Giving Music To Friends

IS hard. Here are 5 rules I try to follow...
1 Rory Gallagher
Irish Tour '74

Never listen to the music unless you are in the car. I love long songs, and its hard to have them engaged with 11 minute songs. So instead I look at their Ipod and give them suggestions, and paste songs unto their Ipod. They will like it on their own time. BTW I think this is the best live album I've every heard.
2Giant Squid

I don't offer music to people who like the radio, or country. Yes that sounds elite, but my experience shows that 99/100 times they list bands that play mainstream venue material. "Foo Fighters and Killswitch Engage are the best." I've tried to give recs, but my friends are not all THAT interested in finding unique musc. I don't HATE country, but I have noticed this trend.
The Seer

Don't offer recs unless you both enjoy music. This is a golden rule; They have to approach me. Music (like religion, politics, and movies) can be a highly opinionated topic, and most people do not NEED TO KNOW what you think of music.
Onward to Golgotha

Follow up and see what they liked, and what aspects of the music they liked. I for example don't care for vocals or overproduction, and lean heavy toward drums and guitar. For fun I also throw people 1 or 2 recs outside of their comfort zone.

Question; How do you recommend music, and do you have "Party" music as a seperate playlist on your ipod? I don't, just curious.
