Bitchfork 03.18.11	I mean it depends on your taste, and to be honest I'm glad that sputnik has a lot of DIY amateur artists putting stuff out, because I think people are more willing to look at genres or styles that they might not have had the initiative to because they know the person, even if it's just online. And thanks Ire.
TMobotron 03.18.11	I like that sputnik as a community is pretty open to crossing boundaries into other genres and stuff. Personally I just think its awesome to have a community that clearly loves music so much that they want to contribute some of their own stuff. And I haven't listened to this or anything b4k but I respect very much that you spend the time to make music on your own.

Bitchfork 03.18.11	thanks dylan. yeah was gonna rec deathprod. dead people's things is really the saddest track ever. maeror tri is another thing i usually rec. but if you've never really gotten into dark ambient i'd go with troum and allsides/troum/bohren and der club of gore. gnaw their tongues sounds absolutely nothing like alcest i don't know who told you that but they probably need to be shot. thanks liledman, i'm glad you enjoyed that EP. Although that and this are nothing alike. :3

TMobotron 03.19.11	what the fuck enrique you stop by here but can't even give me a whats up in my shoutbox? also thx b4k, I've had bohren's sunset mission for quite awhile. love the shit out of it, but i have to be in the right mood to want to listen to it. probably the best music I have to just put on and relax to though. havent really had a chance to listen to anything you guys recommended me though, mostly just listened to stuff at work and around friends lately and i cant really be like hey guys let me pop in some dark ambient real quick when the most daring thing they've ever enjoyed was the newest kanye west album.
sniper01 03.19.11	i routinely subject my gf and close friends to music outside of their interest, and sometimes outside of their range of comfort, i think it's good for people to have to stretch to appreciate art, especially music. i will give almost anything a real, honest listen before i pass judgement, and that includes the top 40 stuff some of my friends like, and i expect people to do the same when i show them stuff. closed-mindedness is the most infuriating trait a human being can exhibit imo.
TMobotron 03.19.11	no sniper i agree completely, nothing makes me more mad than people who say things like "you listen to bad music" when I really just listen to things outside of their comfort range (which is whatever is popular on the radio at that moment). Closed-mindedness is absolutely disgusting, id be half the person i am today if I turned away from everything i didnt like on my first encounter with it. And ive gotten some of my friends into some stuff because I try to force them to listen to it, but i was at a friends house playing some music for him and some other people so it wouldn't have really been my place to try to say what we would or would not listen to so i was trying to cater to him as he had purchased a keg and food for all of us.
sniper01 03.19.11	oh yeah man, i wasn't trying to lecture or anything, just sharing. closed mindedness is so unfair, i have one friend who's a composition major and is into fuck tons of classical music and he's constantly exposing me t the coolest shit, and i have these long debates with him because he just refuses to accept the music i listen to as art of the same caliber as what he likes, and its just fucking stupid because i know if he would just let go of his pretensions he would find a lot to enjoy. i just don't understand how people can not even want to give music a fair chance, you miss out on too much mindblowingly good shit that way.

sniper01 03.19.11	actually i agree. i could talk about this forever and probably never be happy with my own conclusions, i'm just thinking in circles. all i'm trying to say is that people should make the effort to approach music with an open mind and accept it on it's own terms, and if they won't do that, they shouldn't say it "sucks" just because they haven't really given it a chance to affect them.

TMobotron 03.19.11	yeah i know you werent lecturing snipe its cool, just wanted to share my similar opinion. and yeah i agree so much with the statement "i could talk about this forever and probably never be happy with my own conclusions", because on the one hand i really think, at least when dealing exclusively with music, that as much as close-minded people bother me, they're really just hurting themselves. But on the other hand I think it's close-minded to expect everyone to listen to music the same way that I do and to think that casual listening is somehow less acceptable or inferior to my way of listening. And @erasedcitizen I get what you're saying completely, but i feel like for a lot of people and probably even most people, it's not so much that they don't care to know as much as it is that they don't know what they don't know (hope that makes sense, couldn't think of how to phrase that better). I know that for me personally music became much more important and enjoyable for me once I opened my eyes to things that the average person would not like, and I honestly could not be happier with it. I think the most important thing for sharing music (and maybe for sharing anything) with people you generally don't see eye to eye with is to find a balance somewhere between doing absolutely nothing to expand their tastes and forcing them to be subject to something they totally won't like just because you feel like they should witness it. i know this is kind of a novel i wrote but its an interesting subject to me and one i deal with frequently as music is so important to me and almost no one i know has similar tastes.
