The Best Albums Of 2008

These are the albums I found to be the strongest in the year 2008.
10Ayreon
01011001

While overly long, even by concept album standards, "01011001" is a marvel of a record, with some of the most challenging prog out on the market.
9Porcupine Tree
We Lost the Skyline

PT performing many of their classics in an acoustic setting, providing some excellent results.
8Demon Hunter
45 Days

A wild departure from their ordinary metalcore, "45 Days" is a minutely beautiful post-rock record.
7 Zappa Plays Zappa
Zappa Plays Zappa

A fantastic live tribute album, "ZPZ" showcases some of Frank's best, including excellent covers of "Peaches en Regalia," "I'm the Slime," and "The Torture Never Stops."
6Russian Circles
Station

A fantastic post-metal record, filled with hook-driven riffs, such as the Viking metal dirge found on the title track.
5 Sunn O)))
D?mkirke

Perhaps the most unique live album I've ever heard, "Domkirke" is a revelation, highlighted by an outstanding vocal performance on the track "Why Dost Thou Hide Thyself in Clouds?"
4No-Man
Schoolyard Ghosts

An unusually optimistic record for the band, "Schoolyard Ghosts" features some of the band's most beautiful work.
3Opeth
Watershed

Opeth mixes the heavy and the melodic beautifully on this recording; "Hessian Peel" is one of the band's best, and creative jams like "The Lotus Eater" show Opeth have a few tricks up their sleeve.
2 Earth
The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull

Earth's strongest recording, "Bees" is a beautifully repetitive record, full of hypnotic music that is sure to captivate anyone willing to listen.
1Steven Wilson
Insurgentes

A culmination of all of Wilson's projects, "Insurgentes" blends post-rock, metal, ambient, drone, noise, and beautiful balladry into an album that stands alone as a work of art.
