Some Favorite Moments/songs Of 2012

This year marks the first year where I think the amount of music I listened to went down from the year before. Maybe it's because I'm a bit busier, but my love for music has absolutely not declined and 2012 had some of the best music of the past few years, mopping the floor with 2011. I hate ranking albums because rankings are dynamic and constantly change, but I can list some of my favorite highlights of the year and speak to some of the specific moments that I'll remember for years to come. Comment with yours.
30The Mars Volta
Noctourniquet

THE MALKIN JEWEL: Lot of fans hated this song. I'm however not considered a true "fan" and liked this just fine.
29The Safety Fire
Grind the Ocean

HUGE HAMMERS
28The Gathering
Disclosure

MELTDOWN
27Thousand Foot Krutch
The End Is Where We Begin

WAR OF CHANGE
26Anathema
Weather Systems

THE BEGINNING AND THE END: I found this album a bit too samezee, but this one did stick out as different from the rest.
25The Shins
Port of Morrow

THE RIFLE'S SPIRAL
24Jack White
Blunderbuss

LOVE INTERRUPTION
23Circa Survive
Violent Waves

SUITCASE: Average band...average album...great single!
22Baroness
Yellow and Green

TAKE MY BONES AWAY: Even if this was a huge departure from their sludgier roots, I could care less.
21 Crystal Castles
(III)

TELEPATH
20Frank Ocean
channel ORANGE

PYRAMIDS
19Linkin Park
Living Things

CASTLE OF GLASS: Music video was just shitty obvious video game advertisement, song is good though.
18OFWGKTA
The OF Tape Vol. 2

RELLA: Funniest fucking music video I've seen in ages. If you haven't seen it yet, fix that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN-xq7t6pKw
17Lana Del Rey
Paradise

RIDE: Much better than her debut album.
16Rush
Clockwork Angels

THE WRECKERS
15Lacuna Coil
Dark Adrenaline

TRIP THE DARKNESS: So funny to watch how annoyed users on this site would get back when Sputnik had this music video as a pop-up for a good week.
14Meshuggah
Koloss

I AM COLLOSSUS
13High on Fire
De Vermis Mysteriis

SPIRITUAL RITES: This song makes my loins oscillate.
12P.O.D.
Murdered Love

BABYLON THE MURDERER
11Janus
Nox Aeris

STAINS: Pretty amazing album/song from a band that really does nothing unique or special. Just goes to show you don't need to be fancy and complicated to write stellar music.
10 Skyharbor
Blinding White Noise: Illusion & Chaos

CHAOS: APHASIA
9Metric
Synthetica

CLONE
8Twelve Foot Ninja
Silent Machine

MOTHER SKY: Catchiest chorus ever.
7Deftones
Koi No Yokan

ROSEMARY
6Silversun Pickups
Neck of the Woods

MEAN SPIRITS
5Kendrick Lamar
good kid, m.A.A.d city

SING ABOUT ME/DYING OF THIRST: I'm in no way a fan of rap/hip-hop, and when I see a song is going to go over the 10 minute mark I get super pessimistic. How wrong I was, this is one of the best rap songs of the last decade, a true masterpiece.
4Converge
All We Love We Leave Behind

TRESPASSES: I said I wouldn't rank albums, but I'm fairly certain this was album of the year for me. The continuous adrenaline rush of this album is astounding for a band that's been around a while and is kicked off by this very song.
3Birds of Tokyo
This Fire

BOY: This was my favorite EP released this year and a very positive sign that their upcoming LP could be their best yet. This song in particular is powerful and is maybe Ian Kenny's best vocal performance to date.
2Anberlin
Vital

TYPE THREE: This albums wins the title of "Most Nostalgic Album of the Year", even if it wasn't my absolute top spot. This song (particularly the lead-in to the second verse) was a touching moment I didn't anticipate and some of the most gut-wrenching lyrics they've ever written.
1Chevelle
Stray Arrows - A Collection of Favorites

FIZGIG: My favorite band continues to surprise me. Obviously I wouldn't pick a favorites album as my album of the year. But this little bonus track they just barely snuck into 2012 was exactly what I needed. It's catchy, crunchy, and proves the band still has it even after 13 years.
