09.01.23 | The ringing never stops! hahaha awesome |

09.01.23 | Never wore earplugs Anand constant tinnitus, I usually keep a loud fan on while I'm home to help drown it out. Seen meshuggah like 4 times, they slay live |
Deez
09.01.23 | Had Tinnitus for 20 odd years. Was suicidal at first but really doesn't bother me anymore. It's still there but just not as harsh. Sometimes it's bad. Weirdly i hear it more when I put earplugs in at shows so I just don't use them. Obviously you can't measure how bad one person's is to the next. I also have 'tinnitis of the eyes' too. Yay. Should he put down tbh |

09.01.23 | Had Loops for about a year now, the Experience version. Great stuff, really perfect for concerts. Like if you're attending many concerts, then you def should invest in these |

09.01.23 | Also, this is coming from a guy with severe constant tinnitus |
CugnoBrasso
09.01.23 | A friend of mine told me that some concerts are EQed to make them sound good while wearing ear plugs. I don't know if that's true, but when I saw the Mars Volta in June I did find the sound to be a bit harsh without ear plugs.
I usually pick up the ones they've got at the bar, I don't think I ever bought them. |
Feather
09.01.23 | I use Eargasms and swear by them. Where them every show (at least a couple a month). Ripped a pair recently and the company sent me a new pair for free, so good customer service too.
Heres a link to a list I made asking about this 5 years ago, might find other recs there:

09.01.23 | I started notices ~6 years back that my right ear was blowing out at loud events. Even loud parties in confined spaces, not just concerts. Figured I should start protecting them. |
JDubb
09.01.23 | Get eargasms - concert sounds nearly perfect, and no after effects (muffled hearing, ringing). |
Spec
09.01.23 | I just wear pink/orange ones you get from a pharmacy. They’re absolutely better than nothing. Tinnitus drives me fucking crazy and if it gets any worse I’ll probably off myself. |
DungeonBoy
09.01.23 | Eargasms are good, so are these Mumbas for less than half the price:
https://www.amazon.com/Fidelity-Musicians-Technology-Protection-Festivals/dp/B09SPLQJ2G/ref=sr_1_25?crid=K3RHT7ZJL7L8&keywords=ear%2Bplugs&qid=1693602196&sprefix=ear%2Bplugs%2Caps%2C122&sr=8-25&th=1
I've used these Mumbas for years and they are a total game changer. They allow you to enjoy the music without destroying your eardrums and perform 100 times better than those pieces of foam you jam in your ears.
Honestly guys if you are going to live shows just fork over the 17 bucks for these, they will change your life. |
ConcubinaryCode
09.01.23 | Yes, just do it.
"A friend of mine told me that some concerts are EQed to make them sound good while wearing ear plugs. I don't know if that's true"
I have tried this and it absolutely feels true at least in smaller venues. Big concerts are a toss up imo but it's your ears so protect them anyway |
CugnoBrasso
09.01.23 | Ok, never heard of eargasms but, as a complement to my previous comment, I can't hear anything above 14-ish MHz, soooo |
Demon of the Fall
09.01.23 | Can you just use regular plugs for like night time / sleeping and shit?
Feeling like I might need some for Oxbow on Sunday and I’m unprepared
Cult of Luna in a small venue really fooked my hearing for a few days (fortunately fine now) |
Emim
09.01.23 | "Sometimes it's bad. Weirdly i hear it more when I put earplugs in at shows so I just don't use them."
Because you don't have ambient sounds to block out the ringing, but you're just making it worse. Wear ear protection and deal with it, you got a lot of road left.
I wear a pair of surefire plugs I got at Walmart. Good enough for shooting good enough for a concert. |
Feather
09.01.23 | Wear ear protection [2]
Even if you feel your ears are already fucked.. I am sure they could get worse |
MeatSalad
09.01.23 | It can always get worse lmao, yup. Thanks guys, gonna look into everything mentioned here |
JesperL
09.01.23 | yeah wear that stuff, thankfully been doing it since i was like 15. i use decently cheap ones (alpine, like 20 eur here) but they're absolute lifesavers |

I've forgotten to wear earplugs for a couple shows and spent the entire time worrying about fucking up my hearing than enjoying the show |

09.02.23 | I've got a pair of Zildjian ones that were pretty good at a smaller venue. didn't really change the sound much, it just blocks out all the hiss from the extreme frequencies, you can still feel how loud it is, you just don't take it straight to the eardrums
not used them at a bigger venue though. |
ToSmokMuzyki
09.02.23 | hey crayons are underrated entertainment |
PotsyTater
09.02.23 | I like Loops. I have two pairs, the quiet and the experience I think. You’d probably want the experience plus ones for this purpose. They have acoustic channels specifically intended for music and events and you can put inserts inside to block the channels if you want additional decibel protection. I’ve never used either pair for events but yeah they are good. |

09.02.23 | I just got tired of my ears ringing for days after going to concerts, and developed a genuine concern for what that damage was doing to the longevity of my hearing. I assumed all this macho talk of "f*ck your hearing" in this thread is troll bait, but maybe some people are that dense. |

Worth getting your ears checked and cleaned. Had tinnitus for a year before nurse cleaned out a ball of wax and suddenly I had crystal clear 4kHD bluray REMUX hearing with no tinnitus. Not uncommon
fun fact: the owner of Texas Roadhouse restaurant franchise deleted his sys32 over his tinnitus |

09.02.23 | Half the users are already deaf and rate albums based on the aesthetic and what fantano said about it. |
MeatSalad
09.02.23 | I think that's not always true but probably applies when you're hearing music that sounds like a reiteration on something you've heard before, which most of us can probably say is at least half of the music we've heard. It's a tough cognitive bias that sometimes makes new music hard to appreciate but I think that's what leads some of us to listen to some really esoteric shit (which is a good thing usually) |
botb
09.02.23 | I got mine checked after a bout with vertigo a couple years ago and somehow mine is still really good. I didn’t wear ear protection at shows until I was like 23 or 24 and I’ve been going since I was 15. I have some basic ringing that sticks around sometimes but it’s very faint and idk if that’s tinnitus or just something that people normally experience from time to time. |

09.02.23 | My hearings fine(may not be in 10 years) but had Tinnitus for decades. Hasn't got any worse (yet) been to hundreds and hundreds of shows. I just don't like how it sounds with earplugs and as I said it actually makes my Tinnitus hearable(?) With them in at shows. So the very rare times I've tried them I just take them out, Fk it. |
JDubb
09.03.23 | Cheap foam ear plugs are better than nothing - but don't sound half as good as eargasms... |
MeatSalad
09.03.23 | I've used the cheapies a couple times and they for sure help dodge the ear ringing but never had any experience with the earplugs designed for concerts/letting some of the detail through. Looking forward to giving Loops a spin soon |
AlexKzillion
09.03.23 | tbh i bought a big box of the cheap foam ear plugs from cvs for $15 and it works perfectly for me... allows me to still go in the pit and not be scared they're gonna be lodged in my ears too far or care if i inevitably lose them (i typically bring like three pairs if i know there's gonna be a pit) |

09.06.23 | 'Dew, Demon and Botb all agreeing on shoving toilet paper in their ears is very funny'
I was agreeing in that I did it, like once or twice that I can recall. I remember thinking 'hmm, should really get some plugs next time, that gig was loooooooud' but being young, drunk and stupid, that thought exited my head the moment my ears stopped ringing. This then only occurred to me the next time I was at a gig and thus the last minute 'solution' of putting toilet paper in there seemed logical at the time, lol
I want to make it clear that I'm not actually recommending anyone do this |
