09.08.12 | We're destructive little fuckers, aren't we?
|
climactic
09.08.12 | yes
need to start some discussion here. changing list name |

Funeralopolis
09.08.12 | this is one of the most awesome things i have ever read |
ViperAces
09.08.12 | Whats so crazy bout 2062? |
climactic
09.08.12 | nanofabricators using data to create real objects. 2190 is an even crazier version |
jdennis31
09.08.12 | hard to get into science/technology when all the benefits won't really affect us too much. |
Maniac!
09.08.12 | "hard to get into science/technology when all the benefits won't really affect us too much."
What the fuck are you talking about? |
FadeToBlack
09.08.12 | this is probably going to turn into a religion debate js |
jdennis31
09.08.12 | "What the fuck are you talking about?" i'm talking about being 73 years old by the time 2062 comes around. all these great amazing scientific discoveries don't mean much to me as an individual. any great technological advances within my lifetime will more than likely not be affordable. that's what i'm talking about? |
jdennis31
09.08.12 | thinkin more big picture i guess. self navigating cars, jetpacks, etc... |
ViperAces
09.08.12 | End of the universe seems legit. |
Maniac!
09.08.12 | Dude, the stuff that can possibly come in the next 20 years is cool as shit. |
fsharptrit0ne
09.08.12 | virtual reality |
Maniac!
09.08.12 | All this is kickass... except... ya'know... the world's economics and politics falling apart... |
fsharptrit0ne
09.08.12 | unfortunately has to happen |
jdennis31
09.08.12 | well i know that the google car thing has like 400k miles on it, but how long before it's mass produced, then how long before it becomes affordable to the average person? just don't see the point of even thinkin about it til it's there for me to buy and use, since it might or might not happen. not saying science or technology is a waste of time, just hard for me to get into and excited about |
FadeToBlack
09.08.12 | anyway this is all kind of assuming we don't end up firing nukes at each other like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZMwKPmsbWE&feature=player_embedded |
fsharptrit0ne
09.08.12 | interesting to see religion disappearing by 2090 |
NoMeansYes
09.08.12 | This was captivating, yet extremely depressing. Truth is it's all (educated) speculation. No one knows anything for certain |
Funeralopolis
09.08.12 | the whole over population, food becoming scarce, super hurricanes and most of the world's animals going extinct is pretty damn scary. |
eternium
09.08.12 | Fuck yeah climate change. |
climactic
09.08.12 | i think that the most insane part of all this speculation is humans and computers becoming one in merely the next couple hundred years |
FadeToBlack
09.08.12 | i don't think that's that hard to believe, we've already made quite some headway on organic chips and
computers. i mean at the rate at which electronic computers developed, we could easily be seeing
organic ones up to our current standard in the next 40-50 years |
Scoot
09.08.12 | simultaneously one of the most intriguing and depressing sites i've ever seen
most of us will be dead by 2080-90 but who knows, human life could be drastically extended by that point. the thing about AI being more than a billion times smarter than the most intelligent human really hit home |
jdennis31
09.08.12 | does anybody else think that trying to eliminate traffic would be one of the greatest benefits to mankind? it would improve almost every aspect of your life and the world as a whole would run more efficiently. |
jdennis31
09.08.12 | "human life could be drastically extended by that point." who the hell wants to be 80 anyways |
Scoot
09.08.12 | in the 2080s it says 100 year olds will be able to appear and live like 30 year olds
|
climactic
09.08.12 | by the time we're old theres a good chance they will hve the technology to stop the aging process, or reverse it. as well as cures to most diseases |
jdennis31
09.08.12 | yea, but it still seems like a long time to live before you get really bored with life |
fsharptrit0ne
09.08.12 | chocolate being a luxury and expensive as caviar by 2030 is insane |
Scoot
09.08.12 | we'll all be horrified at what society has turned into. future generations won't know anything different |
