Best Metallica Albums

My favorite albums, by the Metal beast and legend, Metallica, in order - the best and the rest.
1Metallica
Metallica

The best album by Metallica is their 6th album, often refered by fans as 'the Black Album'. You can call it a 'sell out', and continue talking about the old days of the 80's. This album is a metal masterpiece, and this the main reason that 15 million pieces of it were sold. The album and the band were critically praised of it and commercially successful. The band changed their thrashy sound from previous albums, presenting more commercially accessible sound. The lyrics of The Black Album, written by James Hetfield, were more personal and introspective in nature than previous Metallica albums.
Best songs:
"Enter Sandman" (their most famous track, the main riff was written by Kirk Hammett. The lyrics are about nightmares. This song is played live in every show since its release.)
"Wherever I May Roam" (heavy and slow tune, opens with sitar, about living on the road. and yes, after he dies, he still roams.),
"The Unforgiven" (Amazing ballad. The song describes a man who never took risks and ultimately regretted it. The song has since spawned two sequels, in the form of "The Unforgiven II", from the album ReLoad, and "The Unforgiven III" from the album Death Magnetic. both of them aren't as good as the original). "Sad But True" (the heaviest single released from this record, recorded on Drop-D tuning, lyrics about Drugs)
"Nothing Else Matters" (a personal acoustic song which was written by James. Lars convinced him to put it on the record, and the result is their best emotional song, and one of their most famous tracks).
2Metallica
Master of Puppets

This album is usually praised the best thrash album ever produced. The pinnacle of Metallica's golden age, its consisting the best thrash song ever written by Metallica:
"Master of Puppets" (amazing thrash tune deals pretty much with drugs, notable for its extensive use of downpicking and its long instrumental section beginning about three and a half minutes into the song) together with very good other fast songs, as "Battery", "Disposable Heroes"; The Instrumental 'Orion', and a good ballad entitled 'Sanitarium'.
3Metallica
...And Justice For All

This album is known of its unaudible bass, complex musical approach and of its bad production- but still, this is the most progressive thrash metal album ever produced, with pearls like 'Blackened', 'Dyers Eve', 'the Shortest Straw', the 9-minutes titular track and the best song of the album - 'One', my favorite song by Metallica.
4Metallica
Ride the Lightning

Metallica second album is a speedy, thrasher album. The main theme is death, and each song deals with it in other way. Also a masterpiece. The album's ballad, their first - 'Fade to Black' - is the album's most famous song. Another good songs here are: the titular track, 'For Whom the Bell Tolls', 'Creeping Death' and 'Call of Ktulu'.
5Metallica
Kill Em All

Metallica's debut album is their most fierce, aggressive and thrashing album. Speedy and violent riffs, tight drumming, etc. Not as good as the other 80s albums, This is a lot better than late Metallica albums. Best songs are: The anthemic "Seek & Destroy"; "Motorbreath", "Jump in the Fire", the "Four Horsemen" and "Hit the Lights".
6Metallica
Death Magnetic

The 2008 comeback album, which is the point when Metallica returned to its original form and influences. Including their heaviest tracks since 1991. - But the album is too compressed, too loud, and sounds repetitive sometimes. But anyone, good comeback record. Best song here is 'All Nightmare Long', together with great tunes as 'That Was Just Your Life', 'My Apocalypse' and 'Broken, Beat & Scarred'.
7Metallica
S&M

Nice combination between the heavy metal of Metallica and the classical music of San Francisco's Orchestra. This includes a lot of songs from their long career, with two new special tracks written for this record. Contains very good symphonic versions of 'Nothing Else Matters', 'Wherever I May Roam', 'The Call of Ktulu' and 'One'.
8Metallica
Reload

Continuing the themes and styles of Load, Reload is the second bluesy hard rock album made by Metallica. Nice and groovy songs, not so heavy, but a lot better and fierce than the previous record. Contains good songs such as: Fuel, The Memory Remains, Prince Charming, Devil's Dance, Unforgiven II.
9Metallica
Load

Very very good hard rock album. Very very bad Metallica album. 5 years after the release of the black album, Metallica is back but now with a different style and different themes. Bluesy rock songs, soft and straightforward. Best songs: King Nothing, Until it Sleeps, Ain't My Bitch, Hero of the Day, Outlaw Torn.
10Metallica
St. Anger

Metallica's worst album. Very bad production, worthless effort. Sounds like alternative metal, not like the thrash metal Metallica helped to create or even the hard rock / bluesy grooves of the late 90s. The best song here is "Frantic."
