|Avantasia: Studio Albums - Best To Worst|
While Power Metal may sometimes sound like a cheesy and "popish" metal genre, one can't deny that the genre has provided metal with some of the greatest albums in the realm of the genre. One band that manages to bring together some of power metals biggest stars (as well as other well known faces of rock and metal) and produce a handful of albums, is Avantasia by Edguy frontman Tobias Sammet. This list is made to show what I think is the greatest Avantasia album, and which one should be buried together with St. Anger (Metallica), Risk (Megadeth), and No Prayer For The Dying (Iron Maiden).
The Metal Opera
Avantasia's first album is also their best. Songs such as Prelude/Reach Out For The Light, Serpents In Paradise, The Glory Of Rome, Sign Of The Cross, and The Tower is some of the genres most powerful songs. Tobias Sammet is in top form, and with help from voices such as Michael Kiske and David DeFeis, this album ranks high among my favorite metal albums.
The Wicked Symphony
The second album in The Wicked Triology which started with The Scarecrow and ended with Angel Of Babylon. A great album that blends power metal and traditional metal perfect. The title track, Wastelands, Scales Of Justice, Runaway Train, and Forever Is A Long Time are classics within their genre.
The Metal Opera Pt. II
The second Metal Opera album. A bit more fillers here than the other two, but still a great album. Highlights are The Seven Angels, No Return, The Final Sacrifice, and Memory.
With this album, Avantasia starts to become what people might call stupid, cheesy, and for the haters, gay. Songs such as Carry Me Over, What Kind Of Love, Cry Just A Little, and Lost In Space are outright bad and should be banished from the face of the Earth.
Angel of Babylon
Avantasia's latest album is also their worst. Fewer ballads than on The Scarecrow but more fillers. Your Love Is Evil, Down In The Dark, Blowing Out The Flame, Symphony Of Life, and Alone I Remember is REALLY bad. Sorry guys, but this album is incredibly bad, and is only saved by Stargazers and the title track from being rated 1 or 1.5.
