11.11.12 | I enjoy gravity falls sometimes, reminds me of 90s shows |

11.11.12 | note i'm referring to adventure time and regular show as great, ain't got no fucking clue what these totoros and zeldas are. |

11.12.12 | adventure time is a worthy successor to invader zim imo |
Trebor.
11.12.12 | My Neighbor Totoro is a 1988 animated film directed by Hayao Miyazaki
Totoro has gone on to be a cultural symbol in Japan, he's all over the fucking place even though he's barely in the movie and is more of a metaphor or some shit
He also appeared in Toy Story 3 so yeah |
Trebor.
11.12.12 | Compared Adventure Time to Invader Zim oh my god no |

11.12.12 | Totoro is a legend! |
Trebor.
11.12.12 | Good point, I do agree that it's the least worst kids show in a long while |
cuki92
11.12.12 | Him and the Cat Bus are apparently the bringers of death. Dark shit really.. |
foxblood
11.12.12 | adventure time has really good voice acting/animation which can be said for basically no other cartoons at the moment |
Trebor.
11.12.12 | I always thought of Tororo as the false comfort of running away from your problems and fears |
BallsToTheWall
11.12.12 | Regular Show 3.6/5 |
cuki92
11.12.12 | I read a theory once about Totoro being the angel of death. I know most theories are over the top or just complete fails but I found it pretty interesting at the time. There's something here: http://ghibli.livejournal.com/316492.html
Its weird but it's not BEN/creepy pasta/Majora's Mask weird.. |

11.12.12 | Adventure Time: 4/5

11.12.12 | Zelda scores a little low dude |
YoYoMancuso
11.12.12 | Adventure Time was ruined for me by all the stupid teenage girls who think they're so quirky and cool because they watch it
still a good show though |
mindleviticus
11.12.12 | totoro - ?
Do you mean "My Neighbor Totoro" the Miyazaki film? |
toxin.
11.12.12 | Adventure Time rules
Totoro rules
Zelda rules
Never heard of Regular Show.
Although if we're talking Miyazaki, Mononoke = Spirited Away (different charms---I'd go as far as to
say Spirited Away is more brilliant and more subtle about its rich themes but overall I can't choose
one) > Totoro = Nausicaa > rest (most of which is also great)
And yeah, the theory that Totoro is the angel of death makes a lot of sense. I like interpreting it
that way |
cuki92
11.12.12 | Some total cunts like Adventure Time which soured it for me a little (shallow+petty I know)
And I have to re-watch Invader Zim!
And what is it about Spirited Away that people love? I've always prefered Nausicaa, Mononoke, The Cat Returns and obviously Totoro. Is it just because of the money it made and its popularity? OR do people look deeper into it and watch it as the rumours say, the girl is a prostitute etc. which adds more layers to a simple film? Needs a rewatch also! |
cuki92
11.12.12 | And Regular Show is worth a watch man. You know who says Regular Show is worth a watch also? My momm! |
Dolving999
11.12.12 | Cartoon Network older shows are so much better.
From the top of my head:
Ed, Edd & Eddy
The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy
Evil Con Carne
Samurai Jack
Courage The Cowardly Dog
Dexter's Laboratory
Fuck, even PowerPuff Girls got more giggles out of me than any of these new shows. |
ChopSuey
11.12.12 | "Cartoon Network older shows are so much better."
true, but maybe its cause you got older or something.Regular show is pretty good though |
Dolving999
11.12.12 | I kinda watch Regular Show sometimes, don't get me wrong, and it doesn't suck at all. What happens is that all those posts on tumblr by teenage girls with images of the show and all the fluffy captions probably made it appear way worse than it actually is. |
ChopSuey
11.12.12 | yeah, fangirls ruin everything! |
demigod!
11.12.12 | yeah adventure time rules. i've seen a few regular show episodes, its pretty great as well.
and yeah, the old Cartoon Network shows are fantastic: Ed Edd n Eddy, Dexters Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack... good shit. But that doesnt change the fact that Adventue Time is one of the best cartoons ever. |
DotEight
11.12.12 | I'll stick the old days of DBZ on Toonami. I literally could not wait to get home from school to watch it. |

11.12.12 | All of CN newer shows are just fucking weird, I'd have to be high / drunk to watch them. I miss the days of Dexter's Lab, Ed, Edd n' Eddy, etc. |

Adventure Time and regular Show are the only things worth watching on CN but nothing could touch the golden age. Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Space Ghost etc. Angela Anaconda or DBZ anyone?? |

11.12.12 | Both Regular Show and Adventure Time are great shows, especially compared to the unholy dog shit Cartoon Network has been vomiting out for the past few years. Adventure Time made me straight up CRY the last time I watched it (the episode with Marceline and Ice King jammin' out and making tunes together). The Amazing World of Gumball is pretty great too, sometimes. On the Sputnik Scale, it would be more of a 3-3.5 compared to AT's/RS's solid 4.5s |

11.12.12 | Adventure Time and Regular Show are great. Fact.

11.13.12 | Fuck the Annoying Orange. Although were are all hating on it because it is annoying so I guess it's doing it's job :/ still, fuck that shit!
Anyone got any opinions on Gumball? Which is also on Cartoon Network. I thought it was class the first few times but it gets a little stale after awhile. Character designs are great but it's possibly a little too kiddy |
4N4LB34D5
11.13.12 | YES! Gumball is definitely more on the kiddy side of the spectrum, but the whole look of the show (characters, backgrounds, etc.) is so awesome and unique it kind of makes up for it. Plus, it still has the occasional holy-fuck-this-show-is-insane moment, like when Gumball gets possessed by that ghost girl and he goes on that ridiculous first-person eating rampage. I actually cried from laughter when I saw that part. It has the potential to be on the level of AT & RS, its just a matter of what direction the creative team behind the show wants to go with it |

11.13.12 | I totally agree man! |

11.14.12 | "And what is it about Spirited Away that people love? I've always prefered Nausicaa, Mononoke, The Cat Returns and obviously Totoro. Is it just because of the money it made and its popularity?"
???
First, there's the surface-level enjoyment of watching an Alice in Wonderland-esque journey of a young girl through a strange, fantastical world. I think that's as far as you got. But beyond that, it's so rich in themes that it feels closer to literature than junk fiction. I think Sparknotes has a pretty good summary of what makes Spirited Away so special and sets it apart from most other modern films.
I guess in this regard, what makes Spirited Away superior to Mononoke and Nausicaa is the environmentalist themes of all three films. The latter two are pretty obvious about these themes, but Spirited Away is much, much more subtle and nuanced. Just pay attention to how nature is treated in Spirited Away---Haku's river was paved over, the river god was filthy (water pollution), there is the capitalistic land waste of the abandoned amusement park.
How about the criticism of modern consumerism a la Brave New World? Chihiro's parents are guilty of extravagant (and Americanized) consumerism---"don't worry honey, daddy's got cash and credit cards!" (or however the line go). The members in the bathhouse are so concerned with money that they don't notice that a comrade is missing (the frog) and that they've created a money.
That's why I love Spirited Away so much. I really enjoy the surface-level story, where we're just watching Chihiro save her parents and get out of the spirit world, but the movie is so much more than that. |

11.14.12 | no problem! It was my favorite movie when I was like 10 and it came out, and I'm happy that at least one thing from my childhood has held up to a rather critical 18 year old me. I'm always happy to sing its praises |
