HATE BUT LOVED
The Raven That Refused to Sing
Before this album, Steven Wilson had been sucking some major dick as of late. With an average Porcupine Tree album from
2009, a bloated and self-absorbed second solo album in 2011, and a snoozefest collaboration with Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt in
2012, I didn't expect much from this motherfucker. How wrong I was, this might be the best thing he's done in years. He sounds
incredibly inspired once again.
Wasn't a fan of Obzen, but when the first song trickles through the speakers on this, I knew I was in for something different.
Neck of the Woods
Found it boring as fuck at first.
It didn't sound like Sound Awake so I was admittedly pissed at first.
|6||Queens of the Stone Age|
|7||Cult of Luna|
First listen was a huge drag and a chore.
|8||Dead Letter Circus|
The Catalyst Fire
I can't explain what happened here, one day I hated it, the next I couldn't find a bad song.
The Sun Comes Out Tonight
Wasn't a fan of their singles, too electronic. But they teased us all and kept the stronger heavier songs tucked away inside the
Never liked a full Foo Fighters album before (too much filler), this one changed the game.
|12||Middle Class Rut|
Pick Up Your Head
Average debut album, insanely better sophomore album.
Geneva had maybe two songs I liked. When "309" kicks the album off, I was immediately more impressed.

LOVE BUT HATED
I consider "The New Normal" one of the best rock albums I've ever listened to. I expected the same level of quality and I got a
way weaker album.
Reign of Terror
Outstanding debut, they went downhill here and have been ever since. I really don't like anything they do anymore.
We're Here Because We're Here
Maybe in time I'll give this another chance. For now, it hasn't done much for me.
I think I just like their newer stuff. The older punk style of Brand New is just not my thing.
The 20/20 Experience
I was a huge JT fan just like most of you. I put this album on expecting to be blown away, and just wasn't.

|Same thing happened with 3 and 20 for me. I also expected Carcass to release an overhyped album. It was great though.|
|I got the feeling 20 was a love it or hate it album. I just happened to be on the one side of it I didn't expect to be on. Lot of people enjoyed it though.|
|agreed 18 sucks|
|Everclear - Sparkle and Fade. Friend of mine gave me a hard drive filled with music this album was on it. Figured i'd give it one chance before deleting it off and could not be more surprised at how good it was. |
Pearl Jam - Backspacer, heard "Got Some" live on Letterman or something like that and the songs rocked hard. Was super pumped for the album as PJ has consistently been one of my favorites for over 20 years. Album sucked (for PJ standards). Prob listened to it like 20 to 30 times gave it a real shot, but never could get into it.
|Was PJ's new album this year any good?|
|of the ones i've heard:|
2: awesome from the first listen
4: nice inclusion, album got pretty much no attention at all and it's as good as their other works
6: a little grow but i've always liked it
13: i actually think it's a little weaker than geneva but still great
17: damn dude, you just can't not love a simple mistake
18: not as brilliant as devil and god but still cool and never thought it was bad
|Also awesome list I was just thinking about doing a list like this as I was driving to Detroit this weekend for a gig, listening to Sparkle and Fade and thinking about how much that album surprised me as I never really cared for Everclear.|
|Defo retry 17, my favourite album ever|
|Yeah I went backwards with Brand New, starting with the new stuff so when I got back to their roots, I just wasn't all that into it.|
|Yeah I love Lightning Bolt but I am a fanboy of like 20+ years of them|
|Didn't know about 15. How much worse than their debut is it?|
|@Mad.: Iunno I probably will haven't deleted it off my library yet. I do like "Dreaming Light" and "Everything" but really not much else and I gave it quite a few listens.|
|YFW < Daisy < Deja = TDAG |
|I really think with 15, it depends on your expectations. Sharing Space is a lot softer a rock album |
with a lot less punch to it than The New Normal. I liked Cog for their heaviness, so if you don't care
about a softer album, then go for it. I don't mind softer progressive rock, but Cog doesn't do it very
|I'll see how it turns out to be, thanks. Also, didn't know about 8 either, though I haven't listened to Dead Letter Circus in quite a while.|
