what?
they dumped his body in the sea as per muslim beliefs. even if someone is the most evil person ever, you should still observe their religious beliefs and honor their burial rights. there's not going to be anything soon. the seals took pic to send back to the US confirm it was him, but i assume that'll be under tight wraps for some time to come, so i don't really see any pics coming out for a while.

eternium
05.06.11 | "they dumped his body in the sea as per muslim beliefs."
No, they cleaned his body and prepared it as per Muslim beliefs. The dumping in the sea has been condemned by some Muslims as disrespectful but was done so that a marked grave could not become some sort of shrine for extremists (and no country would take the body anyway). |
Hyperion1001

ah yeah. i guess i was wrong to say "dumping the body" was following muslim standards, but the point was that they "buried" the body 24 hours after the death, so no pics are coming out anytime soon |

05.06.11 | Here's an interesting (or totally ridiculous - you decide) conspiracy theory I've read on this subject:
- Osama died of lung or liver disease/was killed in late 2001 and his body was preserved. This was kept secret from the public so there wouldn't be diminished support for the war on terror, and his death would be revealed at an opportune time for the government.
I think it's shite. It's like when people were saying 9/11 was set up by America to gain support for the war on terror. How can people have that little faith in their government? Surely they wouldn't believe they'd do that awful stuff to their own people. |
Countess
05.06.11 | "Surely they wouldn't believe they'd do that awful stuff to their own people."
I hope you were being sarcastic
btw I thought that Osama died/would die and it would be kept secret just so the people who wanted him dead wouldn't get the satisfaction |
Chrisjon89
05.06.11 | It's just a massively depressing thought. Not something I'd want to believe. South Park actually did a pretty clever take on that issue.
"btw I thought that Osama died/would die and it would be kept secret just so the people who wanted him dead wouldn't get the satisfaction"
Wouldn't get the satisfaction? How do you mean? And who? |
Countess
05.06.11 | "Not something I'd want to believe"
just because you don't WANT to believe it doesn't mean it couldn't happen
and I mean if Osama died and we didn't know it, people wouldn't be rejoicing/celebrating his death |
Deviant.
05.06.11 | "I won't believe it until i see an unshopped photo or video. The fact that they won't show any evidence to the public is bullshit."
No, it's not. What do you want, a shot of Bin Laden with half his head missing to prove he is dead? Do you have any idea what kind of terrorist activity they could instigate by showing that? Like I said in andcas' thread: I don't need a photo for me to believe he is dead, just like I don't need reports and documents for me to believe you're an idiot |
Chrisjon89
05.06.11 | Very true.
I agree and that's what gives weight to that conspiracy theory, because that revelation is surely a huge boost to Obama's approval ratings with an election on the horizon.
The reactions to it were very interesting too. Dunno if you saw any of the lists/threads here. At the very least it was cool to see how it brought people together to celebrate in the streets. I'm Australian so it was more low key here but I think some Muslims gathered together to celebrate it, cos the last ten years or so in particular has created so much misconception towards that. |

05.06.11 | "The fact that they won't show any evidence to the public is bullshit."
No, it isn't. You have any idea of the anger (rightly or wrongly, it DOESN'T MATTER) that holding him up as a trophy would cause in certain parts of the world? And the possible consequences of such anger? But who fucking cares, right? Because the important bit is that the West gets to gloat about it. I have literally no idea what the point of claiming it would be were it not true, unless you claim it as a cynical appeal to patriotism. I think Obama is considerably more astute than that.
In any case it makes me fucking laugh that people are coming out and saying they can't see any reason why pictures of the dead body of an idol for terrorists haven't been published. You have to be seriously retarded not to realise the diplomatic intricacies involved stretch much further than "AMERICA, WOO!" So fucking naive. |
Chrisjon89
05.06.11 | "Do you have any idea what kind of terrorist activity they could instigate by showing that?"
I agree and I don't want to see that stuff anyway. I also agree that it would definitely incite more anger from terrorists, but I'd use different reasoning than you (and Obama said the same thing). Surely the death of this guy is motivation enough for them to do something. |

Also, even if they release a photo, the conspiracy types will say it's been photoshopped etc. or that you can't tell it's him...i'm sure there's enough pictures taken from the Iraq War/Afghanistan of guys dressed in similar attire to Bin Laden, with their heads blown open, that people would still claim it wasn't him.
