08.31.10 | Notice anything, Sputnik Sheep? |
Counterfeit
08.31.10 | Fuck yeah 9. inb4 Thrice comments. and wtf needs La Dispute. |
eternium
08.31.10 | I noticed that it lacks Thrice. Excellent nonetheless. |
fromtheinside
08.31.10 | jawbox hell yeah. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | No, it doesn't. |
BigHans
08.31.10 | The? Im guessing this is top Post Hardcore albums ranked? |
BigHans
08.31.10 | OH, I see its changed.
Why do you have Repeater over `13 songs?
And where the fuck is WATCH OUT! |
BigHans
08.31.10 | And what is 9 doing on here? |
Counterfeit
08.31.10 | pfft. whatevs |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | You know there's an edit button underneath all of your comments? |
crazyblinddude
08.31.10 | I'm sure sputnik will say there's something missing (they always do), but this is a great list. Cool to see someone who likes 8. |
eternium
08.31.10 | All of the really good Fugazi albums are essential. 13 Songs, Repeater, End Hits, Red Medicine, and The Argument mainly. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | I'm expecting heaps upon heaps of Emery and La Dispute fanboys crying tonight after seeing this list. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | I agree Eternium, I was just trying to keep it to one album per band. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | The reason nine is on here is because it straddles the line, and it leans towards post-hardcore 90% of the time. |
BigHans
08.31.10 | I was asking about 13 songs because I thought you once said it was your 3rd favorite album of all time. And seriously, WATCH OUT! |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | ^ Agreed @eternium, although I do love Repeater the most to be honest. I respect that you have 1, but I like Thrice, ATDI, and Refused more. Took what Fugazi did and expanded it 10,000 fold. |
fromtheinside
08.31.10 | i prefer the argument, but whatever cause this has jawwwboooxxx |
Counterfeit
08.31.10 | You know there's an edit button underneath all your comments?
Also, I refuse to cry. |
BigHans
08.31.10 | The reason nine is on here is because it straddles the line, and it leans towards post-hardcore 90% of the time.
^ Well, it doesn't happen every day, but I literally did not know that. |
eternium
08.31.10 | La Dispute is fucking great, but not a "must have." I have exactly half of these. Still need to get Poison the Well. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | That wasn't meant for you, Feit. That was meant for hans.
13 Songs is my favorite from Fugazi, but it's not an album. It's a compilation. |
Counterfeit
08.31.10 | I know, but you had 3 comments in a row. |
Inveigh
08.31.10 | I've always thought of Helmet as metal, but I can see similarities to early Fugazi type post-hardcore. Same deal with 2, I've always just thought of it as punk.
but excellent list nonetheless. only band it really 'needs' is The Nation of Ulysses. |
PuddlesPuddles
08.31.10 | Props for 5 intothepit
I hope one day you can get out |
BigHans
08.31.10 | I need to listen to 5 again. Head to Wall rules hard. |
FruityCatOfDoom
08.31.10 | if i see worship and tribute in another post hardcore list. imma fucking shoot a school bus full of little niggers |
PuddlesPuddles
08.31.10 | shut up fruity cat of doom, i personally love milk duds |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | ^ Whoa racism
and it is a great album that changed the genre. It has the right to be in every Post-Hardcore list. Just sayin' |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Worship and Tribute didn't change anything. It's a great album and deserves a spot, but what did it change? Lol |
NeutralThunder12
08.31.10 | thank god there's no thrice on here |
sniper01
08.31.10 | Except In/Casino/Out is betterrrrr |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Please tell me you are joking. You are joking, right? |
Inveigh
08.31.10 | all the AtD-I albums rule (including Vaya) but Relationship is clearly the best |
eternium
08.31.10 | Relationship is best. |
sniper01
08.31.10 | No dude In/Casino/Out is definitely better. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Sniper, I like you, but what are you taking right now? What pills did you steal from mommy and daddy's medicine cabinet? |
eternium
08.31.10 | Meth. |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | Whoa, I have never met anyone who preferred any other ATDI album over RoC. Worship and Tribute helped bring Post-Hardcore into the mainstream which led to it's ruin. Didn't say they changed it in a good way, although still a great album. |
Inveigh
08.31.10 | sniper's always liked I/C/O best -- he backs up his opinion pretty well in his review, I will say that. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | I thought it might be some Red Medicine. |
eternium
08.31.10 | har har |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | "Whoa, I have never met anyone who preferred any other ATDI album over RoC. Worship and Tribute helped bring Post-Hardcore into the mainstream which led to it's ruin. Didn't say they changed it in a good way, although still a great album."