FadeToBlack
09.08.12 | yeah, in all honestly who actually wants to live forever? |
ReturnOfTheDnor
09.08.12 | God I have to wait until 2240 before people realize how dumb Christianity is??? |
Scoot
09.08.12 | yeah none of us will even want to live past 2100 anyways. there's going to be huge resource crises |
climactic
09.08.12 | i wouldnt want to live FOREVER but being alive for some of this stuff would be pretty freakin amazing |
FadeToBlack
09.08.12 | i suppose that would be pretty cool. fortunately there'll always be suicide if i got fed up |
Lenix
09.08.12 | This is sweet |
Lenix
09.08.12 | "Launch of the PS4 and Xbox 720"
I seriously hope this isn't what they're going to be called. But then again, what would they be called... |
climactic
09.08.12 | the part about "super-cities" is really cool, forget where it is, but streets and buildings will be self-cleaning and have integrated virtual reality |
jdennis31
09.08.12 | @lenix think those are the working titles atm. @climactic seems like that'd be taking away a lot of jobs. are there more homeless folk in the future predictions? |
Oceanus
09.08.12 | Site kind of rules. |
Lenix
09.08.12 | I know this is hypothetical and all, but a lot of this seems to move really really fast, ya know? |
Lenix
09.08.12 | "Chocolate has become a rare luxury"
This one makes me very depressed. brb gonna get some choc |
ConcubinaryCode
09.08.12 | I mean what else would they call the next playstation? @jdennis |
NoMeansYes
09.08.12 | PS3.5 |
ConcubinaryCode
09.08.12 | That's silly |
NoMeansYes
09.08.12 | Apple iPlayStation? |
jdennis31
09.08.12 | hahaha @nomeansyes @concubinarycode i have no idea, i just read that it was a working title when they first announced that. ps4 works but xbox720 just sounds lame |
ConcubinaryCode
09.08.12 | I heard it was going to be called NeXtbox but that's also lame. I'd be interested to see apple make a gaming console. |
NoMeansYes
09.08.12 | I want a megadrive/genesis 3. An apple console would integrate with all of their devices, it would be like a huge central entertainment hub |
wacknizzle
09.08.12 | we need to stop pursuing fossil fuels but the government just won't quit because they won't be able make as much money using alternate sources such as hydrogen fuel cells. jet technology should be fading out by now, scientist need to develop a new way of flight because it's sad that we can hardly even get to Mars when even the closest star is billions of lightyears, billions of years at the speed of light just to get out of our neighborhood. we should be working towards anti-gravity propulsion possibly using dark matter as fuel. we shouldn't even have factories on our planet, it's ruining our air and killing us and destroying the environment at an increasingly alarming rate. factory farming is really bad for the environment and is a contribution to global warming as well as being inefficient and bad for the economy and making it hard for local small farmers to make ends meet even though it would make way more sense for grocers to buy from locally grown organic plants and vegetables and free range livestock. our society lost the way when all we became focused on was capitalism, greed, and big business. it doesn't have to be this way they just wanted it all for themselves and by now they have proven to the world that the system failed. |
klap
09.08.12 | this is cool but no different from reading a sci-fi book |
ILJ
09.08.12 | Some of these things are entirely plausible, but a hotel in space by 2016? Nigga please. |
climactic
09.09.12 | well rudy lots of this stuff is based off trends in the advancement of technology (like moores law), depletion of resources, population, etc, so id say it has a lot more reasoning behind it than a sci fi book |
Relinquished
09.09.12 | if you live forever there's always the chance of alzheimer's |
climactic
09.09.12 | we will probably see a cure for alzeimers this century |
klap
09.09.12 | hey HARD sci-fi climactic, hard sci fi :0 |
climactic
09.09.12 | yeah yeah. well the site does say some of the stuff is fictitious. still a cool read. makes you think about how "primitive" our technology today still is. we've only scratched the surface of computer science |
