What A Year....

My top 10 for 2010. Sorry, no Amia Venera Landscape.
10Bullet for My Valentine

This band gets a lot of hate, which is completely understandable. While their earlier albums are not very strong, this latest album seemed to have a jolt of energy that the others didn?t. I?m as shocked as anybody would be to see them on my Top 10 for 2010, but this is a really catchy and infectious metal album that I would recommend. Just blot out the lyrics to some of the songs and focus on the guitar work and you should be fine. I AM GONNA GET SO MUCH HATE FOR THIS ALBUM I KNOW :( .HIGHLIGHTS: Your Betrayal; A Place Where You Belong; Pretty on the Outside

Like Kanye West, Eminem needed to release an album to rekindle my interest and while he didn?t score major points like Yeezy, Eminem released one of his strongest albums to date. I can honestly say I didn?t expect to enjoy it nearly as much as I did. This album captures your attention much faster and there?s a lot less filler than usual. He actually sounds amazingly normal. HIGHLIGHTS: Talkin' 2 Myself; No Love; Almost Famous
8Rabbit Junk
Project Nonagon

Just an easily-digestible good time. This digital hardcore band, while similar to Cyanotic in the industrial metal category, shows a heavier rock that doesn?t come off nearly as serious as the ladder and takes literally no time to become infectious and fun. This area of metal is slowly becoming one of the most addictive genres for me. HIGHLIGHTS: Home; The Expedition; Handlebars
7Sleigh Bells

This band was a surprise that caught my eye during the summer. It?s a ridiculously innovative sound that mixes a pump-up ?cheerleader? sound with electric guitar riffs. If you can find ?Tell ?Em? a catchy song, this album should easily top anybody?s list for 2010 as it?s unforgettable fun. HIGHLIGHTS: Rill Rill; Straight A's; Treats
Dark is the Way, Light is a Place

It was nice to see one of my top favourite bands release something this year. This album, while a little on the softer side, was a perfectly acceptable addition to their album collection. Some of the tracks here are incredibly powerful and the depression is really felt. It?s amazing that they achieved this while leaving the heavier sound behind which is what I really loved. HIGHLIGHTS: Closer; You Belong Here; Pray Tell
5Minus the Bear

I had never enjoyed any album from Minus the Bear until this one. They have immensely changed their sound to suit a poppier crowd, and honestly, it works. The first half of the album is next to flawless, and they lost a lot of what turned me off of them before which was the endless dragging of each song. HIGHLIGHTS: Summer Angel, Secret Country, Excuses
The Medication Generation

This was a much heavier-sounding album than their debut, and it complimented my music taste perfectly. There are a few filler tracks towards the beginning, but it was interesting just to see how powerful industrial metal could be, as I had little to no experience with it. This album has opened up my eyes to tons of new artists including Rabbit Junk. HIGHLIGHTS: Dose Responsive; Drek Kick; Sentient
3Kanye West
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

After delivering his worst album to date (808?s & Heartbreaks), Kanye West has fully redeemed himself with his best. I have personally never enjoyed a rap/hip-hop album so much in my life. Every track has its own story, and overall, the album reaches new highs for mainstream music. This is an album that will be seen as the modern day benchmark for rap albums. HIGHLIGHTS: Gorgeous; POWER; So Appalled; Hell of a Life
2The Dillinger Escape Plan
Option Paralysis

A welcome return to a heavier sound for the band. ?Ire Works? was great but they became a bit too accessible and easy to listen to. Here, they have a few softer songs that are all strong, but the majority of the album is fierce and punishing just like DEP should be. Nobody out there could?ve predicted the intensity they would kick the album off with. HIGHLIGHTS: Farewell, Mona Lisa; Gold Teeth on a Bum; Room Full of Eyes; Parasitic Twins
Diamond Eyes

Easily the most deliciously catchy metal album to come out this year. It took me a while to like the song ?Diamond Eyes? and ultimately give the album a try, but after that it?s pretty much smooth sailing till the finish line, with an epic stop along the way called ?Rocket Skates? which is my pick for song of the year, it?s an instant classic. HIGHLIGHTS: You've Seen the Butcher; Prince; Rocket Skates; 976-EVIL
