01.08.12 | Tried neurosis "the eye of every storm"...god knows i tried!!!! Just isn't happening. So given that I can't take neurosis, is cult of luna a nice pitstop? |
SLAUGHTERDOZER
01.08.12 | since you cant listen to neurosis you should probably just stop listening to music |
Relinquished
01.08.12 | try Neurosis again pussy, they are dimensions better than Isis no matter what you think. as for Cult of Luna they are better than Isis, just start from the beginning of their catalogue. |
FrankRedHot
01.08.12 | ^agreed |
pwalcher
01.08.12 | i gave that neurosis album literally 5 good solid listens. And not like listening while doing other shit, I fucking sat down and made it the only thing I focused on and it still doesn't take lol faaacck. Maybe a different album from them would help? |
Relinquished
01.08.12 | sure you can try another album, but TEoES is their most accessible, but I seriously don't know what's not to get from that album, it's not that different from what you get from Isis. |
pwalcher
01.08.12 | yeah that's why i started with TEoES, iunno i'm thinking cult of luna might just be a better band to try now and save neurosis for later |
Relinquished
01.08.12 | bad move |
pwalcher
01.08.12 | you're right, it deserves another listen, cult of luna chronological order though? done |
TheVoiceAndTheSnake
01.08.12 | 5 is their best for me |
Shukal
01.08.12 | try Through Silver in Blood. I was trying to get into Neurosis, started with TEoES and just couldn't get into them. Tried Through Silver in Blood then and it worked. |
bringonthebreakdown
01.08.12 | they are making another album?
ps neurosis rules |

01.08.12 | no they're not |

01.08.12 | 2 is one of my favorite albums ever. |
fsharptrit0ne
01.08.12 | Neurosis takes time, like all great things |
Ignimbrite
01.08.12 | Cult of Luna is SO worth getting into. |
ZombicidalMan
01.08.12 | Even though I love Isis, uh, no, they don't. WR was incredibly mediocre compared to their other work, even though some of it did rule. As far as ranking each band, Neurosis obviously deserves to be first, no argument there even from someone who prefers Isis. Kind of just depends on what you're in the mood for; all three bands create pretty different atmospheres. |
Ignimbrite
01.08.12 | WR was far and away better than Absence. |
ZombicidalMan
01.08.12 | I used to think that, but I started learning songs off of each by ear, and now I kind of feel like Absence is way more interesting and definitely more unique than WR |
MasBarHigeuoris21
01.08.12 | 4 is 1 and Neurosis definitely takes time to listen to. Took me about four months before Times of grace clicked for me. If your looking for heavier post metal the nods to COL. |
pwalcher
01.08.12 | I don't count Isis releasing previously unreleased material a new album tbh, so no they're not REALLY gonna make one and it makes me saaaaddd |
Fossegrim
01.15.12 | Wavering Radient is the best imo. Oceanic is amazing too. I would be so happy if they got back and recorded new material. In my my dreams. |
Killerhit
01.15.12 | Fosse did you type that with your teeth |
figure337
01.15.12 | I would switch three and four but besides that I agree with this list. Cult of Luna is well worth a
listen imo they create better atmosphere pieces are where as ISIS has better heavy sections. If your
even a LITTLE into ISIS you should be able to love/appreciate something from neurosis. |
Shuyin
01.15.12 | 42153

Butkuiss
01.15.12 | Lol at all the butthurt. But srsly, their albums are all amazing.
CoL are great. Try Somewhere Along The Highway or Salvation. Those albums bring back memories, man.
Rosetta are awesome as well. Get Galilean Satellites or A Determinism of Morality.
Also, Zozobra, The Ocean, Pelican (old stuff), Mouth of the Architect, etc. |
TheVoiceAndTheSnake
01.15.12 | "the ranking is based on how much i like those bands, and imo isis are superior to col"