No, it didn't. You're forgetting about Fugazi, ATDI, Refused, and Helmet, and they all came out before Worship and Tribute. |
sniper01
08.31.10 | Dude it's just the better album to me. RoC was just a little bit too clean and shiny for for me, I/C/O represents this perfect sweet spot for the band where they were writing the same quality of songs they were by RoC, but there was still an element of roughness that was missing on Relationship. I mean, every track is fucking flawless apart from For Now... We Toast. It's just perrrfect. |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | "Whoa, I have never met anyone who preferred any other ATDI album over RoC. Worship and Tribute helped bring Post-Hardcore into the mainstream which led to it's ruin. Didn't say they changed it in a good way, although still a great album."
Yeah but it boosted it even more and into a poppier level. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | You're right, every track is flawless on that except For Now... We Toast, while EVERY SINGLE TRACK on RoC is ace. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Legend, you gonna keep changing your reasoning until you find one that works for everyone? |
eternium
08.31.10 | He's going to be a politician. |
sniper01
08.31.10 | I have RoC at a 4.5, so obv I really love it, but I tend to space out during tracks like Sleepwalk Capsules and Mannequin Republic. I/C/O just keeps fucking throwing down the whole time. |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | Wait what? I haven't changed my reasoning at all. If I wanted to do that I would have said you are completely right. You are right about those bands helping, but the album gave the genre an extra boost into the mainstream, as it was already increasing at a dramatic rate. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Yeah, you did. First you said it changed the genre. After my rebuttal, you then said it brought it into the mainstream. After my next rebuttal, you came back and said it "boosted" it even more and into a "poppier" level. Which one is it, dude? |
eternium
08.31.10 | Not very mainstream, since I don't know anybody who knows Glassjaw. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Eternium is correct. I'm in the same boat. I do, however, know plenty of people who know Fugazi, ATDI, Helmet, Husker Du, and so on. |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | I meant changed the genre as in brought it more into mainstream by being poppier. Sorry I should have worded my first argument better. See I am slightly socially awkward which leads to my arguments and descriptions not exactly the way I type it although I am trying to improve. |
sniper01
08.31.10 | It was def thrice who made it mainstream for real, js. |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | Other bands stole their sound and got popular on it though. Which is why it boosted the genre even more into mainstream. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | I'm going to find you and throw up on you for that comment, Sniper. |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | Thrice, Thursday, and Glassjaw are the reason. |
Apollo
08.31.10 | good list here |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | so is Texas. lol |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | "Other bands stole their sound and got popular on it though. Which is why it boosted the genre even more into mainstream."
Name one. |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | Silverstein and Alexisonfire clearly ripped off all 3 of the above mentioned. |
eternium
08.31.10 | I love how Sputnik considers bands mainstream that nobody that I know in person listens to or even knows. I only know a handful of Thrice fans. I've only met two people who really listen to lesser known stuff and one girl who listens to some underground, but still mostly shit like Parkway Drive. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | I'm sorry, Legend, but I have to strip you of your post-hardcore credentials. You can apply again next month. |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | Lol I just suck at arguing. I can't explain opinions plus I never had any musically inclined friends to argue with. I still won't believe that Worship and Tribute didn't do any change what so ever though. |
Masochist
08.31.10 | Half the people I work with are Thrice and/or Brand New fans...or if not "fans," listen to and like their music. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Is it that you suck at arguing(which I don't believe you do) or is it that you are really making a stretch that doesn't make sense? |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | Oh well thank you, because I believe I do suck. Yeah I am just making excuses. lol |
WoggleBunny
08.31.10 | Anyone else notice Billy Talent stealing At the Drive-In riffs? Just sayin. |
porch
08.31.10 | "I like Thrice, ATDI, and Refused more. Took what Fugazi did and expanded it 10,000 fold"
lol shut the fuck up.
