10.29.11 | Soul music refers to a lot of classic 60s-70s R&B as soul is basically R&B with tinges of political duress and gospel influence but more bouncy. All those artist I listed are generally considered "Soul" while you could look at more contemporary artists (i.e. Tina Turner, Luther, R. Kelly) as R&B but really Soul music is a form of R&B and really people just started to use the term to refer to motown-ish tunes in the 60s. |
