Do Not Go DJENTLY - LOL. Ok I love this band but this song sucks. Basically should've been called Animals as Periphery. Listen to the beginning of this and then Periphery's "Icarus Lives", they're total bros. |
24 | | Animals As Leaders Animals as Leaders
Modern Meat - It's cool I guess. For some reason it reminds me of someone farting. Yea don't ask. |
23 | | Animals As Leaders Weightless
Espera - The intro sounds like the music during the pause screen for the game Dead Island (which ruled), nice background music for sure. Electronics aren't anything special in this. |
22 | | Animals As Leaders Weightless
David - I just really dig this one. Sounds like something that would come off the self-titled. |
21 | | Animals As Leaders Animals as Leaders
Song of Solomon - In before "THIS SHOULD BE HIGHER!!". It's a good song no doubt, but one of the only ones I never really bother with too often. |
20 | | Animals As Leaders Animals as Leaders
Tessitura - A nice little guitar piece from Tosin, nothing more, nothing less. |
19 | | Animals As Leaders Weightless
To Lead You to an Overwhelming Question - I'm almost tempted to say "this song thrashes hard!!" cause the whole thing is just a blistering whirlwind of craziness which never really lets up until you realize just how mindfucked you are. |
18 | | Animals As Leaders Animals as Leaders
On Impulse - Very nice tune bringing you to many different places at once and keeps a very cool lightness throughout it's duration. Great soloing and leads from Tosin as usual. |
17 | | Animals As Leaders Weightless
An Infinite Regression - This would probably be alot higher if not for the middle section electronic/drum chug segment which, I don't really mind now, but threw me off hard when I first heard it and will always continue to do so. Tosin hits beast mode to start off the album which is always a plus. |
16 | | Animals As Leaders Weightless
New Eden - Holy shit if they would've made an entire slow tune out of the first minute twenty of this song it could've been the best on the album. A nice Tosin solo weaves it's way through a solid chugging pattern which doesn't seem like much until you try and air drum what Navene's doing. He really picked up his game from when he first joined. Awesome little tune. |
15 | | Animals As Leaders Weightless
Odessa - I actually really dig the intro electonic section, awesome stuff. Good leads into some solid chugs, hitting a high during an electronic interlude/who's the boss riff. |
14 | | Animals As Leaders Wave of Babies single
Wave of Babies - A very heavy tune sporting some great trademark licks from Tosin and some cool funk. Lots of solid heaviness and a whack ass chug pattern towards the end. |
13 | | Animals As Leaders Animals as Leaders
Thoroughly at Home - A total ball buster to say the least. This song is just like "hey get ready to be punched in the face". Before laying off, continuing, laying off and pounding you out to finish. Basically the musical manifestation of an MMA fight. |
12 | | Animals As Leaders Weightless
Cylindrical Sea - Lead by a nice jazzy feel with jazz drums to boot this tune is just straight fun, nothing more nothing less. Tosin's solos in this are extremely melodic and I personally think the "chorus" solo bridge thing whatever the shit it's called cause I know nothing about guitar part is one of the fastest he's ever played. |
11 | | Animals As Leaders Animals as Leaders
Inamorata - Starts off similar to CAFO with a nice janitor pattern before just exploding into a myriad of riffs and solos which interweave so many times it makes your head spin. Halfway through it breaks into a very nice atmospheric section which just kicks so much ass. |
10 | | Animals As Leaders Animals as Leaders
Soraya - A nice chill song with some of Tosin's most beautiful guitar work. Use this song to serenade a chick into your pants, cause I'm sure that's why Tosin wrote it. |
9 | | Animals As Leaders Animals as Leaders
Point to Point - AAL's best short song. It just sounds like something that Tosin wrote on a whim straight from the heart. It mixes the heaviness of Djent with melody so damn well it's a crime. A perfect 8 string softy. |
8 | | Animals As Leaders Weightless
Weightless - This album closer has alot going on and contains many a great passage. A nice slide guitar segment leading into the final djenty overture is just one of many that makes this song really special. Oh and Navene is a beast on this song. |
7 | | Animals As Leaders Weightless
Isolated Incidents - The song starts out innocently enough, some nice finger picking/strumming from the duo and a solid djent/solo section to follow. That is before it explodes into arguably the heaviest this band has ever sounded with a massive riff which makes you want to headbang Meshuggah style. When I'm driving and this section comes on people must think I'm crazy cause I lose my shit everytime. |
6 | | Animals As Leaders Weightless
Somnarium - I don't know what it is about this song that just snares me everytime. It just feels larger than life, before finally coming back to Earth at around the 1:50 mark then getting propelled back into infinity with a blistering solo from Tosin. |
5 | | Animals As Leaders Animals as Leaders
Behaving Badly - Containing probably one of the most complex little picking doohickies I've heard from Tosin, this song is another chiller and mixes that picking with a solid chug. It changes tempos oft and heads into a very, very nice spacey section which just sweeps you off your feet and you have no choice but to get lost in it while slowly doing windmills. Check around 2:30. |
4 | | Animals As Leaders Animals as Leaders
The Price of Everything and the Value of Nothing - This song just breathes so well. A nice soft intro leads the song into a very groovy affair which is capped off with an outro for the ages. Nice chords over an atmospheric picking/electonic sequence, leading to a tastful finish. Fantastic shit. |
3 | | Animals As Leaders Animals as Leaders
Tempting Time - From the moment the electronics come in you know this will be a beast. The perfect song to display Tosin's abilities early to first listeners and that soft chord section is tits. Just a perfect opener to a brilliant album. |

Earth Departure - Best song off of Weightless hands down. The last half of the song is a complete gem. The transition from solo to chug at 4:10 is the best moment of the album. That outro solo is just...ah, no words. After first listening to Weightless this and Somnarium were the only 2 tracks that really grabbed me from the get go. Weightless was a great, albeit slightly different album from the self-titled in that it seemed to have more rapid changes. Now I don't mean time changes it's ALOT more sporadic and dangerously all over the place instead of feeling like a natural, flowing affair. It's for this reason I feel alot of people give it some flak. Well that and the electonics which I don't overly notice personally. After many listens though it really comes through and is easily an amazing record. Probably my album of 2011. |

CAFO - Don't worry you're not a bandwagoner if you like this one the most, it really is their best song. Their first I ever listened to and it captures every aspect of their sound perfectly. I mean it totally floored me when I heard it. It has a completely ludicrous sweep pattern coupled with a pummelling chug. Then it goes into...and then...and then...fuck there's just so much going on. But seriously best AAL moment is in fact 4:50 till the end. Bar none. The atmospheric section with the chug overshadowing the soft chords, man, magic. Perfect tune. When I first heard it I knew I had finally found a really special band. |