sweet list. |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | ^ I didn't say I didn't like Fugazi. I have so much respect for the guys, but I find it easier for me to get into the bands said above. All my opinion of course. |
porch
08.31.10 | sure, I was just referring to the 'expanded it 10,000 fold' part, which is both ridiculous and wrong
on so many levels |
LegendofPittman
08.31.10 | That's just me over-exaggerating. |
Ire
08.31.10 | blood brothers? |
eternium
08.31.10 | Fugazi is easily the most important and influential post-hardcore band, so of course they took at least part of what Fugazi did and mixed it with whatever else they wanted to do. |
porch
08.31.10 | Really though, the post hardcore genre is so vague that you could put so many different types of bands that people wouldnt associate with post hardcore on this list and people couldn't really question their inclusion |
elephantREVOLUTION
08.31.10 | JACOBI WICHITA, A LOT LIKE BIRDS, LA FUCKING DISPUTE |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | La Dispute is definitely NOT a must have, dumbass |
SeaAnemone
08.31.10 | even though I wouldn't consider a handful of this post-hardcore, most of it is ace.
buttttt...
Emery's best LP could be post-hardcore's finest ever! The album of 2009. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | I'd rather choke myself with Bob Sapp's dick then call that the best of post-hardcore. |
SeaAnemone
08.31.10 | you know I'm kidding, right? I hope?
|
Lappo
08.31.10 | where da gospel at |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | I know you're kidding, Sea. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | In the church, now shut the fuck up |
SeaAnemone
08.31.10 | and Gospel's great but screamo. pretty clear-cut there |
Lappo
08.31.10 | imo, post-hardcore includes screamo |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Which ones don't you agree with being on here, Sea? I know some of them straddle the line, but they lean far enough to be considered "post-hardcore." |
SeaAnemone
08.31.10 | and I'm sorry, this list is good but it comes nowhere near Porches:
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=435821 |
Ire
08.31.10 | "Emery's best LP could be post-hardcore's finest ever! The album of 2009."
lol'd at this :) |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | If I wanted to make it 50 albums long, it would have included probably 48 of those, but I didn't feel like going that far with it. |
SeaAnemone
08.31.10 | and sorry bro, but a few of these are much much more emo... like quintessential emo... SDRE, Promise Ring, Cursive, TITR are in this category. Refused is hardcore, I thought. Embrace and Rites of Spring are questionable, but passable as post-hardcore. |
SeaAnemone
08.31.10 | and yeah, totally understandable... looking back this list is fantastic... I was just a little disappointed you put in stuff like Glassjaw over stuff like Armchairpolitician and Unwound |
ShyGuy
08.31.10 | Husker du, soooooo good |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Refused is nowhere near hardcore, if we're going by traditional standards. And if Embrace and Rites of Spring are passable, as you say, so is Promise Ring, Cursive(how is that emo, dude?), Sunny Day Real Estate(I get your argument on that one), and Texas is the Reason. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Unwound and Armchairpolitician are amazing, but are they must haves? I don't believe so. |
SeaAnemone
08.31.10 | Embrace and Rites of Spring are totally totally different waves of emo and post-hardcore than the others. and I'll give you Cursive, on second thought you're probably right, that's more post-hardcore than anything. And I'm nowhere near a Refused expert, admittedly, that's just what I hear, you may be right. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | I'm right, don't worry about confirming that. |
SeaAnemone
08.31.10 | but yeah, SDRE Promise Ring and TITR are all quintessential emo I thought... a shoot-off of post-hardcore, yes; but emo really turned into it's own branch, a totally different sound, by then |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Then by that standard, I need to remove Embrace and Rites of Spring, maybe even Quicksand.
