch Nails. I present to you PWEI
studio albums ranked at my whim and a few other albums I loved in
my late teens and early twenties.
Hands down no competition one of my top ten albums of the 90's and yet it
goes mostly unnoticed here in the states. Kick to Kill and RSVP were on the
sound track to the then ground breaking video game "Loaded". What was
so special about Loaded? Besides the kill soundtrack that could be played
on a CD player or that the character and level design were bad assed and
creepy. It was bloody as shit two player co-op mayhem and every splatter
of blood and corpse was left right where they fell throughout the entire
stage no matter how much you back tracked. That had never happened
before on a console game that we had played before. This album will
forever be in my collection and I will never stop enjoying listening to it.
Gibby Haynes, Johnny Depp Sal Jenco and Bill Carter. Being a Butthole
Surfers fan and a Johnny Depp fan was all I needed to hunt this slightly
above average album down pre-internet and it was a bitch.
Maniac!, It's way more than that.
It's more specifically "Grebo" PWEI has accents of electronica. They were kind of trip-hop before
there was trip hop with some early rapping, UK garage, Grime etc.
I can see how my description would have caused some misinformation though.
