06.02.10 Top 10 Thrash Metal Bands

Top 10 Thrash Metal Bands

A brief list of 10 absolute Thrash Metal bands.
1Dark Angel

Wow. Just wow. These guys take speed to a ridiculous level and they do it so well and with such force, brutality and skill that one simply can't call it ridiculous. They are incredibly tight, faster than god knows what, more brutal than any other Thrash Metal band without it being too much and just fucks every band that ever said they were fast up the ass. Darkness Descends is probably my favorite pure Thrash Metal album, be sure to check them out if you haven't heard of them. "Too fast, my ass!"
2Kreator

I wish I could place this band on first place because they are truly an amazing Thrash Metal act but they are simply not tight enough, doesn't have enough worthy material for a higher rank and had some less appealing releases in the 90's as every band had for whatever reason... But nevertheless a charismatic band that didn't drink beer in the Bay Area in the earl days, but blood in an highly industrialized Germany which gave them a more serious and brutal sound. They've gone back to their roots recently and are doing a very good job.
3Sadus

Pick up Illusions/Chemical Exposure and shut up.
4Slayer

It's fuckin' Slayer! Probably the most influential Thrash Metal band ever. They've grown to be less favorable with the latest releases but the legacy they've left behind is pure gold. Although repeatedly overrated by fanboys and critics alike, Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven and Hell Awaits are true classics, the most brutal band of the big four ends at fourth place.
5Testament

This band is fucking majestic. I don't even care is it's not ultra aggressive, it's one of my favorite bands and still going strong.
6Sodom

German Thrash Metal at its finest, Sodom has stayed true to the genre even through the 90's and released two incredible records back in the day, Agent Orange and Persecution Mania. Some songs just have a tendency to sounds very mush the same and it's a shame because they are really gifted. I get shills as Angelripper whispers "Blas..." into the microphone in that charismatic German accent and the band explodes into Blasphemer, haha.
7Exodus

Man, this band is truly a fun band. They are fast, aggressive and loud and probably along with Slayer created the image of Thrash Metal back in the day with their hard partying habits and take no prisoner attitude, especially when dealing with posers... Bonded By Blood is one of the greatest Thrash Metal album and a true pioneer.
8Megadeth

I'm not too fond of the so called "big four" of Thrash. Sure, I love Slayer and Metallica's early releases simply because they are awesome but you've probably heard this millions of times before, so let's just get to the point... Yeah, you know the drill: Dave Mustaine joins Metallica, writes half an album for them and is kicked out, stolen of his material to feed what was to become the biggest band of all time. He is not happy. He is angry. And anger is what fueled him as he took revenge by forming his own band and releasing an album of pure hatred, Killing Is My Business. Would you really call this thrash though? The recognizable beat isn't prominent at all... It's fast, yes, but it's really more complex that fast... but you know what? this IS Thrash Metal because it's fueled by anger and hatred which give it an aggressive sound. Peace Sells focused more on complexity and Dave was taking full use of his skills, but it's still fueled by anger, so is SFSGSW. Rust In Peace is a complex Thrash masterpiece and the hatred is not very prominent. But why am I mentioning it then? Because it's fucking awesome. Megadeth kicks Metallica's ass any day of the week nowadays anyways, but you've heard this way too many times.
9Morbid Saint

There's some clear Dark Angel influences in this American extreme Thrash Metal act, it's fast, it's aggressive and it's fucking awesome - whoever said Thrash was supposed to be much more than a thousand BPM anyway?! Unfortunately they had too few released to be ranked higher and disbanded in the beginning of the 90's, so they never had to face the Metal band fiascoes of the 90's, but that might be a positive thing.
10Metallica

Yes, you read it - "M E T A L L I C A". It's the band everybody loves to hate, the prime example of a band that betrayed their fans, sold out and became the posers that they at first hated. how many times have you heard that again? Because I read about it or hear about it almost every. Single. Fucking. Day. If not on internet forums, in school, or my friends talk about it or whatever. But I disagree. Sure, they sold out, if you want to call it that. Yes, they became posers. Yes they became a more poor live act and yes, their music got worse. But seriously, can you look me in the eye and say that Master Of Puppets and Ride The Lightning are not two fucking incredible records? Can you tell me that this band didn't influence thousands of bands to form bands even to this day, and live the lie? Wake the fuck up people, Metallica is overrated as FUCK, but they sure were a monster band and deserve to be on the list.
