01.16.13 | zee germans are coming!!
what do you wanna do here? more school? work? play? start a family? |
Wolfhorde
01.16.13 | Live & work. I don't wanna sit around in one country all my life, especially when I prefer English over German and have the opportunity and skills to work/live elsewhere. I mean it might be hassle since the CiC seems to be somewhat demanding but if I wanna get somewhere I'm gonna work until I am there. (biggest problem is probably 'time' because of Bachelor/working experience)
You from Canada, MO? |

01.16.13 | awesome man. good on ya. i also want to work abroad while i'm still young.
hmm, well it depends what sort of work you're looking for really. since you're multi-lingual, I'd consider Ottawa (lots of gov't jobs)... hell, my housemate is German and he's got a sweet job in IT. my brother has lived with quite a few Germans (he's currently living with two) in the mountains of BC, which are really nice. if you've got nothing against french people, Montreal is great. I've never been to the East coast. I've heard Vancouver is pretty great, but really expensive. |

01.16.13 | "warum?"
There's no rational reasoning for this, it's simply a matter of taste for me. Just like I don't like the majority of Pils. Ugh.
@johnny: sounds sweet. Work? Academic, as I said I'm planning to do this as soon as possible after my bachelor/a bit of work probably in the direction of business, more specifically business law or something alike. Are goverment jobs good in Canada? These Germans your brother was/is living with - do they have relatives, are they only temporarily there or did one or all of them immigrate? |
johnnyblaze
01.16.13 | uhmm, ya i'd say gov't jobs are pretty good here. i mean, our current federal government is doing a good job of cutting a lot of unnecessary jobs (despite their disregard for our environment and environmental sciences), but if you've got a skillset that's in demand or if you can land a 4 or 12 month internship they pay relatively well and the benefits are topnotch. since you've got the whole international flair thing going, i'd look into jobs at EDC and DFAIT
I think the German mechanic is an immigrant (or is at least working towards it), cuz i know he plans to stay here. the German girl is here for the Winter to ski and party. |

Germany, duh. Reading comprehension.
"yea bro, born in BC, lived in ottawa all my life"
Swell, so there's one more chill person there.
@johnny: What's EDC or DFAIT? Heh, sounds similar to here - gov't jobs can be pretty swell, especially with benefits/bonuses and such. (and having people who do your paperwork because fuck that shit) Would you be able to specify skillset in demand? |
MetallicOpeth
01.16.13 | "Swell, so there's one more chill person there. "

you're swell in my books too |

01.16.13 | edc - export development canada... i went to school for int'l business and info systems and a lot of the foreign students got hired there. they realllly look favourably upon multi-lingual applicants. if you've got an education in business law
dfait - department of foreign affairs and int'l trade.
i could've worked in gov't, but thankfully, decided not to for a number of reasons... a lot of my college friends were actually laid off in the recent cuts. but ya, if your skillset is demand (aka you can do things most plebs can't....ex: computer sciences, infosec, engineering, etc) you're good to go and you'll get a job in no time. i have no clue what the job market is like for people educated in business law. |
johnnyblaze
01.16.13 | invite me to the pub. i'll roll up a fattie eh |
johnnyblaze
01.16.13 | also, ignore that "if youve got an education in business law" bit hahaha i'm at work and it's nearly quittin time... |
Wolfhorde
01.16.13 | Sounds swell, yeah - pal told me something similar although he said those things and business related stuff in general would be in demand as of now (and probably future) so yeah my original plan was actually law but I have no problems making compromises if it fits my purposes and still stays somewhat true to my career choices. I have also the advantage that I already know a bit about business/econ
Haha, if you're still down for it in some years time then hell yeah. (as I said, biggest 'problem' cause I'll need to do my bachelor and have at least a year work experience if I'm correct) |

01.17.13 | I'm in school at the moment. Will finish it though this summer and plan on studying Maths/Philosophy in Cologne or preferably LA. |
Wolfhorde
01.17.13 | Heh, L.A. sounds nice although that's gonna be quite expensive if you don't have parents/relatives backing you.
I already guessed that you'd go into a direction like this though since you don't seem to have average German English skills. And even people on my school have them and we're supposedly the hardest one in the state. |
ilovetree
01.17.13 | Yeah well, money definitely is a problem. Which is why I'll probably end up staying here for now. Maybe I can go there for like a semester or two, that would be really cool as well. It's not like I actually wanna live in America for the rest of my life. |
Wolfhorde
01.17.13 | Well, you could try to find a university with partners there or similar offers for foreign semesters and such. That actually shouldn't be as much of a problem with your English skills and if you work properly in uni. Probably gonna do something akin myself. |
