Why 2011 will be remembered
These are 40 highlights of last year off the top of my head. No particular ranking unless it says SOTY of course. =] What were some of your highlights of 2011? |
| 1 | Chevelle Same Old Trip
Probably has my most plays of every 2011 song in my Itunes. |
| 2 | Red The Outside
Classic Red, so goddamn catchy. |
| 3 | Fair to Midland Amarillo Sleeps Under My Pillow
Song of the year for me. So many different sounds and music styles in one song. And it fucking works. |
| 4 | The Roots Sleep
IMO some of Black Thought's best rapping ever. |
| 5 | Cage the Elephant Always Something
A very different way to kick off their latest album, too bad they didn't follow through and the album just becomes indie-wannabe garbage. |
| 6 | Chevelle Hats Off to the Bull
Chorus = Sex |
| 7 | Beastie Boys Don't Play No Games That I Can't Win
Santigold helps the Beastie Boys make the grooviest song of 2011. |
| 8 | Crossfade Suffocate
Surprisingly effective hard rock song from a band I never really took too seriously until this year. |
| 9 | Foo Fighters Dear Rosemary |
| 10 | Limp Bizkit Gold Cobra |
| 11 | The Throne Niggas In Paris
Kanye is the man...no...questions...hands...down. His verse in this is classic, stfu if you don't like it. |
| 12 | Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues
No reason in hell I should like this, but I will sing my heart out to it every time it comes on. |
| 13 | Sam Roberts Graveyard Shift
I'm Canadian, this song sounds very Canadian, Sam Roberts looks even more like someone from Lord of the Rings. I'm down. |
| 14 | The Roots Lighthouse
Cannot...stop...tapping my feet to the drumbeat. |
| 15 | Mastodon Spectrelight
1:14 - 1:46: Mastodon ceases to be merely a band and becomes an actual roaring Mastodon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mastodon = proof |
| 16 | Limp Bizkit Bring It Back
Oh how I wanted to hate this song and his shitty rapping soooo much, why does this have so many plays?!?!?! |
| 17 | Chevelle The Meddler
Song starts off kinda average tbh (even as a Chevelle fan). 3:21 hits..."Wtf have I been asleep the whole time, when did this song become this good? Is it still on 'The Meddler'? Wtf, omg omg this is amazinggggg!" |
| 18 | Coldplay Paradise
Infectious, srry sputnik |
| 19 | Mastodon Black Tongue |
| 20 | Thrice Anthology
This should have ended the album, it has such a bittersweet feel to it. |
| 21 | Drake Cameras / Good Ones Go Interlude
Make sure your bass is maxed for this song. |
| 22 | Swarms Hostile
Deviant made me do it. Can't say I'm a fan of dubstep but this song was worth looking into this. |
| 23 | Panda Bear Slow Motion
Weird seeing this on a list given what's already preceded it. |
| 24 | The Roots I Remember |
| 25 | The Black Keys Gold on the Ceiling |
| 26 | Lupe Fiasco Letting Go (ft. Sarah Green)
shattuuppp, it's good |
| 27 | Thursday No Answers
This is the kind of song that makes me re-think my life. |
| 28 | Crossfade Make Me a Believer
2:04 - 2:19: My personal favorite moment of music this year. This part made me jump outta mah chair. |
| 29 | Crosses Option
"Go back to doing stuff with Defto...oh alright okay I'll let it pass for now" :] |
| 30 | Russian Circles Atakla |
| 31 | Machine Head Be Still and Know
Epic |
| 32 | Dinosaur Bones Hunters
Perhaps the one song on here staff members on this site might not be aware of. |
| 33 | Born of Osiris Singularity |
| 34 | Megadeth Never Dead |
| 35 | Lady GaGa Electric Chapel
Perhaps the only song on the new album that stuck with me. It was IMO the most forgettable album of the year, but this song? Yeah... |
| 36 | Battles Futurna
Mindfuck |
| 37 | And So I Watch You From Afar Gang (Starting Never Stopping)
Clusterfuck |
| 38 | Hetfield & Hetfield Graveyard Suite
Pretty good from a very underground band. |
| 39 | Foo Fighters Bridges Burning
Heard this song come on...knew it would be a great album. |
| 40 | Cage the Elephant Aberdeen |
|