I'm not gonna do that, I'm js. |
SeaAnemone
08.31.10 | no, Embrace and RoS were much earlier than those other ones... that wave of emo kinda formed alongside SDRE in the mid-90's |
Deviant.
08.31.10 | I know I say this a lot, but: Boysetsfire - After The Eulogy
Where is it? |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Not here |
eternium
08.31.10 | How the hell is Refused "nowhere near hardcore"? |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | By traditional standards, they aren't at all. Refused aren't hardcore. Sorry guys. |
Deviant.
08.31.10 | "Not here"

Intothepit
08.31.10 | Yeah, I did. You asked where is it, and I said not here. |

08.31.10 | Try Itunes, or maybe your nearest record store. Or you could illegally download it. It's up to you!
Comatorium- Once again, no it doesn't. It doesn't TOUCH any of these, regardless of what the Sputnik La Dispute fanboy population tells me. |
Slum
08.31.10 | You're too sweet. |
SeaAnemone
08.31.10 | Pit, we agree that La Dispute is glorified over much higher quality bands... but Sputnik could and does do a lot lot lot lot worse worshiping |
Deviant.
08.31.10 | Tbh, I don't really see the appeal of La Dispute
Pit, what'd you think of After The Eulogy? (if you've heard it of course) |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Oh, they do. |
bringonthebreakdown
08.31.10 | yeah this is lacking in a lot of great bands tbh |
bringonthebreakdown
08.31.10 | i mean it has a lot of really great ones too but uh...
no thrice, thursday, etc.
and i love rites of spring, but i wouldn't really call that post-hardcore, nor sdre. |
jesusjuice1179
08.31.10 | can we not do these genre disputable lists anymore, can we just say its all good music? |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | ANd once again, bringonthebreakdown proves why his opinion isn't valued.
At all. |
bringonthebreakdown
08.31.10 | pit i really couldn't give two shits and a fuck who values my opinon on the internet, especially if you come into question. i was making discussion. |

Intothepit
08.31.10 | Weren't you the one that was telling me the new Acacia Strain was hardcore? |
Transient
08.31.10 | decent list and i wasn't going to argue about la dispute not being on here, but polar bear club? really? you come before you isn't even post-hardcore and thrice's the illusion of safety is essential.
so yeah, you're bad. |
patroneyes
08.31.10 | acrobatic tenement > roc |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | And you're an idiot. If anything, illusion of safety is punk.
Polar Bear Club's The Redder, the Better is much more solid than any la dispute record.
You Come Before You was a post-hardcore release from a metalcore band. Get over it. That's in no way hardcore, nor is it metal, nor is it metalcore. |
Counterfeit
08.31.10 | Pit, do this with hardcore too. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | I've done this with hardcore already. |
Counterfeit
08.31.10 | which of your many alts? |
bringonthebreakdown
08.31.10 | i didn't tell you the acacia strain was hardcore. i told you it wasn't deathcore because there are no death metal influences in it for it to be death anything. which is apparently a retarded argument? but i'm not worried about that. i'm just telling you you missed some albums and that sdre isn't post-hardcore and apparently that makes me stupid. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | Okay, I'll do it. |
Intothepit
08.31.10 | "i didn't tell you the acacia strain was hardcore. i told you it wasn't deathcore because there are no death metal influences in it for it to be death anything. which is apparently a retarded argument? but i'm not worried about that. i'm just telling you you missed some albums and that sdre isn't post-hardcore and apparently that makes me stupid."
No, what makes you stupid is that your stupid. Plus that god-awful name. |
