Top Ten Alt. Rock/grunge Albums Of The 90's
1The Afghan Whigs
Gentlemen

An absolutely superb introspective into the tortured soul of Greg Dulli. Utterly flawless.
2Mark Lanegan
Field Songs

Langean's best album; not nearly as rock oriented as his work with the Trees, or even his solo stuff.
Lanegan is at his best surrounded by a calmer instrumental backing.
3Red Hot Chili Peppers
Blood Sugar Sex Magik

15 songs of pure funk (save Breaking the Girl). Ballads like I Could Have Lied and Under the Bridge serve
as a nice compliment to the heavy bass work of Flea, and rapping of Anthony.
4 Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
Henry's Dream

Although a short album, Cave blends depressingly hopeless lyrics with a hectic instrumental backing.
5Red Hot Chili Peppers
Californication

The perfect blend of funk, mainstream rock, and just a tiny bit of pop.
6Soundgarden
Superunknown

Cornell is definitely one of the best rock vocalists in the last 20 plus years.
7 Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
The Boatman's Call

A turning point for the Seeds; with this album they become a lot more mellow. However, all of the longing
and angst of Cave is still present.
8Screaming Trees
Sweet Oblivion

Probably the most underrated grunge album from the most underrated grunge group.
9Pearl Jam
Vs.

Definitely one of the more accessible grunge albums; no, I'm not forgetting Nevermind.
10The Afghan Whigs
Black Love

How did these guys not become one of the staples of great 90's rock?
