Stuff I Discovered Through Sputnik
So, since I joined this site, my musical taste has expanded significantly. Here's the bands that I learned about on here. I'd appreciate any recommendations.
Pretty innovative thrash band that is criminally underrated by most people. 4/5
|2|| ||Andrew Bird|
Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs
Very pleasant music. 4.5/5
|3||At The Drive-In|
Relationship of Command
My first hardcore album. Incredibly strange, and I need some more time to adjust to the vocals. 3.5/5, probably going to go up to about a 4, maybe a 4.5.
Sounds a bit like the death metal equivalent to Megadeth. 4/5
|5||Between the Buried and Me|
The Great Misdirect
I was put off by the long track times, but after a couple of listens, I began to love this album. 4.5/5
None So Vile
My favorite extreme metal album. Only complaints are that the album is somewhat repetitive, and I can't understand any of the lyrics. 4/5
One of the most interesting melodeath albums that I have. There's absolutely no reason for The Jester Race to be more popular than this. 4.5/5
My favorite album from these guys. Some very memorable riffs and melodies. 4/5
Storm of the Light's Band
My favorite black metal album, full of amazing melodies and riffs. 5/5
The Jester Race
Overrated but good. Definitely not the best Gothenburg album of all time. 3.5/5
|11|| ||Ian Anderson|
Secret Language of Birds
I've been a huge Jethro Tull fan for years. I have almost all of their good albums and I've seen them live (awesome show), but I've never heard of this album. This album is almost perfect and certainly the best thing Ian did since 1979. 4.5/5.
All of the band members are great, but the guitar playing and vocals are definitely the highlights for me. Great album. 4/5
|13||The Mars Volta|
De-Loused in the Comatorium
One of the oddest albums that I own. I need to give this a few more listens before I settle on a rating, but right now, its between a 3.5 and a 4.5/5
Crack the Skye
Best sludge band that I know of. Pretty good, but the vocals are definitely an acquired taste. 3.5/5
|15||Nine Inch Nails|
The Downward Spiral
I have PHM and The Slip, and some songs from TDS. I look forward to buying the whole thing, and if the whole album is as good as March of the Pigs and Hurt, then it will be a definite 5/5.
Why do so few people know about this album? This is without a doubt one of the best albums that I own. Anybody that likes Dio, Black Sabbath, or Deep Purple (or music in general) should buy this immediately. 5/5.
Once again, not enough people know this band. One of the better speed/thrash acts that I know of. 4/5.
Nice album filled with emotion. When the Crowds are Gone is the band's best song. Unfortunately, some filler brings this down to a 4/5.
Pretty cool thrash band. Rather solid, but I prefer Kreator. 3.5/5 (Might go up to a 4)
I play classical piano and blues/metal guitar. I can't resist loving a band mixing opera and death metal. 5/5
Mods Carve the Pig
My initial reaction to this album was "What the Hell". A good 15 listens later, my reaction is unchanged. 4.5/5
You think 3 is strange? I always thought it was pretty straightforward
"its between a 3.5 and a 4.5/5"
So...a 4 then?
Well, I'm new to the genre, and I never heard anything like it, so I found the album to be strange
I meant that I haven't formed enough opinions about the album, and I might rate it anywhere from 3.5 to 4.5.
Yeah definitely get 15, interesting list too
March Of The Pigs is one of the weaker songs on The Downward Spiral imo, and also the way that Hurt works in the concept of the album is incredible.
For me they're all equally good, they just flow so well together
Just got The Downward Spiral. About to listen to it.
surprised theres not a shit ton more of opeth
I learned about Opeth a few months before I joined this site
Stick Wintersun in here :)
Did it. I stopped updating this a day after I created it, if I had gone on updating it, this would have been well over 50 albums by now.
Listening to TTDADO now. Pretty cool
mega props for 18
Mastodon don't play sludge anymore, that was only on Remission. You should listen to more sludge. Check out Acid Bath, Crowbar and Neurosis.
lol mastodon . This list was made back when i was dumb. I'll check out Acid Bath and Crowbar, Neurosis is awesome.
1 and 21 - fuck yeah.
I'm pretty sure that I learned about both 1 and 21 by reading your reviews of those albums, Willie. Thanks!
Jester race is not 3.5/5 by any means.
Yeah, it really grew on me since I made the list. It's between a 4 and 4.5 now, and leaning towards the latter.
Leviathan was my favorite release from Mastodon
Same here. The others grew off me and are 2.5-3's now, but Leviathan is still a 4.
Description for 7 is 100% true
And yes, The Jester Race is no more than a 3.5/5.
“One of the oddest albums that I own. I need to give this a few more listens before I settle on a rating, but right now, its between a 3.5 and a 4.5/5”
That's their, least experimental, least pretentious, easiest album to get into.
lol found in flames from sputnik
“My first hardcore album.”
If ATDI is hardcore, then Kenny G is post-bop-jazz-fusion.
Everything on this list is terrible. Moar like you discovered through BUTTNIKMUSIC
lulz lots of good stuff
