Concerts In 2012 (part 2)

Part 2 of my list of bands I saw last year. Final rtally was 137 bands (with rrepeats) and 51 days of music. ~122 with no repeats
1Friends

Opened for Two Door Cinema Club. Man these guys are terrible. I saw them last open for Bear Hands at a 300 capacity bar and honestly am very surpised they moved past that stage. Not that the crowd was into it- when they said they had two songs left a "one more song! one more song!" chant started. The only comments in the crowd were how the lead singer was fun and carefree. Probably the worst opening band I've seen... two years in a row now
2Two Door Cinema Club

Headliner. So between sets at this show the volume didn't go down and the swirling stage lights stayed on. The drunker members of the crowd didn't seem to notice there wasn't a band on stage. The band put on one of the best shows I've seen for a four piece guitar band. Really good stage presence and excellent lighting.
3Pictureplane

Opened for Crystal Castles. Just some guy mixing songs, nothing exciting.
4Health

Opened for Crystal Castles. I finally got around to seeing their full live set. It was good, but was expecting something better.
5Crystal Casltes

Headliner. Pretty crazy show. Much more mosh pit than dance party. Alice was spitting Jack Daniels at the crowd and crowd surfing when she wasn?t sining so that lived up to the hype. Also I lost my watch, which sucked.
6Reema Major

Opened for Waka Flocka Flame. She was 17, as the hype man said atleast 17 times. Not bad, especially for a female rapper associated with Brick Squad.
7Wooh Da Kid

Opened for Waka Flocka. Surprisingly entertaining, but im glad he was only on for 20 minutes.
8Waka Flocka Flame

Headliner. Waka has a stage presence that lives up to his music. I would actually recommend anyone to go see him if they can. His shows have a crazy energy to them.
9Poor Moon

Opened for Beach House. Really chill band, I'll have to check them out soon.
10Beach House

Headliner. Even better live than I expected. In one of those converted theater venues, which was perfect.
11Bearstronaunt

Opened for Divine Fits. Ended up in the front row, which was pretty cool. Bearstronaunt had a lot of energy and was very entertaining live.
12Divine Fits

Headliner. Awesome set, they pretty much played all their album plus a few covers. The best one was of Frank Ocean's Lost, sung by Britt Daniel.
13Coke Weed

Opened for The Walkmen. Meh, they were solid just not my type of music. Too blues/rock/soul with not enough variation.
14The Walkmen

Headliner. Was in the front row for this show too, right infront of the guitarist who was really fun to watch. The band had a lot of energy which was great.
15Bear Hands

Opened for GZA. Right after seeing the Walkmen I took the train to see this show. Luckily it started 2 hours late so I literally missed 3 or 4 songs from Bear Hands. These guys are one of my favorite groups, and even the gangster rap fans were nodding along.
16Killer Mike

Opened for GZA. Ill admit it- Killer Mike was the highlight of the night by far. He brings an incredible engery to his live performance. For example, stopping his DJ halfway through GO and doing the whole thing again accapella.
17GZA

Headliner. Crazy show. At one point he jumpedinto the crowd for a few songs which lead to the best 'wu tang clan aint nuthin ta fuck wit' chant of the night. Only complaint is he was bitching about the sound system all night when it was fine. Trying to sound "hard" by complaining about it not being loud enough then complaining it sounds bad when they turn it up isn't doing anything to help you sound "hard".
18MS MR

Opened for Grouplove. They had a few really catchy songs, but when I tried to find them the next day I couldn't find any of the good songs. Maybe they were all sneak peaks or something.
19Grouplove

Headliner. As always, Grouplove put on a great show. The crowd has gotten more 'mainstream' which usually isn't bad but it gets annoying when people are instagramming and complaining about getting bumped into.
20Yeasayer

Headliner. I enjoyed this show a lot. All the songs had a new edge when being performed and they singers did a good job of trading off between songs.
21Jameson

Opened for Mimosa. Worst band of the year. Imagine some guys who think Nickleback and Creed are the most hardcore bands listen to frank ocean and decide they want to try doing something 'dope like that'. Only credit goes to the drummer who was very crisp.
22Curren$ey

opened for Mimosa. Very odd line up, but curren$ey made the most of his set. I'd see him again if he toured with another rapper I liked.
23Mimosa

Headliner. He needs help learning to read a crowd. People were obviously going for the dubstep/rap/reggae toned stuff but he insisted on spinning top 40 remixes for half of his set.
24Dawn and Hawkes

Opened for Jimmy LaFave. Really good duo of country/singer-songwriter type music. Definitely worth checking out.
25Jimmy LaFave

Headliner. Went for my dad's birthday. He was really good. I guess hes more folk than country, but closest to Texas music I'll go (not including REK).
26Matthew Ryan

Opened for Gaslight Anthem. Just a guy and his guitar, he had a really unique style and was a perfect opener for Gaslight.
27Polar Bear Club

Opened for Gaslight Anthem. Been wanting to see them for a while and was definitely impressed. The singer looks like one of my college advisors which was kinda funny.
28The Gaslight Anthem

headliner. What can I say? Of course they were amazing. Luckily I got a good spot to see them cause it sold out and I had to get a balcony spot.
29Jeff the Brotherhood

Opened for Delta Spirit. Not as good as on their albums, but still the duo aspect was entertaining.
30Delta Spirit

Headliner. Not a huge fan of these guys, but they really put on a great show.
31DIIV

Opened for Japandriods. After hearing a decent amount of hype about these guys I was surprised when they looked and sounded like a shitty high school band.
32Japandroids

Headliner. Insane show. Lots of energy from everyone in the crowd and Japandoids' performance was spot on.
33Foxygen

Opened for Of Montreal. Really good psychedelic pop band. Second great band I learned about while opening for Of Montreal.
34Of Montreal

Headliner. Kinda sour feeling for this show cause as good as it was I looked at the setlists for every other stop on this tour and the one I saw was by far the worst.
35Alejandro Escovedo

Opened for Los Lonely Boys. Went with my dad. Really good band with a few different styles and some really good lyrics.
36Los Lonely Boys

Headliner. Really talented group. The guitarist and bassist made the show. Great show for a few days before christmas.
37Kendrick Lamar

Headliner. Good show, but he needs to learn to mix his voice on top of the backing tracks. Disappointing in that regard.
