Well, the thing is, the Kings are like 4rd in their conference right now, so the better the team is doing, the more the teams are going to be praised, obviously. Tampa Bay won the championship a few years ago and hockey has become popular there, along with Pittsburgh, Carolina and now, Chicago. |

I can't really take the entire country into account when I say that, but I live in his home Province, so Pittsburgh is pretty much 5 times more popular than Toronto or Montreal.

Enotron
03.01.10 | Hey look, I cite what Fox News says about Canada as fact. What is it about life in Canada that is so "mediocre"? Perhaps its the less amount of bills they have to put up with there. Or perhaps its the fact that college and healthcare is free? That must really suck.
The majority of 1st world nations by this point have single payer healthcare systems. France has Universal healthcare, and they have what is considered to be the best healthcare system in the world. The quality of life there in general is great.
Perhaps if the US wasn't so tradition based, we could progress a bit. |
willfellmarsy
03.01.10 | and where do all the doctors with real ability go? Athletes? Singers? Actors? Etc. free healthcare and college makes people never take a risk, always get by and stagnate...it makes life easy, basically it's the way a pussy wants to live, without effort... |
Enotron
03.01.10 | Well according to your standards then, poor people don't deserve to go to college and they don't deserve healthcare. Basically you want nothing to be socialized, no taxes, right? So would you enjoy giving your atm number every time you called 911? Or maybe you would enjoy having to pay for education, kindergarden all the way to your senior year in high school. Or maybe there should be an insurance business for driving on the highway as well.....highways are socialized as well right? And I guess when you're older you'll refuse your social security checks?
So if you think somebody's a pussy for not wanting to pay thousands of dollars for breaking an arm or getting cancer, than you have an odd definition of the word pussy. |
Enotron
03.01.10 | "The Canadian health care system has a great reputation, but this is a very specialized piece of surgery that had to be done and I went to somebody who's doing this three or four times a day, five, six days a week."
A) That's not the prime minister
B) In Canada you can choose your doctor. This system there is fine, the man just wanted to find the most professional person there is, and the fact that the doctor was American was merely a coincidence. In Canada they have a single payer system; the government insures healthcare, but the doctors do not have to consult with the government and they run their own practice. The doctors in Canada go through all the same process as Americans do to become a doctor, they are no more, no less qualified. |

willfellmarsy
03.02.10 | enotron...how many important people in the world today (including famous canadians) make their money in Canada? Stay in Canada...very few...and where do the true dreamers, geniuses, talented people head?
those who work hard in America get scholarships for their efforts...it means something to graduate from an american college while in Canada anyone can go...my education from kindergarden to 8th grade was paid for. why? because to get the best you need to pay...i would have paid for high school had not, through my own merits and effort, I been awarded a full scholarship...who put in the money for that scholarship? Someone who paid to attend the high school i went to, who did not settle for a mediocre public school, and who sought to bring those who worked hard from a young age to their school...
To be great, one must know poverty and strive out of it...a canadian never faces the trials of poverty, so most are mediocre and the ones that aren't go to America
You can pick a doctor in Canada, but that does not change the fact that the best doctors come from countries in which they had to work extremely hard to get that education, paid through effort to achieve fruits and now are at the top...socialism is for those who do not wish to be anything but average...
A canadian doctor does not go through the same thing as an American doctor because their education is freely given and they do not know desperation or risk |
Enotron
03.02.10 | Well that's a nice little speech, but education in America, except for college, is socialized.
In a mixed economy, which is what Canada has, everybody is offered an equal oppurtunity regardless of their economic status, and what you make of that oppurtunity determines how succesful you are.
Your argument based on how decent the doctors are makes no sense. If somebody succesfully goes through medical school, aces the courses, then they will be a proficient doctor. My dad had to pay off his college debts for years and he did get a scholarship, scholarships only fully cover everything if you literally do perfect in high school, and if you except all the lower class to exceed over the average standards for those richer than them, you're morals are mixed up.
Well we clearly have different views on these things. This is all I have left to say; healthcare is a human right and money should be the last thing in mind when it comes to it. |