2: Neurosis
That's all you really need

01.15.12 | have you even heard CoL |
Shuyin
01.15.12 | mota and col are also great bands |
Shuyin
01.15.12 | mouth has songs that really mean alot to me 'generation of ghosts, hate and heartache, no one wished to settle here) and the guitars are fucking great.
col idk theres something special about them but i prefer their albums as a whole, the only standout track for me is finland. |
TheVoiceAndTheSnake
01.15.12 | Yea, I've heard of Col, I just don't think their discography as a whole can't be compared to bands like Isis and Neurosis.
But Salvation is a masterpiece |
pwalcher
01.15.12 | Geez don't all the Isis albums look great when they're altogether like that? Yellow, green, blue, orange... |
figure337
01.15.12 | It's the colors of a post-metal rainbow. |
TheVoiceAndTheSnake
01.15.12 | Instead of a pot of gold, it's a pot of scorpions, spiders, and myrrh |
pedro70512
01.15.12 | I tried Neurosis too and just couldn't get into it. TSIB has some great pieces but is generally super repetitive without evolution and the buildups are too caustic; it just doesn't create a consistently enjoyable mood. I guess I'm missing a genome or something, or maybe I need to be more brutally post-apocapyltic in my taste. |
Shuyin
01.15.12 | neurosis is hard at first, it was the same with me. people here on sputnik told me to keep trying and oh boy it was worth it.. its not really repetitive when you start noticing all the small details and stuff. |
TheVoiceAndTheSnake
01.15.12 | Try The Eye Of Every Storm, pedro |
Shuyin
01.15.12 | yea, my favourite neurosis album btw |
TheVoiceAndTheSnake
01.15.12 | Because I made the mistake of listening to Times of Grace on my first Neurosis experience and boy did I regret it |
Shuyin
01.15.12 | A Sun That Never Sets, album fucked with my mind for sometime. |
TheVoiceAndTheSnake
01.15.12 | ASTNS is one of the most personal albums that has ever graced my ears |
pedro70512
01.15.12 | Alright, Eye of Every Storm it is. thanks Voice and Shuyin. I mean...if Isis and Mastodon love Neurosis, and I love Isis and Mastodon, then I can't dislike it forever, right? |
Shuyin
01.15.12 | you need to insist a bit. neurosis can be a brainfuck. |
TheVoiceAndTheSnake
01.15.12 | Haha |
figure337
01.16.12 | you need to insist a bit. neurosis can be a brainfuck.[2]
Especially on "Stones from the sky". That skipping part towards the end always makes me think my comp is gonna freeze. |
pedro70512
01.16.12 | No skipping brainfuck can be as bad as "We are going to invert". But thanks for the heads-up. |
Powerban
01.16.12 | whoa, this list is full of dumb |
mindleviticus
05.11.12 | Fuck man, ISIS broke up |
mindleviticus
05.11.12 | And I have to agree, Wavering Radiant was my favorite ISIS album as well |
Ignimbrite
05.11.12 | "they are making a new album"
no, they aren't making anything. they've already finished making it. |
evilford
05.11.12 | yeah ISIS needs another album
all 3 ISIS, Neurosis and CoL are great. they are def top 3 PM bands but they all have their own flavor and there is something to love about all of them.
and it seems like it's trendy to bash ISIS here. there is a hater bandwagon.
anyways, any of those three you haven't check out, do so. Through Silver in Blood is Neurosis' best imo. The Beyond and Somewhere Along the Highway are tops for CoL |
pwalcher
05.11.12 | I actually tried TSIB and it's much better than TEoES, so maybe my taste will change and this Neurosis hate will go away. I still cannot consider any album by them a 4+ but TSIB was definitely a start. CoL will be next and I will surely start with that album.
@mindle: man Wavering Radiant was pure bliss for me, everything I loved about ISIS in one album |
qwe3
05.13.12 | check out souls at zero and times of grace theyre the easiest neurosis albums to get into |
Keyblade
05.13.12 | I loved TEoES from the first time I heard it over 2 years ago. It's pretty accessible so it's weird hearing how people can't get into it. |
Inveigh
05.13.12 | Souls at Zero is definitely the most traditional of their main albums
I used to think Times of Grace wouldn't be the best place for someone to start (my first two were TSiB and TEoES), but it seems like a lot of people ended up getting into them with that one after countless attempts with the more recommended releases. |
MichaelSnoxall
05.13.12 | I started off with Through Silver in Blood and Given to the Rising and I couldn't get into either. I then tried ENemy of the Sun and listened to that fully twice and just didn't get it. Then I listened to The Eye of Every Storm and I didn't get it until I heard I Can See You. Then the band just clicked and I love all their albums (bar Pain of Mind and the Word as Law, I still can't digest their crust punk stage) |
pwalcher
05.13.12 | @qwe (or anyone really): Are Times of Grace or Souls at Zero heavy? I'm pretty sure the main reason i liked TSIB were the heavier sections. Fuck they were good. TEoES really was lacking heavy sections and when they happened they lasted a short while and then it back to zzzzzz |
Relinquished
05.13.12 | "Are Times of Grace or Souls at Zero heavy?"
yep
"TEoES really was lacking heavy sections and when they happened they lasted a short while and then it back to zzzzzz"
it wasn't supposed to be heavy, take it as it is, like you would Pelican, Russian Circles, or a "heavy" post-rock band. |
Ignimbrite
05.13.12 | I still wouldn't call it post-rock, though... TEoES is one of those albums that I can't in good conscience pigeonhole into a single genre. |
GuanoBumbershoot
05.13.12 | I agree with you that Wavering Radiant is on the same level as Panopticon |
pwalcher
05.13.12 | Wonder how they're new album will sound, they said they were done mixing a little while ago, should get released within the next four months probs? Iunno maybe they take longer than most. Never anticipated a neurosis album before lol
@guano: those are their two best IMO, one being just slightly better than the other to me |
Relinquished
05.13.12 | they take their time so I'm guessing late '12 |
qwe3
05.14.12 | "Are Times of Grace or Souls at Zero heavy?"
i dont understand. theyre neurosis albums |
qwe3
05.14.12 | oh right yeah i get you. theyre more "heavy" in that sense than teoes. much more sludgy. listen to the first song off souls at zero its fuckin awesome |
Wolfhorde
05.14.12 | "Wonder how they're new album will sound"
Well, there's already a glimpse in form of some live recordings of a new song out there afaik. Not a lot, but it's a direction. |
pwalcher
05.14.12 | "listen to the first song off souls at zero its fuckin awesome"
dammit i had like a 50/50 chance of picking the right album and i chose times of grace hahaha oh well guess i'll get the other one now too |
evilford
05.14.12 | to crawl under one's skin m/ |
stabbler
05.14.12 | wavering radiant = panopticon = oceanic...because they're essentially the same album...post metal equivalent to explosions in the sky |
johnnydeking29
05.14.12 | to crawl under one's skin m/ [2], and Sterile Vision
|
evilford
05.14.12 | essentially the same album? they have similarities, but come on man |
stabbler
05.14.12 | i bet if i randomly played a track off any of those 3 albums, more than half of so called isis fans wouldn't be sure which album it came from ...you could probably add in the absence of truth to that. celestial is the only album with a different enough sound |
evilford
05.14.12 | so called isis fans...wtf r u even talking about dude |
stabbler
05.14.12 | c'mon ford there are a lot of posers floatin around |
xenocide26
05.14.12 | "Plz respond by ranking the following bands best to worst : Isis, Neurosis, Cult of Luna. (wanna know if getting into Cult of Luna is worth it, thanx)"
This request makes no sense. All 3 bands are definitely worth checking out, even the 'worst' of them. |
evilford
05.14.12 | well it's not my fault they haven't memorized their discog yet |
pwalcher
05.14.12 | meh each band takes a while to get into so i was just doing a poll to see who liked what band better and see if maybe i should shift focus to the other. |
Photon
05.14.12 | COL are incredibly consistent , all their albums are great. |
evilford
05.14.12 | agreed on that point |
